I think what Mo’Nique said was from a place of love and I absolutely agree with her. We shouldn’t criticize her for trying to help others. Here’s the video I’m talking about: bit.ly/34zFsWG

The whole problem with this newer generation of blacks is that they can 't even RECOGNIZE when an elder gives excellent advice from a place of LOVE. Everything today is labeled a judgement so that people do not have to be held accountable for poor or even immoral actions.

I had a friend that was going to wear clothes that you would wear to a night club to a job interview, I, out of love and friendship told her it would not be appropriate and suggested a white blouse with black or blue pants, she told me it was her interview and she could wear what she wanted, only after her own sister told her the same advice that I gave her did she realize I was right, sometimes it is not the school system that failed you but your own rebellious attitude. A bonnet is for sleeping and it looks terrible to walk out the house that way along with house shoes and pajamas pants. I am 52 years old and was taught to look apart when you go out. Monique said what Big MaMa, Granma, Aunties, Papas, Grandaddy used to say when we had a village. This is when we respected our elders and actually listened to their wise words. The world can change, but we shouldn’t let it change our Foundations! Our village more than any is very much needed. I believe in minding my business, but not to the extent where someone can be hurt physically, spiritually, emotionally and economically. I have been standing with Monique and will continue to do so. I don’t agree with everything she says, but I respect her just the same! I LOVE YOU MONIQUE! We all need constructive criticism.

Perhaps this is someone’s first time hearing this message that “we” were taught. My first year teaching, I had a beautiful black baby in my 2nd grade class. His skin was everything with a smile to match. He was soooo bad! I would get onto him hourly for disrupting class and fighting. One day I decided to get eye level with him and talk to him like a grown up, questioning him and etc. I asked several questions. But the simplest question I asked was, “Do you know right from wrong?” He answered honestly and said, “No.” Digging deeper, I learned that his parents weren’t much older than he was. Digging even deeper, I learned that he had two loving grandmothers. This is where my real expertise came in because I was a grandmother’s baby. I took a chance and called both grandmothers. We sat at the kidney table, me sitting across he and his two grandmothers on each side of him. We talked, prayed, cried, hugged, made a plan and then had another meeting with his parents. Yes, I had to fail him, but on the last day of school, he thanked me like a little man who had gained a foundation of what is right and wrong. You have to meet people where they are. The Bible says the elders should teach the young women. Monique used her platform like she was supposed to. It’s up to each individual to accept or deny her words of wisdom. If you’re given an opportunity to help one person, do so. Love and courage speaks truth regardless of the backlash; being a coward is a sin too. Perhaps, Monique helped one sheep find her way because no one took the time to show her.

I was at the park the other day and it was three young sister's talking loud who were carrying on as if they were intentionally trying to bring attention to themselves. They had a right to reject her. Do you see how she looks on het video. If the topic here that we are discussing is about having pride, then let's begin with her Whew! @dreamomma
@dreamomma 3 жыл бұрын
@Roseline Gibson I feel you, and I agree to a certain extent. Love can also be correction, when you have a persons best interests at heart. An elder who only considers your feelings, will sometimes miss the opportunity to impart wisdom because they are too afraid to hurt your feelings. However, the words of wisdom they are sharing may be something you need to hear. It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. I didn’t hear her belittle, or talk down about anyone. That would have been wrong. She was just saying the same thing older women said back in the day, which is take pride in your appearance when you leave the house. It does not make you a bad person to wear a bonnet or scarf out the house, but it will impact how people view, and treat you. It may not be fair, but we are judged by our appearance. If you want to be taken seriously, you have to present that way. She just kept it real, and I don’t believe she would have said it if she didn’t care. Programs and stuff like that cost money, but you can share wisdom for free. Jmo

Didn't say I agreed. All I said was, I want to see the interview, and I still stand by my previous statement. What kind of world would we live in if we all thought and had the same opinion about everything. It would make for a pretty dull world and the opportunity for self improvement wouldn't be necessary. Given the fact that we live in such a judgmental Society, and we are often judged by the first impression that we make, I don't think is wrong that we at the very least we consider how we look when we walk outside our front door. Keep in mind that I said we. That doesn't only go for women, but for men as well.
