Let's talk about how to build a simple marketing website to bring your business idea or product idea to life. This is step one of three from my recent video on how to test a business idea. The goal here is to bring your product, service, or business concept to life using a simple website to start refining the messaging. This will help you not only get more clear on the concept itself, but will also help you improve your ability to communicate about the idea with potential customers.

Very good stuff. Everyone who has a product idea should first do this before going balls deep. I would go a step further by creating a more "real" flow to get the real buyers intent. 70% of people that click "try" or" buy" or "add to cart" wont buy anyway. A better way to test is Product -> add to cart/buy/sign up -> checkout (enter information name, email address) -> and when they select their preferred payment method (paypal/CC/COD) (don't ask for cc details obviously) redirect to a page that says "sorry this product ran out of stock" "sorry this service is currently unavailable". You have their email so you can always email them when you actually start selling it

Yes, it's great to collect contact details so you can follow-up if/when the product is available... and, as you pointed out, to further confirm their sincere interest in buying.

Hi Rick, great advice! Could you cover in more detail (or send me to relevant resource) how to judge product validation after launching the website based on metrics and what tool do you recommend for this (you've mentioned fb and google ads? what conversion rates , if at all, would you expect at this stage from paid ads?)

It's highly dependent on the product type, your margins, and the conversion rates you need to make the venture profitable. Just know that generally, you can improve conversion rates and margins over time with further optimization, so the main thing you are trying to determine is if there is real potential (people are interested, at least some are ready to buy, etc.).

Love the simplicity of this! You think you could also email people who submit their email on the "unavailable" page to figure out how to improve the concept?

Yes, I think it’s useful to ask things like “what was most/least attractive about the product?”, etc.

Hi Rick, how would you track the # of people that click on your button given Wix/SS's limited analytics?

One solution would be to use a bit.ly link on the button that then redirects to the real url, and then see how many times the bit.ly link was clicked using their built-in analytics.
