My cousin worked at Universal in the 80s and 90s. He told me one of the original mechanical sharks used in the movie JAWS was just thrown behind a building on the lot. It had been there for over 15 years and was covered in leaf's and dirt. He pulled out one of the teeth and gave it to me for a souvenir. Most movies and tv shows throw away great stuff once there finished filming.

A few years ago a TV company built a fake elevator in the building where I worked . It had the sliding doors , the elevator panel , a removeable back to shoot people coming onto the elevator . They were just going to tear it down after the shoot but the company I worked for wanted it . We gave them some money, I think mainly to cover the cost of the elevator panel . A few years later we left the building and the place was destroyed to make room for a new building . I would guess it was just part of the rubble. If I had a playroom I would have loved to have moved it to my house. We used it as a two or three people lunch area and sometimes I would trick visitors into using the elevator to get to other floors.

My most favorite scenes involving the Gilliganmobile were 3 instances from the "Ring Around Gilligan" episode. First, was that ultra-serious look on Gilligan's face as he kept his eyes turned forward as he sat up straight & tall while driving his cart during the Fort Knox heist rehearsal. Second, during the epilogue, was how Mrs. Howell so kindly & graciously told Gilligan thank you while he was being a courteous gentleman & lend her a hand in climbing aboard in the back seat of his cart. And third, also during the epilogue, would be the expression on Mr. Howell's face & the way he reflexed upon watching Gilligan push down the lever to activate the taxi meter just before departing at that ultra-high Gilligan speed Three invaluable scenes in television history... By the way, if the historic Gilliganmobile prop did exist today, completely in tact, as it originally was, it's my opinion that it should be in the Smithsonian Institute. Exquisitely on display alongside Fonzie's Jacket & Archie Bunker's Chair!

That bamboo car was probably just a golf cart that was borrowed for the show. The bamboo siding was probably tied or taped to the golf cart and used for only a couple of minutes. Maybe only the side facing the camera was the only part to have the bamboo siding (tricks of the cameraman). The same footage of Gilligan driving his “bamboo car” was probably used repeatedly. The car was seen only a few times because the studio needed their golf cart back. The bamboo siding was disposed of immediately afterwards.

If you google that you will see that the b/w photos are stills of the two episodes it was shown. One where Lily is driven by an invisible chauffeur to a used car lot where she commissions building of the hot rod that well all know... I think the salesman was Don Rickels. The other Herman falls asleep in the back after retrieving Lily’s coat and the car is stolen by gangsters. @bradleeyoung70104 жыл бұрын
Four boats played the part of the SS Minnow. One was used in the opening credits and rented in Ala Wai Yacht Harbor in Honolulu. Another boat, the Bluejacket, was used in the opening credits shown during the second and third seasons and eventually turned up for sale on Vancouver Island in August 2006, after running aground on a reef in the Hecate Strait on the way south from Alaska. One boat was used for beach scenes after being towed to Kauai in Hawaii. The fourth Minnow was built on the CBS Studios set in the second season. The Minnow was named in reference to Newton Minow, chairman of the U.S. FCC, in response to Minow's landmark 1961 speech "Television and the Public Interest"; the speech lambasted television producers for producing, among other things, "formula comedies about totally unbelievable" characters (not unlike Gilligan's Island) and creating a "vast wasteland" of bad television.

Great vid as usual. My theory is this. We look at this kind of stuff as collectible. The producers etc regard these types of things, in many cases, as disposable props that get in the way. As such, they are simply disposed of without any fanfare at all.

back in the 60's tv and movie props werent collectables, nobody was collecting old tv junk props were just tossed in a pile and forgot about for years, the enterprise model was almost completely desroted till some one found it many years later, and im sure the studio spent way more on that then gilligans car, im sure after the show was cancelled and if it actually worked someone took it home and gave it to there kids and eventually threw it in the trash, however it sure would be cool to have it show up after all those years
