Rickmansworth 1962/3

Moving film of the first supermarket in the town called the Premier Supermarket, now its the Pennsylvanian Pub. Donated to the Three Rivers Museum by Robert Holland son of the last landlord of the Swan Hotel later to be demolished and replaced by the Post Office building in the High Street. The winter of 1963 had lots of snow with tobogganing behind the Swan and Ricky Park. Last section is a school sports day on Scotsbridge playing fields, very well attended probably by a group of schools. Were you there?

I was 5 in 1963 even though the snow was higher then i was, i still had to walk to school and go outside at breaktime

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I lived in Rickmansworth, as a child, at this very time and this video has brought back so many wonderful memories. At the time we lived in Loudwater from 1962 to 1965, then moving to Chalfont for three years, finally returning to Croxley Green in 1968 for three years, before moving to London. I was frequently in the town with my parents and I remember the winter of 63. I so wish I could turn the clock back to what was a very happy time. It's brought me a lot of joy seeing the shops, buildings, Swan Hotel, vehicles and other such familiar sights and it's rekindled personal memories of events and daily things we did and experienced. Thank you!

I was born and brought up in Rickmansworth through the 50's and moved to Somerset in '76 and then to Australia in 1985. Thank you so much for posting this video it has brought back so many memories for both my wife and I. I worked at Mick's Fruiterers in the video after school and on Saturdays. Great times.

WoW! Just came across this. I grew up in Ricky and well remember the winter of 1963. Moved to Australia in 1974, been back to Ricky many times - but what a _great_ flashback to those times. Thanks for keeping and posting this footage - and for the fine edit.

My older cousin worked at Frankins soft drinks factory at the end of the high street. She used to bring home staff price samples, Cola, lemonade, cherryade, etc
