Remember Albert when he was in a UK country band called Country Fever playing pubs and clubs here in the UK, glad so many American artists appreciate him.

Not just anyone can trade bars with Albert Lee - on a mandolin! What amazing musicians both of these giants are! Ricky plays a mean Tele himself, by the way.

I rode the elegant Humming Bird passenger train out of Mobile, Alabama in 1957. The Humming Bird was a deep blue-and-cream beauty with red L&N logo on the nose way back in the late, great days of deluxe train travel.

Both Albert and Ricky are great in their own unique ways - this is the magic of music - we don't need to argue and fight about it - just dig the sounds man !

This makes me miss TNN SO much. Back when there were good shows, country/bluegrass on tv.

Many years ago I bought the Virtuoso tab book by Albert Lee and fooled around with it even though I'm a bluegrass acoustic flat picker and not a chicken picking electric player. I learned a few things and one of the solos is 'Hummingbird' I really, really want to learn how to pick this. So electrifying! I'm going to have to dig that book out and start doing some serious studying. Albert Lee is a master!

This song is just one of Skagg's best in the country era. That Albert Lee solo is just ripping. At some point I'm going to have to sit down and slow it down and learn it. lol

good god! albert lee and ricky skaggs! absolutely fantastic! what a smoking riff! i love seeing this come full circle, with a british guy nailing the guitar part. ricky is coming to a festival in my town in a few weeks, and i hope like crazy he's still picking on this kind of stuff, and not only gospel. he's the man!

Just unbelievable playing from the whole band, especially Albert. BluegrassLibrary, thanks for posting all of these AMS clips. At one time I had many of them on VHS, but those are gone. You've brought them back from the dead, for which I'm grateful.

That guitar Albert is playing has the best sound of any guitar he's ever played. Don't know if it's a Telecaster, or one made up to look like it. B bender and all. Great, funky, tone. Of course Lee's playing is right on top too.

I heard this song on a tape I got when I was in UAE in 1989 for a 8 month vacation since my dad worked in the hospital in Al Ain. The tape was called " Ricky Skaggs - Kentucky Thunder." The tape was my introduction to country music. After my trip in UAE, my cousin and I made a band called "Larry the Super Band" which covered the songs from the Ricky Skaggs Tape. We never came to the stage, but it was great memories ever since. My uncle has the tapes for safe keeping, but it had been fun to have them as memories.

This song was first heard on the "WHEELS" album by RESTLESS HEART. Greg Jennings (of Restless Heart and Tim Dubois, who co wrote a lot with Restless Heart). Restless had the first hit with it in 1986. Nope, not a Fender Tele for those who are having a Tele fit. lol Just a Tele Partscaster. You all say that this axe sounds better than his signature MusicMan. If you notice, this is more of a STRAT with a humbucker in the neck. The one and only difference between the 2 axes as far as the tones on here and MOST of the tones on the MM guitar is that Albert is using ONLY the bridge pickup on this song and on the MM he generally uses the #2 position (Bridge and middle pickups together). If Albert just went to the bridge pickup on the MM, it would sound no different than this. Scale length is scale length and the position in mm is exactly in the same position on both guitars. So, no difference except for the amp.

@jazzmaster1948 Actually according to the liner notes on the Kentucky Thunder album Albert Lee was the lead guitarist on this song.

@cactusjim1By the time Kentucky Thunder came out Ray Flacke was gone for about 5 or 6 years the last Album he played on was Don't Cheat In Our Hometown which was 1983 Ray Flacke was gone before Live In London which was 1985 Kentucky Thunder was 1989 so Ray Flacke was long gone by this 89 he was playing with Kathy Mettea so to sum this up to everyone he was gone by this time.

When the song hummingbird was brought out who was the lead guitar player that played hummingbird. Was it Albert lee or ray flack ?
@Imw1014 жыл бұрын
Albert. You can tell Ray’s playing by the incredible double stops, harmonic bends, and manhandling of the strings. I used to follow him around like a puppy dog in London In the ‘late 70’s when he was with Meal Ticket. Their records are available as a box set if you want to hear how good he was before he went to Nashville.
