I’ll take it from here, LC. Tim, we care about you. I grew up originally in Chicago before moving to St Louis; I get it, believe me. I’m familiar with people that are so upset that they confuse their anger over Gretzky destroying their team that they act like he’s not the best player of all time. It’s a process. The first step is to say “Bobby Orr is the greatest defenseman of all time, and Wayne is the greatest forward of all time.” Those are both true statements. First step in your recovery.

Step 2 (when you’re ready Tim; only you can know when that is)…watch every game of the 87 Canada Cup final, but really watch it and study every goal. Then watch the documentary about it. You’ll see peak Lemieux and Gretzky, and Tocchet, et al (who along w Propp/Hawerchuk was absolutely vital to this win) and the 50+ line combos that Keenan used…but you’ll realize that in addition to Gretzky playing over 50 minutes and the greatest single game a hockey player has ever played in game 2, he also was the only guy on the planet who could filter out and buffer Mike Keenan’s influence and make it a positive thing…and make everyone go along with it and buy in, and get Lemieux all those goals, and get everyone’s absolute literal career best performance…because Wayne was that good. That Russian side was maybe their best ever..no Kharlamov, Tretiak…but collectively maybe one of their best. And that was the highest level of competitive ice hockey ever played. And Wayne led his country to a victory
