Tuning = A D G C E A (low to high) Like a capo at the 5th fret THEN lower the top two strings (E and A) by an octave. The precise notes are A2 (110 Hz), D3 (147 Hz), G3 (196 Hz), C4 (262 Hz), E3 (165 Hz), A3 (220 Hz). The goal is to play chords with the notes spaced more closely together.

I can imagine guitarists having heard Frank play some of those things and then driving themselves INSANE trying to recreate it on a standard-tuned guitar and not realizing why they can't play like Frank.

Here's what's weird about Frank Gambale. You hear him play, and his soloing is ferocious, daring, and fearless. And you imagine this guy that is all of those things, and then you see him in interviews, and he's the nicest, most laid back guy in the world. Honestly and truly, he has an 'amateur guitar player' personality: humble, friendly, and helpful, like guys that can't be proud of their playing because they're not that good. Except he's one of the greatest players on the planet. That's the thing.
@hazardeur10 ай бұрын
nope, that's not weird at all. usually, the better you become at something, the more you realize how little you actually know.

I love Nashville tuning! Give it a try in double drop D... it's insane. Opens up all kinds of inspiration.

I’ve done it for real, and used a Variax p(line 6) to use that tuning, and man it can be so inspiring to play around with especially chording onstage with a band. I gotta get some light strings and do this again! ❤🎉

Listen to the album Eli by Jan Akkerman& Kaz Lux from 1976, Akkerman used these kind of tunings 50 years ago. Ahead of it’s time! It wouldn’t surprise me if Gambale knows that album. After Jan hit worldfame with Focus a lot of the LA guitarguys studied HIM very carefully…

After I saw a clip of Frank explaining the tuning (and playing some of those stunningly beautiful chord voicings), I took an old acoustic and my 'student loaner' Fender Squire electric and strung them up with Gambale Tuning. They are now INVALUABLE songwriting tools!
