I'm loving your channel and forwarding to friends. I was struck by the graffiti, kind of demonic looking down in the industrial area..

Thank you so much for sharing this dream time image. How much better the river looked without all those plastic Gin palaces and boring long narrow boats. Let’s take back the river.

The scenery and ambience could be straight out of "Three Men in a Boat." (No 'slight disaster' at the lock, though). Thanks for posting these time-capsule gems.

04:15 Those boats are still in use in Oxford, the Salters Steamers, but they've been refitted to diesel. Do take a trip on them if you're ever in Oxford.

Thank you for sharing this. This was about the time when my Grandparents would have been courting on that part of the Thames. Wonderful to think I'd be sharing some of the things that they would have seen there.

Thanks for that, I enjoyed it. Brought back many fond memories of the time I lived in Hampton village and would relax on a Saturday night in one of the pubs in Church Square, Shepperton. That was 50 years ago though, not 97! Shame the film captions were almost lost.

This film differs from your lovely footage of street scenes which I love, in that the scenes portrayed are such that can be still enjoyed today. City and town scenes from this period show how life has changed so much with the horse drawn and motor vehicles, how people dressed, and seeing buildings that maybe no longer exist. It's so nice to be able to see these old films, and to take a break to look at a time gone by.

What amazes me is not how much has changed, but how little. If there is such a thing as "Human Nature", it seems to be impervious to technological innovation. The more things change, the more we stay the same!

Another stunning video, thank you. My manor, cycle those river paths most days. Beautiful musical score sends you into a whimsical mood. Shame they didn’t capture D’oyly Carte Island. NB That’s being beautifully restored by new owners, with riverside garden cafe open in the summer. 🫖🍰☀️

Another fantastic video. The colour and stabilisation really bring these old films to life. 👍 I’m wondering why you removed/edited out the title cards explaining the various scenes, or were they missing in the original.? Occasionally part of a card can just be seen for an instant.

Is "Weybridge Lock" misnamed or was it removed when they built Desborough Cut? The only lock I can think of other than Shepperton Lock near/in Weybridge is where the Wey joins the Thames but it's much smaller than the one shown on the film and wouldn't make any sense given where the boat is going.

@@Rick88888888 Interesting, I'm guessing it's actually Shepperton lock and should be at the end of the film but Mr Wilcox decided to take some artistic licence and moved it forwards in the journey so he could end on D'Oyly Island... which is a bit more picturesque.
