I feel you are missing his greater point. It's not that he knew him personally meaning like a friend, lover, colleague, or family member. However due to the interconnectedness of all things, beings, and species Toriyamas death had a great impact on him. While toriyama is bigger than his manga and story given that he is the creator, author, and founder the impact of how his death felt is profound. I personally have gotten a lot and feel his manga, anime is a reflection of in a sense him and his values. So when the author of said manga dies then that is a big blow and people feel emotions. Each person processes these emotions differently and for him it's the feeling of missing someone. However I feel it's more like kinda missing a figure that was important in one's life. Even if you didn't know personally he still was inspirational through his stories. It's like all might care about Deku on TV vastly before he met AllMight. When they met the dynamic changed but he cared about all nights existence long before he personally knew him How one can be saddened by a character's death in a TV show even if one does not directly know them. Well you can experience them directly in a way through the medium of the show and if the show is sufficiently deep enough and embedded or embodied you get the transmission. Toriyama is the inspiration for the shonen manga and anime industry to a large extent for action. Without toriyama anime + manga might not have ever gotten this far. So I from a fan base standpoint people do miss him and it varies based on his influence in their childhood. Personally for me dragon ball z archetypes were a big deal in influencing my life seemingly. However the best way to keep respects for him that I know would be Big Mind Dragon Ball (Z) (Heart)

Gohan Angers really speaks to me, because it is an emotional theme that has suits my life at certain points. I'm not sure if other people 100% understand, because they might not have grown up watching and being attached to the show, but I felt Gohan's pain and suffering in the Cell Games saga (where this theme debuted). The beginning of the theme, where the piano opens up, really symbolizes a sharp pain in your/my heart, almost like you're/I'm in betwen the boundaries of giving up and anger. When the instruments drop it feels like hope is being pumped through your/my veins, telling you/me not to give up. When the Viola introduces itself you/I just release all negativity through anger and vocalization (screaming). It's deep stuff man. I can relate to this theme, because I've played this song so many times, it describes so many situations where I've played it: working out, family drama, friendship problems, being pushed in a corner, etc. I've cried to this song, like Gohan did when Cell tried to push him to go Super Saiyan 2. Bruce Faulconer and his team really hit a gem with this theme, and so many people overlook this masterpiece. The Japanese OST has nothing on this emotional piece of music.

I feel like SSJ2 should have had more lightning in the aura, similar to how it was portrayed in the Cell Saga. The hair should be immensely spikier, and shouldn't flow as much as SSJ1 hair does. For example, Goku's bang stays in front of his face in SSJ1, but in SSJ2 - it would've been nice to see the bang shoot up into his hairline. Almost like showing that SSJ2 has a lot more concentration of the flow and aura. But the actual animation makes it hard to see what is SSJ1 or SSJ2. If no one said anything in the fight between Goku and Majin Vegeta, I would have assumed they fought in SSJ1. Same with Vegito. He had lightning in his aura but all media claims he was just an SSJ1. Hell, even Xenoverse changes nothing about your hair when you become an SSJ2 (but to be fair they didn't change your hair for SSJ1 either).

At first the theme sounds very mystic and soothing just like Gohan´s personality but then you hear new instruments, the guitar and bass. They represent the anger and power flowing through Gohan. They get progressively stronger and almost overcome the soothing theme, only for it to come back seconds later. Then you hear the soothing theme and the beat in regular breaks. The power is there but Gohan´s true nature was never gone, it is still there in the background. He hasn´t turned into monster.

I feel as though everyone is missing the point when it comes to the debate over whether or not Gohan was ruined after the Cell saga. It's not that he eventually got shafted by Toriyama like every other side character in terms of power levels, nor that we should just be content with him becoming scholar just as Chi-Chi always pressured him to be. The problem is that simply giving up on fighting completely negates his entire character arc which made him so many people's favorite Z-fighter. Gohan was born with incredible potential, but he could never control it thanks to his upbringing and personal fears. Whenever he was unable to access said power, he had to watch his loved ones suffer as a result. Android 16 literally gave his life to help Gohan realize that sometimes there's no choice but to fight, even if it goes against your nature. Sometimes, you must use your talents for the right cause. Or, as Uncle Ben put it: "With great power comes great responsibility." Letting all of that go to waste renders 16's sacrifice (which was only death in the entire series that held any weight since it can't be undone) completely and utterly meaningless. Likewise, forgetting about all of the death and destruction that happened at the end of the Cell games which mostly came about due to his repeated refusal to use his power really makes Gohan come off as a self-centered asshole who can't wrap his head around the responsibility his own father entrusted him with.

Ryan Sweeting GT Gohan was full blown retired from fighting just like Krillin. After the Cell saga he didn't have the call to action anymore because no one was threatening the Earth, they were at peace. When Buu reemerged he awakened that hero one final time, but it wasn't enough. Future Gohan, however was the hero we all wanted him to become.
