I stayed in Drøbak in 2009 to visit my cousin Randi who lives there, so I am quite familiar with this town... Oddly enough, I met Rick Steeves on Christmas Eve at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood, WA as he was doing the reading. We had a nice discussion about filming this episode :-)

This part is my favorite moment in Rick Steve's European Christmas Special. There is nothing more beautiful than these young, talented girls! The hymn "Long Ago Prophets Knew" with the harp accompaniment and candle-lit atmosphere is divine. The perfect presentation of the coming of Christmas! Thank you, Rick.

He says "julenisse", not "jule nisse". If a word sounds compound when you pronouncing the word, it should be written together. If there are abbreviations, proper names or numbers in the word, hyphens should be used. This was a short lesson in Norwegian!

growing up, our mom used to bake a special Greek bread with a quarter hidden in it every Christmas. Person who found it was supposed to have good luck in the New Year. But unfortunately in our ultra competive family, it usually meant fist fights, broken furniture and the freshly baked bread rendered into bread crumbs, that our mom threw outside for the birds to eat. LOL!!! GOOD TIMES

Yes, would please tell me the name of the song the Girl's Choir was singing at the end of the clip. It was abosolutely amazing. They had voices as Angels would sing. Completely breathtaking and phenominal... Also may I add that every clip I see In relation to Norway there is always a sense of great national pride, and for a lack of better word they seem very folkish or very much steeped in their tradition. I'm blown away. I hope to visit this beautifal country someday...

I know no families that hang up mistletoe. If someone does, it's probably something they learned from watching American sitcoms... and the Christmas tree is not a pagan remnant, silly, it's a fairly new tradition (from Germany in the 1850, like most of our Christmas tradition). But the hidden almond is real.
