'Derek' is the most delightful and beautifully poignant and funny and sad series I think I've ever seen. My mother died this week aged 91 after suffering Altzheimers for 13 years and I, foolishly perhaps, put this on, knowing what it was. I've laughed and cried and laughed and cried.......Ricky's portrayal of Derek is simply beautiful. As are all the rest of the characters. The observations are brilliant. Ricky Gervais is quite simply one of the best observational 'comedians' (I think more than a comedian in fact) of our time. Thanks for Derek and so much more

Typical preconceived ideas of how a person is by how they're narrow mindedly viewed. "What's his condition?" Because he's "different" there has to be something wrong with him? If there were more people in the world like Derek, the world would be a much better place
@truthpig10 жыл бұрын
Well said - why can't we just accept people the way they are ? (as long as they're not doing any harm) the world would be very boring if we were all exactly the same. As for breakfast TV presenters, they are absolute weirdos, nobody is that tidy or chirpy first thing, to me they're the freaks, not Derek.

A person can ofcourse have 100 conditions, I have epipepsy, colitis and sometimes depression. I've been binge-watching "Derek" since I have loved the other stuff Ricky has done that I have seen. It amazes me how he can bounce between fart jokes and existential crisis with characters so endearing you don't care that it gets schmaltzy. Having watched "After Life" before "Derek," I can see parallels, though "After Life" sort of hones what he did with "Derek." Brilliant stuff and very unique compared with what else is out there.

Derek hasn't got a condition. Back in the day before the clipboard mafia had to label everything, he'd be called a bit simple. If you look at Derek and make assumptions about him then YOU have a very big problem. You do. Not Ricky Gervais. Unequivocally and without qualification or exception, it is the people who see Derek and make assumptions about him based on his mannerisms and physical appearance, claiming he's on the autism spectrum, has Down's Syndrome etc, that are the problem with this world. THOSE are the people who are guilty of the very things they accuse Ricky Gervais of. THEY are the people who cannot see past the superficial, who cast aspersions and make snap judgements about a person because of how they appear. THEY are the mean spirited hypocrites who cannot move past their own ingrained prejudice. I genuinely find Ricky Gervais to be one of the most absolutely sincere people who has ever worked in show business. He is courageous, sticks to his beliefs, and people feel threatened by that. People simply cannot cope with what he and his creativity bring out in themselves. If you look in a mirror and don't like what you see, don't blame the mirror, blame the fucking twat looking into it.
