I thought for sure there would be a second wave of real estate crash but I was wrong not that we are not still do for a correction how ever I definitely missed out on a lot of gains waiting for another crash... very frustrating.

Real stuff you can get for gold is fairly stable. It's the DOLLAR that goes up and down. So gold cost $25 per oz (in dollars obviously) in 1932, $205 in 1999 and $1241 (today) in 2016. What does this tell you about the devaluation of the dollar over time relative to gold? Ever see those old restaurant menus or ads in old newspapers? Everything else costs more (way more) in dollars now and cost in dollars has risen every decade. In 1913, the value of a dollar was 100 real copper cents, now it is somewhere around 2.5 cents. Is the pattern clear?? Manipulation can cause temporary effects in precious metals, but over decades you see what has the real staying power. What happened to that 97.5 cents lost in value of the dollar? Ultimately, it enriched the banksters along with the gold that was supposed to back the dollar.

At 31:10, the analyst guy was probably looking at the late 1999 spike in gold from $253 to around $330-ish on the Central Bank Gold Agreement. The price retraced and went back to $255 by start of 2001. So, early 2001 was a better trade but 1999 was still a great trade, when holding until 2011.

I was wondering how one could calculate the "real" value of gold. Most countries calculate a cost-of-living index by defining a standard basket of goods and services and tracking how much the basket costs in their national currencies. If the values of all these national baskets were converted from the various national currencies into gold, then we used a GDP-weighted average of all national baskets, we could calculate a global "basket" of goods and services, and how much it's worth in gold. The inverse would be the real value of gold. Has anyone ever done this exercise?

Many upon many corrupt officials around the world have a lot of physical gold hidden in their real estate properties. Is 1oz of gold going up to 10000$ or is the US$ crashing down to 10000$ to 1oz of gold? To get the real value of gold we have to compare it with a lot of other assets (more than comparing gold with the US$).

This is a NUGGET, but I disagree a little here and there. F.e. the amount you should have: "10% - 20% ... it's like fire insurance" No it's not! 1999 maybe, but today the house is already on fire. I exchanged all stuff that can catch fire into no burning stuff. And I think of it as my retirement fund. It might not grow, but it will be there, when I'll need it. Because not only the houses will burn down, the insurances, funds, promises...all will be ashes no more.

Because gold is money and is a capital commodity and therefore only goes up relative to the Federal Reserve’s bank notes which are bank notes of debt purchasing power is subjective and based on the public’s confidence in the paper debt notes. Bank notes are debt but since they currently have perceived value you use them to invest in capital assets to obtain a yield. That’s why you would not put 100% of your money in one capital commodity.

@pavlepavlovic I think its you that doesn’t understand. Only fools buy paper silver and gold. Smart investors buy physical gold and silver. The reason the price hasn’t gone up is a number of reasons, gold is and always has been cyclical, money is going to other investments currently, people are easily distracted, bitcoin, high yields etc. Give a bit more time learning macro economics and the history of economics and you will understand. While you learn, I will continue to get richer.

Not necessarily. We really have no precedent to what we are dealing with. The possibility exists that a large share of the RIDICULOUS amount of debt based/ electronic currency that exists will "revalue" real monetary items one way or another. Gold is money and most of the people have forgotten this.....for now.

+gg True, but it takes time, energy and labor to extract/refine it. When one is immediate need of money there is not much time to spare. When there is time and labor energy cost is high. When there is time and energy is affordable there are labor disputes. If you have (fine deliverable) gold and sell it just for the sake of selling it you will probably live to regret it.

By the way to answer that one guy's question that Jim never answered: "why is gold a good trade against fiat" if one counts gold to be money... well to answer that one must first understand what is money and how gold acquired its monetary value... Well in the free market gold proved to be the commodity with the least declining marginal utility meaning that one could hoard gold and trade it for other things. In other words gold was the most widely accepted good in exchange for other goods, and thus gold acquired its ability to serve as a medium of exchange on the free market. Now money is first and foremost defined as a medium of exchange, followed by a store of value. Well fiat money acquired its ability to serve as a medium of exchange due to compulsory government 'legal tender' laws , making the government (central bank) printed fiat money used for medium of exchange. Furthermore, since you could only pay your taxes to the government in the "legal tender"government (central bank) money cut of gold as an alternative means of money that could challenge government fiat in circulation if the government was to allow for debts to be repaid in gold. So gold is a good trade against fiat, because the fiat currencies will collapse due to the debt and a loss of trust , considering that fiat money is created by the means of debt monetization, so in other words each new dollar, euro , yuan etc.. created means another dollar, euro, yuan.. etc in debt. Plus you have to repay that debt with interest, meaning there is always more debt out there than there is 'fiat' money, (also if you take into consideration the shadow banking system with rehypothicated assets and derivatives which are highly deflationary in a debt collapse as they all represent debt without any depository banking). So in order to keep this fiat economy going the government (central banks) are always in need of expanding the money supply, and since you can't mathematically repay it this whole system is essentially one big ponzi scheme that will collapse eventually and the trigger could be any number of things for example: gold backwardation (gold futures is trading less than spot physical gold, so you can sell spot, buy on the futures market and get your gold back plus a risk free profit, and the fact that this is not occurring means that investors are losing faith and would rather pay more for gold now, than gold promised to be delivered in the future, otherwise arbitrage should never allow gold backwardation to happen for long), banking sector collapse, derivative catastrophe... etc) So this is why if you gold is money (even now gold backwardation assumes that gold is still viewed as money, or a bet against fiat) and thus gold is a good trade versus fiat...unless you believe that our debts can be repaid and are no problem than buy fiat and bet against gold, otherwise bet gold to be the reserve money against fiat sometime in the future and buy gold P.S. I wish Jim would have mentioned something on silver, like I would like to know what is the true silver to gold supply right now? and what are the chances of bimetallism where silver can trade freely against gold as money versus a pure gold standard?

I have followed Jim Rickards for years and read all his books. If he really believes that gold is going to $10,000, why not put 100% into it. The answer is obvious. He is peddling investment advice to make a lot of money and covering his ass if he is wrong. Actually, he doesn't have a clue where the price of gold is really going, nor does anyone else.

US$10,000 is too low in 2016, US$300,000 per ounce more like it. Baha'i Faith has a link to demography where single males pay to the wife a silver dowry for rural dewellers and gold dowry (or promissory note) for city dwellers. It will force young single males out of the city to marry. Read the reference to gold and silver and look at the demographic implications in the book kitab-iA-qdas
