This game is awesome!! Absolutely recommended for non-experts who like motorcycles. I'm not an expert, but i really enjoy it. Models of motorcycles are fantastic. The object of the game is to acquire all bikes and customize them, like GT2 of the PS1.

So I played 4hrs so far and absolutely love it. This game allows you to drift sideways into the corner, kick tail on too much throttle mid-turn and wheelie on the way out :DD Every corner is fun. I play on semi-pro, without joint brakes and medium AI as these settings offer me challenge. Apex, grass, sand, gravel feel great. Walls not so great :( Too much braking/too late results in testing the quality of your leather suit and helmet. By the way the helmet POV is super enjoyable AND usable. I just started customizing my bikes, but it gives you a lot of options. As to arcade/realism - many settings to get close to reality while keeping the game enjoyable. Subbing as I am in generally interested in sims. Keep up the good work.

oh and the realism issue: yes it is kinda sim but not quite and thats what makes it enjoyable. riding feel is definitely sim and id strongly recomend to anyone in doubt to try to make "the perfect lap" on any track... it will keep you occupied for months trust me. by perfect lap i mean lap on a verge of track record with all the lines spot on perfect and do it lap by lap.. no raggedy riding ut smooth and calculated.. i only conquered portero this way ;)

Nor Cal, excellent question. I came from the same neck of the woods so I assure you this is a good route. 360 controllers are PC compatible and there are no better substitutes. Wired or wireless, wireless requires a dongle approx another £10-£20 dependant on brands and sales but you can connect up to 8 devices I think???? BUT if you are serious there is only 1 controller for bike sims, but you need to be serious! HS2 Pro. Custom built, Comes with bars, pedals and expandable to become FULL sit-on device. I know people who have been riding since the 80's that love this game and I, who ride myself adores it. It a huge step in the right direction and with lots of DLC I'l keep coming back. It would be better with a little more simulation especially with the wet weather, but in the end it is also designed with the accessibility of games like forza in mind so it can pull in the fans but I look forward to future tittles. For simulation though I'll look forward to the TT game.

After playing RIDE 1 some more since I posted my comment, I can understand more where you're coming from. Riding a Yamaha R1 around a race track with no assists (well, tcs on low) should not be this easy. Although I still think it's far more difficult and rewarding than a car game such as forza. It's just so much more intricate and involved, as bikes vs cars are in reality too.

Quick answer to question posed by title. No. Ride 2 is nothing like riding a motorcycle at all. They're at about 1% realism. It's so arcade it's hard to even watch gameplay videos. However, that doesn't mean that this video isn't any good... excellent presentation as always. Thank you for posting this!

I know I'm just being another smartass here, but you mean the Nuerburg Ring (aka "The Ring" / "The Green Hell"), which has nothing to do with the city of Nuremberg, which is where I happen to live (it's called Nuernberg in German). The two locations are about 400km away from each other. As passionate racer and fan, I had to get that off my chest. I don't care about "Phillip's Island", but please do try to get "The Ring" right! ;) Apart from that, thanks for a great review! Ride 2 does have some rather curious flaws at its core (you can't keep a constant radius on corners so you have to adjust with gas and brakes while leaning, any contact with the AI means trouble for the player but not for the AI, the player physics don't apply for the AI, rain does hardly effect grip levels etc.), but online races turn out to be really fun and exciting! If you care for a race or two, let's get in touch and I'll add you on Steam!

i clocked good 20hrs on this by now and i love it. i played bike games since 1998 SBK from EA which was great. i rode gsxr 750s in my life a lot and use only onboard view in game. this game feels like u really ride a bike. they nailed it. but number of graphical glitches in this game is really embarassing !!

Hi Max thanks for your comments. I agree I think this is the best Bike racing game on the market at present, considerably better than Ride and yes I would also agree it is sim like certainly. Personally I would like more realism, quite a bit more. Having turned everything on the game to the most realistic of settings I have found it quite easy to adapt and that is not realistic at all. Now I'm not pulling in perfect laps, as you said, but neither should I at this early stage. I want the game to be a challenge, not just the AI but the bike and the track too. I like that there are settings which allow any level of player to enjoy the game I think that is a great feature, but for those at the other end of the spectrum there needs to be more meat on it IMHO. That being said this game is good fun and there certainly are moments when I feel like I'm racing on an R1, which is fantastic! Just wish the AI was real AI and not like the AI I used to play against in the 80's. Overall this is a great game, and a huge step in the right direction from Ride and all before it, I just hope that Milestone keep making these advances in the game and soon we will have something to really get behind! On-board Cam all the way, Ultimate Realism!

1. The TT was in a game and it was the only track in that game. 2. The sounds aren't great but there are some high end games with the same problem(Forza + Grand Turismo) 3. They are limited in this game due to bike game and SIM. popularity. Yes I wish for the same things but the budget won't let it. I would love to see PCars add some motorcycle DLC(lol)

You make it seem like there is nothing to master. This game gives a great challenge when you take off most or all assists. None o the motogp games since 2015 seem worth a damn so this is the best we have right now. Theres no technology available to fully simulate riding a motorcycle, as it involves so many rider inputs. As someone who rides a sportbike, this is as comparable as ive seen in a game.

Thanks for your detailed description of the this sim. I've been playing moto games since before consoles and computers that offered any good moto or car games. I would play them at the arcades... This sim and all the others prior are really good! My suggestion to enhance these moto sims is to implement; "wind", rain, weather, night to day, and mechanical failures, body damage, and fuel usage and tire deflation/flats... For example how about 24 hour moto races: Bol d'or, or Suzuka 8 hours, etc... How about rider issues; helmet shield becomes fogged, or rain running across visor, the rider becomes fatigued...? There are games that offer real effects such as Skyrim where the weather changes; snow, rain, night and day... The character get's tired or dies...!? Would that be too traumatic if your playing a moto sim and the rider dies..? Maybe thats why they don't or haven't done it to this point... Well there's my .02¢ Thanks!

I came to this late. Pretty fair review all in all. Some of us have been on at Milestone for years to make a simulation racing game (not a "simulator") in the spirit of the old gp500 pc game but despite direct access to the head of their development team it didn't happen.. The physics modeling is improved from the original RIDE but in my personal opinion it is still more "simcade" than simulation. One of the most annoying things in Milestone's post motogp13 racing games is "grippy" grass and easily traversed off-track terrain. Again we have asked Milestone on numerous occasions to fix this but they seem intent on making their games accessible to a mainstream audience.. All in all a bit of a shame as with a little bit more intelligent fettling of their physics model(s) RIDE 2 and VR the Game could both have been very good games.. As they stand for me they are both too forgiving. gpbikes? Well I tried it and went back to online league racing on motogp by Milestone. For me the rear end and front end on gpbikes just do not cut the mustard.. Both in my honest opinion still need a lot of work. Just my opinion but I'm sticking to it.. ;)

Don't get me wrong..I think what PiBoSo has achieved from scratch as let's face it pretty much a one man band is amazing. I just think it needs taking hold of by an experienced real life racer and fine tuned. That's what I'm saying here. The front on cambered & off-cambered bends particularly can feel a little weird and is prone to "tucking" on you..my problem with the rear is that it does not slide on the power like a real life racing motorcycle does. Others may disagree with me of course. For me personally (and a few others) If you fixed those two aspects then gpbikes would have the potential to be a very good simulator. I did try 10c but I'm still struggling with the same "feeling" with it if I am honest. It's good but it's not great yet. At least for me anyway.. I think I might be in a minority in this opinion but in life it pays you to be honest about things I think. :)

Motorbikes have always been a tricky thing to translate into a game. They rely so much on feel and tiny inputs from the rider. I've never seen any game come close to the experience. Oddly, the best I've seen has been Driveclub: Bikes on PS4 - Far away from a simulation, but it seems to sit in the sweet spot of fun vs authenticity - plus excellent graphics.

I only ever play car racing simulators with a wheel, even the console ones. Doing otherwise is an exercise in frustration. A gamepad doesn't have enough feedback, or finesse. Given that there is no proper input device in the market for a bike simulator, so I don't get the disappointment with a game meant to he played with a gamepad for not trying to be a simulator. Are you sure you can pull off a counter-steer turn in with the left analog stick?

+total_gamer1989 you're absolutely right a game pad is not well suited for simulation. You're not correct about proper input devices for the bike simulator market though. There is a device called hs1 (forgive me if that's not the name will edit later) which has varying degrees of attachment from simple handlebar to full seat and lean. I'm not sure it is yet easily available but there are other alternatives or at least there should be. Previous installments from this developer completely crash if I plug in my G27 which is a shame because let's face it a steering wheel can act quite well as a substitute bike handlebar? All that aside the level or realism provided from this developer in each and every game they produce falls below the current bench mark and that's OK because that's what the game is. The shame part is that with this installment it is actually pretty close to being able to become more of a simulation experience and less of an arcade. The one exception which I need to draw attention to is the mxgp series which is more of a simulator because you have the left stick which controls the steering and the right stick which controls the rider. It's a shame they didn't include something like that in this game too. Like I said in the video there is considerable improvement with Ride 2 and it's better than any previous similar release, but because there is no real competition there is that chance they will slacknoff again and not try to do better with the next edition. That would be a real shame.

Nice review, very well put together! I played Ride 2 on PC a bit the other day and having played Ride extensively on PS4 (even platinumed it) I must say I do feel a slight improvement in handling, however not much enough for casual players to notice. This game feels like a reskin of the previous one - they just added a few bikes, a couple tracks and slightly tweaked the handling. Graphics seem to be nicer but then again the original RIde wasn't too bad either. In my view the game is probably not worth £40 but I'd definitely pick it up for £15-20 when the time comes. Regarding your closing thoughts - I ride a sports bike and have raced on track so I guess you could call me a hardcore biker. I don't think this game will be overlooked by people like us. There are plenty of riders who will just enjoy the game for what it is. Yes, maybe it's not the most realistic sim, yes, maybe the sound is a bit crap, but it's a game and it's still fun to play so here's hoping that people will give it a chance when the price drops.

I think you might well be right and I think that I was wrong about how hardcore bikers would see this game, I thought you might all feel it was too arcade and beneath you, I was wrong. I must admit to date that this IS the best Biker game I have seen and not being a hardcore biker myself felt it might be beneith you guys, but as there is little else to compete with Ride 2 then this game is certainly fun enough for anyone to play and enjoy. Is there anything not in the game that you really wish was there?

Completely agree. It obviously IS a arcade, every game will be and nothing will compare to (in this case) actually being on the bike yourself. Having said that I do agree that it's probably the best biking game to date. Regarding what's missing - I usually accept things for what they are and don't often feel like something's missing. In my case I wanted my bike to be in it (GSX-R 750) but they've got the 600cc version, which is almost the same. I know it's not what you meant but that's all I'd like to be added. Maybe a few more tracks for variety but other than that I think it's a good game, especially if you can get it around the £20 mark.

Hadn't seen it before but looks cool I must say, especially the VR version! I wouldn't say the graphics are that bad, it's a sim after. I'd take simulation over graphics any time! Fingers crossed something decent comes out of that game. Ride 3 maybe :D

The difference between this game and the first Ride game is like night and day ..... Ride was ambitious but ultimately buggy and a bit crap ... Ride 2 is pretty much everything I had hoped for in the first game :) It runs smooth as butter at 4K 60fps full max settings on my GTX1080. It looks great and plays really nicely too, full controller remapping available, loads of bikes and circuits, plenty of rider / profile customisation options ... the only I would ask for is more upgrade options for the bikes. I would definitely recommend this game ;)

+strangegoat1 thanks for your comment, I agree with you completely. The only addition I would make is that the bike ride experience could be better. Having recently tested out GP Bikes (video coming soon) I can say that GP bikes has a much better ride feeling to it, much better. If it were possible to have GP bikes ride experience in Ride 2 it would be my ultimate game and absolutely perfect on all counts.

Thanks for the review, it was nice how you put it together, However i find the menu's very pane, and those graphic settings you found was very 1990's if not very old mind blank, that silly game engine. Its a shame when a company can release game after game and not care because of lack of competition Thats what i tended to think about FIA soccer for a hell of a time. I wonder if the customization in game will actually affect the game, The fact that you can ignore the breaks just makes for a stupid game. they might as well take away the accelerator and just leave left and right and see how players enjoy the game, The game will never be picked up again.

Thank you. LOL you're absolutely right but I think the braking thing is good for absolute beginners and children alike, it allows a Father to play against his son and both have fun for example. I am going to look further into the game and maybe upload some race, gameplay etc.

People with only wheel controllers on a PC, beware and read below. i just Got Ride 2 on sale and found out the hard way that these bike games do not work with a wheel controller without adding additional software like x360ce. I did not see anything in Steam initial specifications about stating what controllers work/not work directly with the game. i am on a PC and do allot of Auto racing Sims. This kinda stupid that they wont allow a wheel controller even though it is not an ideal controller. At least it is better than banging and steering on a keyboard. Kinda stupid with a keyboard. i wish all these bike reviews would state up front that a wheel controller will not work without doing additional things and then it is no guarantee that it will work. i may not have bought the game if I knew this up front. I have watched several KZbin videos on the game before I decided to buy Ride 2 and no one mentions this about controllers. It is not just Ride 2, but other bike games dont show or talk about their setups. i had an older GP bike game and it did work with a wheel controller(cant remember the name). It was allot of fun even with a wheel controller. Another dumb thing with Ride 2 on initial startup, they throw you into a race before you even get to the options menu. Another stupid way to do a game. As you can tell I haven't done any bike games except the the one GP bike game along time ago. So this is a shock to find out about controller settings. I assume all the bike games follow what Ride 2 does for controllers. i am not buying another bike game until i figure out how to make Ride 2 work with x360ce software and to use my Wheel controller. Sorry for my rant, but I hate games that do this. Over and out.

Whew!!! After a couple of hours tonight with Ride 2 and x360ce game software emulator I finally got Ride 2 to recognize my Thrustamster TMS Wheel controller the way I want it. x360ce recognized my Wheel controller right away but had to move some button assignments around to work with shifting. I could not change button assignments in the Ride 2 control section, it would always assign the same parameter to everything I wanted to change. Not sure why. Now i know any of you that have game controllers will probably be allot faster controlling the bike in the corners then I ever will be with a wheel, but at least I will have fun on all the tracks now. I did 3 tracks, Road America, Monza, and a small country RC. I live near Road America so I am very familiar with that track. I do have one problem with Ride 2 and that is when i try to bring up the game a 2nd time, i get a black screen and doesn't want to start. I have to reboot my PC then the game works again. Not too sure why. Now i have confidence that i can probably get other bike games to work with my wheel controller from what I tried above. I really like the GP type tracks. Take care.

I'm a huge bike racing fan and will buy any sim bike game that comes out but I'm tired of these "street/made up" There are plenty of real tracks in the world that are more than exiting enough such as Cadwell Park, Oulton Park, well any of the BSB and WSB calendar just looks at Project Cars for an example of how to pick the best tracks in the world. Very good review but I don't think I will be getting RIDE 2. I'll stick to GP Bikes for now.

I must be honest I wasn't massively impressed with anything previously released by milestone but Ride 2 is pretty great, I genuinely enjoy it. Online seems much better and more stable on console though. Yes I am an avid GPBIKES man and that sounds great! I warn you now though that I picnic quite a lot still, even when going slow lol. I am intending to release a massive fully in - depth review of gpbikes this Sunday (hopefully) it's been weeks in the making and I really have tried to capture everything. I'd love to know your thoughts on it if you watch, and please do share it too :) Got lots of really cool stuff coming in the next few weeks for biking related content :)

+LordOfNomNom thank you. You're absolutely right, I did neglect to mention the AI, Apologies. The AI is not in anyway intelligent. It has no knowledge of your presence and will not avoid you in any circumstance. You will most likely wipe out into, or be wiped out by an AI rider at some stage. It doesn't happen so often that it's and issue but does seem to happen at the worst time possible, last lap of you best race for example! Lol. The front runners are much faster than the rest of the pack and the first two are relentless in terms of pace and consistency. The AI are more of an obstruction than a competitor but do enough to make the game a challenge and both fun and entertaining. Lots of replayability in this game I for one am loving it despite it lack of realism.

"unfortunately it's not a simulator, which is a shame." Let's talk about Gran Turismo.... But really though, how are you going to simulate a bike properly? Cars, ok I get it, you can set a steering wheel and pedals, and that's preety much what you need(unless you want ot apply G-Force on yourself). But bikes? I've seen the GPBikes review, but that thing looks unapeeling, and again I have no idea how you'd be simulating a bike on a PC. It just doesn't work, you'd need to have something physical to do it. Dunno, that's just me. Ride 2 feels good enough to me, reminds me of the old Tourist Trophy for PS2 made by Polyphony back then(without the track in it's title. I feel fooled).

+Rafeku1 I think ride 2 is a great game. It misses accurate collision physics and the gearing is all wrong lol. GPBikes has a much closer feel to it. It's tough to implement of course but ride 2 is not trying to be a simulator, I think that's a shame because it could be brilliant.

On PC is realy difficult to ride stronger bikes because you have just on/off keys and when accelerating out of corners you are often getting highsiders. Sometimes AI are absolutelly stupid other times they are perfect and unbeatable. This game is absolutelly lot of fun, but unbalanced and can make you really mad!

hhmm, i try to write clear... To me that is insane game, but that streering feel is odd, there is no adjustment possibility, i mean adjust that feel/force, i use logitech gamepad 310, i mean that pad feel is off when turning.. But when you are racing, those levels of difficulty is little off, that extra easy is too easy, but if you play in semi-pro there is that one which one is hard core driver, also i havent seen any "slipstream"(if that is right word), but when there is one back he is coming "slipstream", also leader running ahead of you runs suddenly faster??..Also when you race in supermoto, that exchange direction is a bit slow.. I like that number of bikes, also in races. Also it need some updates in those bikes mode, i mean there should be more those sticker set, for example in Ktm bike, they have own powerparts etc.. I hope that will tell what i mean...
