On the contrary I believe you missed the whole premise of the movie. The point was that the friends are awful to each other because they don't know how to be inherently good people and it's ironic considering they created this character that is ultimately good which in the end teaches them all to instead be good people. Also, it sounds like you went in with expectations.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 01:04 *🎬 Ricky Stanicky's premise and initial excitement* - The premise of "Ricky Stanicky" involves three friends creating a fake friend to cover for their misdeeds, leading to comedic situations. - Despite the anticipation generated by the cast and premise, the film quickly disappoints due to its execution. 02:01 *😕 Lead characters' unlikeability and mean-spiritedness* - The characters in "Ricky Stanicky" come off as mean-spirited and unlikable, lacking the charm of similar ensemble comedies like "Dumb and Dumber" or "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." - Zack Efron's performance as the straight lead adds to the film's unpleasant atmosphere, contrasting with his previous comedic successes. 04:33 *🌟 John Cena's performance as a highlight* - Despite the film's shortcomings, John Cena shines in his role as Rod, a failed actor, injecting energy and humor into otherwise lackluster scenes. - Cena's commitment to his character's absurdity stands out, providing some of the film's few genuinely funny moments. 06:08 *🎥 Direction and cinematography issues* - The direction and cinematography of "Ricky Stanicky" feel rushed and lackluster, with scenes often lacking comedic framing or visual interest. - Bizarre choices in framing and composition detract from the film's humor and immersion, contributing to its overall mediocrity. 07:30 *💰 Unrealistic portrayal of wealth and lifestyle* - The film presents a disconnected portrayal of wealth, with characters living in lavish homes and driving expensive vehicles despite supposed financial hardships. - Unrealistic settings and lifestyles further detract from the audience's ability to relate to the characters and their situations. idk if i liked this movie or just liked john cena’s ricky stanicky😭. the friends (dean, wes, and jt) are very juvenile and unlikeable. when wes tells dean, “rod had a fake life and made it real. you had a real life and made it fake.” it made me understand why dean (zac efron) used ricky stanicky even until his adulthood. i rlly felt that dean and his wife loved eachother and that dean should just mature and heal from his past (which he did at the end of the movie). but these other two have no excuse-especially jt! you’re a grown man with a new born baby😭. and you let this random, strange man circumcise your baby. HELLO??? i would’ve divorced him, there’s no way. and wes is just a loser. and summerhayes is stupid, i don’t understand how he hired rod?? i guess i’m not a big fan of R-rated comedies though 😭 the last ones i watched were probably wedding crashers and cocaine bear, and i could not finish wedding crashers, my goodness.
@quinndeejee95645 ай бұрын
I just finished this movie a solid two hours ago. I really enjoyed it! And I wasn't necessarily expecting to, but like you said, it had a really fun premise. I thought some of the jokes throughout were well done, like Rod's arrival at the airport and how solidly he attaches to the Ricky character. One thing to me that I think would have fleshed out this movie and its characters more, is if we got to know them better and why the main cast of best friends individually persisted in this lie for so long. We get a few lines here and there and then eventual confirmation of Dean's shitty childhood, and interestingly enough Wes is more go-with-the-flow but in favor of telling the truth. But why only in these quick conversations? I was expecting some explanation throughout the entire film and it never delivered. If we could get steady development of how Ricky improves each of their lives, and a chance for the main cast to apply these lessons and learn something from them, that would give these characters a story to follow and contribute to the movie. And help them be more likable. The constant doubling-down and moments questioning it quickly dismissed is a missed opportunity to expand upon these characters and their stakes, their worries feel a little more realistic. Also, the main cast isn't quite differentiated enough. JT's the family man and kind of a neurotic nerd, Wes is an unambitious stoner, and Dean is the straight man of the group though he has an abusive family history holding him back. But also, him and JT literally have the same job. If we knew more about *how* and *why* these characters came to be the way they are, it would have made the movie a lot more cohesive. This same treatment for Ricky also could be cool (in fact I thought they were gonna do a subplot with him being Summerhayes' illegitimate, long-lost father---could explain some of his disdain for rich people knowing the fate he and his mother were left to), but keeping it vague and over-the-top works for as bizzare a character as Ricky is a logical choice also. Overall, I still found it very funny.

I really appreciate not wasting time on movies that really blow. I can only seem to tolerate the bad ones if there presented with the satirical commentary like MST3K or Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. My score, (i was born in 84, watched and paid attention to movies roughly at 1990) This was NOT a smash hit comedy. They tried, but i thought Ron/Stanicky would dnd up being somewhat antagonist of the show. Because he started as a con man, scam artist. The ending, wasnt good. It was written that way for "modern audiences" R rated comedies dont usually settle on how light hearted " ive never had friends before, thanks guys" type of ending made me cringe and groan the movie took a big 180 and didnt feel like the cast and plot should've felt. The most irritating problem for me was the casting that put the movie on the wrong foot the entire way through. Not once were these characters or their relationships believable. The set up for this movie just sounds like a joke with no payoff: "So a male bimbo, a jew, a black gay stoner and his disabled boyfriend walk into a briss... " Not to mention none of the actually jokes land, they're so dated and juvenile which lends to the unbelievability of the movie. Cena is serviceable as the comic lead, but yet again, a muscle head who is also an alcoholic drug addict? What? How is he able to drink and drug and still be as jacked as he is? Also, I've known and worked with plenty of gay men at this point in my life, not once have I ever gone out with these guys for a drink or to talk about relationships as if its a one-to-one ratio that we could relate to each other. This has always been the most annoying thing about the Farrelly Bros, how they seem to shoehorn in liberal agenda with slapstick cock and balls humor, like how are you gonna make dick jokes while still telling me I need to have a gay bestie and my wife needs to be a strong independent boss b? It just never hits for me, it's more just eye rolling cringe.

I mean, in the year of our Lord 2024, we actually have a movie with major actors where the plot is 'I hate my partner so much I invent a fake person to ditch her'. DUDE. Just breakup. It's a depressing premise. I need a movie to baseline assume men and women can at least kinda like each other.
@brajeshsingh23917 ай бұрын
Ricky Stanicky was a good idea but completely poorly executed. Three childhood friends invent an imaginary friend Ricky Stanicky to get them off trouble after a Halloween prank goes terribly wrong. Since it works they keep using him to get off trouble. Cut to their adulthood they are still using him. Two of the friends are working at the same company while the third is a no good slacker smoking weed and drinking milk from cows fed weed. After one of their lies gets them nearly caught they have to get a stand up actor doing gross out comedic acts to pose as their imaginary friend. Which then leads to a whole chain of events which threatens to blow up right in their face. As I mentioned the main premise was quite interesting. This was a genuinely good idea. But Ricky Stanicky clearly misses the mark when it comes to execution by a huge margin. The set up is too lose. It is never explained why they have to lie to family and friends for doing normal things. And the main character i.e. of John Cena who poses as the fake Ricky Stanicky is never properly established. That was the base of the story and that simply just happens without any twists or turns. The way the movie proceeds is just too casual and convenient. And without any humor. There is is very little humor in this movie. The movie does however manage to take the plot to a very interesting turn but even that opportunity is wasted by a most contrived and bland ending. Acting wise nobody seems very interested. Most of them seem just happy with their roles. Cena tries. He was probably the only actor who was genuinely trying to act his part. William Macy who obviously has too much of experience to fail in such a role is the only other actor who seems to genuine. But the plot does not offer them much. And even for Cena this was probably a role which exceeded his acting abilities. I give Ricky Stanicky a 4/10. The good idea just completely sinks because of loose plot and lack of humor. Unfortunately what you summarized was true. It ends up as another pretty crappy streamer.

Both Cena, and William H. Macy were fucking fantastic. It's a solid 7 out of 10, and there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever. There is zero nuance with movie reviews on the Internet these days, or people's opinions about movies in general. It has to be the best thing you have ever seen in your life, or it is absolute garbage. There is no in-between anymore. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 6/10, or 7/10 movie, but you people act like they are the worst thing you have ever seen in your lives. I guarantee that you haven't seen actual awful movies. Try watching some cheap direct to video 80's horror and action films, and you will have whole new perspective on what actually qualifies as a bad movie. Sometime a movie is just, "alright," and there is nothing wrong with that, nor does it make it a piece of garbage like you would call it.
