De kerk in Dwingel(oo) heet ook wel 'de siepel'. Het is Drents voor ui. [Etymologisch van: 'ciboule' in Oudfrans] Je zou dat in de captions kunnen zetten.. Overigens, zeer goed gedaan! Bedankt dat je het voor het nageslacht vastgelegd hebt.

This clear picture shows me that people 100 years ago used to work hard industriously, love each other and enjoy life as we`re doing today. Actually, nothing has changed in our human nature for the last 100 years.

het blijft tijdreizen , je stapt letterlijk in een totaal andere wereld . Mooi om te zien hoe het was in 1924. De mensen moesten heel hard werken voor weinig geld. Er was ook niet of nauwelijks bescherming voor de werkmensen. Mijn moeder was hier net 1 jaar oud . Heel interessant om dit te kunnen bekijken . bedankt weer voor deze mooie video

Het werkte juist met een rangen- en standen systeem. Een jonge man kon leerling worden bij een vakman, da, als hij goed genoeg was werd hij gezel. (een vrijgezel is een vakman zonder meester) Daarna deed hij een meesterproef of maakte een meesterstuk en als dat goed was werd hij zelf meester. Vakmensen werden gewaardeerd om wat ze konden. Tegenwoordig word er op ze neergekeken door de 'hoogopgeleide nederlanders" die alleen maar elkaar napraten en het hele land kapot hebbengemaakt met hun arrogantie en hoogmoedswaanzin. Ik heb tien keer meer respect voor een vakman dan voor een nederlandse professor in vrijetijdskunde of politieke wetenschappen. De Meestertitel is beschermd, terwijl elke idioot zichzelf professor kan noemen, de titel betekent niets.

People in Drente and overall in the Netherlands were extremely poor at that time. There was a huge gap between poor and rich.

De ouderdom tussen 1850 en 1940 varieert heel erg. Naast de grote kindersterfte, sterfte bij geboortes, is een groep die niet ouder dan ongeveer 50 wordt. Maar er zijn er ook die de 80-90 halen, en die tot op hoge leeftijd lichamelijke werkzaam waren.

It's strange. When watching people in videos from the long gone past you kind of expect them to be different in some way to todays people and yet when you look at them, they don't look any different. Different clothes and mannerisms but just like us today

A beautiful educational film, and the class difference is very visible. The gentlemen/peat bosses and the (peat) workers and the sod huts. My ancestors also lived and worked like this, pure poverty. They were modern slaves. I can also get very annoyed when people talk about white privilege. These people don't know history. But we didn't get caught up in the victim role, hard work and wealth sharing helped us out.

On the contrary! This was a period in which many people were unemployed (world wide). The people you see working on the preparation of land for new housing were most likely employed under a government scheme to help those who were on the dole ("werkverschaffing").

Opzoek naar historisch filmmateriaal van Dedemsvaart (Overijssel), kwam ik hier terecht. Hoewel mooie opnames van de DSM - stoomtram - zijn deze beelden niet in Dedemsvaart gemaakt. Erger nog; evenmin van andere plaatsen aan de Dedemsvaart. Kortom deze dienen volledig ergens anders gesitueerd te worden. Jammer; hoewel gebruik van deze beelden evenmin mogelijk is hadden we er toch niets aan. 👏

I wonder why the Dutch chose wood for shoes (clogs) instead of leather? Making them was an art in itself, using only simple hand tools. No doubt there are still a few people producing them for souvenirs or folk traditionalists, but maybe using some modern electrical tools.

@@kulturfreund6631 Actualy the word "Duytschen" in "Ben ick van Duytschen Bloedt" comes from Dietschen or Duitschen bloed which meant 'Nederlands' or 'Dutch', this originated from the 16th and 17th century and comes from the word 'Diut'. It's not großdeutsch but Groot Nederlands (Belgium, Luxemburg and Holland ). In Flandria, the sixth stranza of the Wilhelmus Anthem is stil played and sung at many cantus, the iron pilgrimage and anual Flemish singingfestival.
