@@gfriedman99 yes, go see a good cardiologist and get an ultrasound. getting tired and breathless doing simple things might suggest a more advanced mitral valve issue, but clearly i'm no doctor and it could be many things. i have a leaky mitral valve, in my mid50s, but it's "mild", and i don't have those fatigue issues. apparently, sometimes a person can go a long time without knowing it or having many symptoms. they discovered mine on a ultrasound, but it was so faint to catch via stethoscope that no one including cardiologists and primary care doctors prior to that for many years had ever noticed it. luckily, it's repairable...

Similar. apparently very fit, a week shy of 65th birthday, massive heart attack with three resuscitations in April 2020. Genetic. Not Covid jab. My core fitness from a life of quite intense aerobic exercise enabled me to survive as I could stay calm, cooperate with ambulance team and surgeon, and then recover back to fitness. We're in SE London so free at point of need NHS with ambulance station just 2 minutes away and world class Cardiac unit in top teaching hospital about15 minutes away. Being Covid lockdown, rehab group was online - we were all exercise buffs with one a professional fitness coach. Mine was a single blockage, not hardening of arteries - more like a child's toy stuck down lavatory drain rather than hard water furring up the pipes. On diet. From late 1970s, I'd bought into the high carbs of high quality, low fat, and plenty of salad and cooked veg. Post HA, I went pre-diabetic and felt deeply ashamed of it. I went to bookshops, found a shelf about nutrition and health, bought Michael Mosley, 'The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet' and associated recipe book plus a couple of similar books. We followed the menus. Delicious. Small portions were fully satisfying. Lost all my surplus fat and got to ideal BMI. Turns out it's the carbs that get converted into fat and insulin resistance is the big disease of our time. Eating very little fat had also led to relatively minor but still extremely unpleasant gall gravel - eat no fat, bile not release from gall bladder, bile crystalises till released as stones or gravel into the bile duct. Now I do eat full fat (in moderation) and lots of olive oil so the bile moves and 25 years of gall gravel largely eliminated. Now, I'm fitter than ever. I added 5 to 10 press-ups on the hour a few times a day along with holding kettle weights over my head in the morning. Result is I can now work overhead, eg painting ceiling, screwing in light fittings, etc, that I found difficult for most of my life, no matter how strong and flexible I was in other movements. Now age 69

You were in great hands, my friend. My wife had the exact same surgery with the exact same surgeon almost exactly one year ago. Dr. Gillinov and the Cleveland Clinic are fantastic! Best wishes for a full recovery with no surprises! Now go crush that cardiac rehab.

Rick, welcome to the mitral valve repair club. Glad the surgery went well and you’re on the recovery road. I had my mitral valve repaired in 2019 to fix the same type of issue. The surgeon did a nonrobotic minimally invasive repair. Keep on truckin’. We live in an amazing time for medical technology and guitar. Love your channel 💔+👩‍⚕️= ❤🎸

Dear Rick, Congratulations. You will never know how much your channel, the teaching videos with whiteboard, and recent interviews have spring-boarded me toward a life-long passionate journey of learning piano and guitar, for deeper pursuit of a "me"-directed personal, emotive sound. I really appreciate the personal touch of sharing yourself and the stories of your dad, your brother, your college professor days, and studio/band beginnings. All of the work you have put in to teaching and training, and inspiring us. Take care of yourself. From another middle-aged teacher, Jonathan.

Rick, as someone who has had three minor (compared to yours and others) heart procedures, in my opinion what we can do as humans is relate our stories to others that might not be understanding the severity of their conditions. I had 100% blockage of “the widowmaker”, mind you I was still riding my bike 16 miles, surfing and playing downtuned stoner metal. When my first heart attack happened, I drove myself to the hospital. I had never been hospitalized in my life. I had amazing doctors and hospital staff and I writing this today because of them. You have shared your passion for music with us and we as a community have gotten to know you. Thank you for all that you do, both musically and otherwise. You are by all accounts an amazing human being! Love and respect, Bill Bensen

The progress in heart surgery has been a real success story. Cleveland Clinic has been the leading light. This is not what we would have see thirty years ago when I was still in that business. For those who hate western medicine I can only say: I hope you'll never need it. Glad to see you back, Rick!

Everyone relies on western medicine, even people in the 3rd world, The only area of western medicine that is not great is mental health, but only because people expect a magic pill to make them happy. Well, they do have pills that make you happy, problem is, they are addictive and can cause other problems.

Rick, glad you went to The CLE for treatment. Best hospital in the world, especially for heart. As for your channel, I love everything you do, but your interviews are worthy of a place in the Smithsonian. Your interviews with stars, session players, producers and all others involved in the music world have provided a valuable history of Rock and Roll and other musical art forms (blues, soul) through the lens of the people who were there. Not many interviewers can do this with as much intelligence and background knowledge as you. The musicians talk to you like you are one of them, because you ARE one of them. Keep doing those! Every interview is a gift!

I posted this on your last video as well, but I'm here in Utah and I send my mitral repair patients to Cleveland Clinic. Good choice! Dr Gillinov is amazing. He has actually called me on my personal phone late at night once to give an update on a patient that I sent to him that I didn't even remember was there! That's going beyond. Keep on keepin' on!

Rick, Today, I have had about enough of watching your videos and NOT fully supporting you. I am so grateful you are well and on the mend. I dont have time to learn much these days, but I have loved every video i have ever watched by you for 2 years, when my drummer turned me on to a tool video you did. Thank you for both your channels and the 3 marvellous references I just got from your Beato Bundle - great deal! You are a comfort to this wildfire ridden Canadian from the Sub-arctic - among my peers you are a household name and deeply respected by every musician I know. I cant wait for some spare time this winter to deep learn from your great resources. Keep up the invaluable work, you are on my big and small screens every day. I just wanted to thank you and let you know just how far north you are loved. Franco

Rick… what you do is to explain and draw attention to all aspects of music is awesome. I was a teen in the ‘60s, now 75. I grew up loving the rock of the 70-90’s. But you share and dig into the old stuff. So glad you are feeling well and look forward to many more years of watching and listening to your channel. Be blessed.
