Don and Derek Rickman were my heros as a lad . My dad was a member of XHG club and we used to folow them round the various scramble meetings

The whole family went Sunday scrambling in the early 60s Westbury sub Mendip, Leighton near Frome .The Rickmans Jeff Smith Dave Bickers were our heros .

How old is Sammy? Press-ups? What a man! I met him once at a funeral I was taking, and he invited me to the museum, told me he’d show me round in person.. I’ve never made it down there, but it’s on the list. To have his attention for a guided tour would be magic!

I had a 1971 Rickman Zundapp 125 MX back in 1976 when I was 13yo. Got two basket cases and rebuilt one out of parts. Ball shift transmission very odd like Hodaka. I wish I still had that bike . Cheers

When i was a kid of 10 I got Don and Dereks autographs at a scramble at Leighton near Frome .They were so nice I think Don won the main race Ivor England and Derek came 2nd and third i think , although Brian Goss and Jeff Smith might have been somwhere all on what i thought was the most beautiful machine of its day the Rickman Metisse .

We had a bike dealership in the early through late 70s that sold Rickmans, Pentons, Yankees, and Ossa. It was a cool shop to go into for a young teenager. The Rickmans were such eye candy.

55 now never got the car license so bikes almost everyday never seen the need to own a car. I really like Rickman stuff have a steel gas tank I widened by 2" or so and the sides remained intact/in shape after tig welding tough steel. 5 gallons or so now for 69 BSA roadbike.

Metisse ~ meaning 'Mongrel' in French

It's not exact. Mongrel is translated by corniaud or bâtard, words about dogs of unknown or mixed races, in fact animals. The word can be extremely offensive if used about a human. Métisse, feminine of métis in French means human of mixed origins, for example European and African. It's also used about cultures. Métis and métisse means also cloth made with cotton and linen. It's probably the last meaning which prevails, as the word metisse (and e is used instead of é) was used in English for the cloth. So it's a mix.
