I thought it was a gpu from the thumbnail then realized it's a whole laptop when vid starts. Cool vid. I wanted to tear down and replace mine but old dell laptop is so difficult to get in. I'm not confident i can put it back tgt.

this was actually just a GPU The bottom half of a Surface Book 2 contains 1- GPU 2- 2nd Battery 3- Some I/O Ports 4- Keyboard / Trackpad

Is the usb c replaceable on these? Mine has stopped working and its the only port that supports external display

What thermal paste do you recommend for this SB2 laptop to dissipate heat well?
@salahadidi32732 жыл бұрын
you can use some dw40 to loosen up the old thermal paste

Just out of curiosity I have the same model but windows is not detecting the GTX 1050 not sure if it is something in the base or a software problems I even factory reset the entire surface book but nothing no fans and no detection

I would be leaning towards a faulty base unit

I have a doubt as I've been working for years with an electronics and repair laboratory, if the surface book 2 GTX 1050 GPU card can be attached to the surface book 1 base, if there's any adaptation for this my friend, just a question... the connectors are practically identical, I don't know if updating the firmware will recognize the most current gpu, you already do some test with this case ...., or does Microsoft have a secret policy for not this update....

no idea on cross generation bases being swapped

Hi, I have surface book 1 i5 8GB/128GB, When I insert the plug into the Charging Port, the white light comes on When I press the power button, the laptop does not turn on. I can't disconnect the screen from the keyboard either. When I press the Surface's Eject Button, the light turns red. When I press the power button and hold down the volume up button, after a dozen or so seconds, the red light from the Surface tablet's disconnect button lights up once. Dear colleagues, what is the reason why I can't turn on surface book1 ?

I disconnected the tablet itself from the surface book 1 keyboard. I plugged the charger into the bottom port of the tablet to try to charge it. I charged a few hours only the SB tablet 1 the top cover of the tablet was warm and unfortunately I can not start the tablet either. in that case, the battery in the keyboard is replaceable and the battery in the sb 1 tablet also needs to be replaced?

Hey mate I have a similar issue, wondering if you have any thoughts? on my SB2 the base has stopped working i.e keyboard, trackpad, GPU, USB are not detected/working. However the battery still charges when plugged in AND passes through the charge to the clipboard battery. Furthermore if I connect a surface dock to the base it doesnt detect the USB through the dock either. Strangely enough the detach button works (the only key command that works on the keyboard) and will detach the clipboard to the base... I have tried every fix possible including a system restore and have spoken to MS support who say its a hardware fault and it requires a replacement base. Im considering opening it up to see if something's loose. Any thoughts on the matter? I really dont want to pay the replacement cost lol!!

just little help : 1. check the connection between tablet and keyboard .... clean it up with pencil eraser / some electric contact cleaner this solve my problem (normal hardware) , but idk if your hardware damaged or not (btw mine is surface book 1) 2. Check your battery health at keyboard base , once i have SB 15 with gtx 1060 (and its GPU detected but not function) i replace its battery and everything working normal CMIIW :)

This is super delayed, but do you know if that heat sink was made out of copper or aluminum?
