(Ride Along) LACo.FD Engine 170 - Reported Brush Fire

Los Angeles County Fire Department Engine 170 responding to a reported brush fire in 38’s area on Stocker St. & Presidio Dr.
Units due: Battalions 1, 13 & 20, Engines 18, 38, 58, 170, 171, 172 & 173, Squad 172, Patrol & Water Tender 70, Camp Crews 2-2, 2-3, 8-1, 9-1, 16-2, 16-3, Copters 14, 16, 18 & 19, Superintendents 11 & 12 and Dozers 6 & 8.
Engine 38 arrived on scene to find no brush fire, LA City also had a ticket for a fire-out for Engine 94 only.
Battalion 20, Engine 38, Engine & Squad 172 and Copter 14 were able to handle the investigation and canceled the balance of the assignment.
Engine 170 is usually only staffed with two and married to Quint 170 (Light Force 170). However, due to the holiday, both Engine & Quint 170 were fully staffed and split (augmented staffing).
Engine 170 was running in Engine 558 (a reserve engine) - a 1998 KME, apologies for the lack in b-roll.

not sure about law enforcement channels on county rigs, but they can definitely monitor and communicate with neighboring departments. i know LAFD has handheld LAPD radios in their rigs (or "blue" radios as they call them), not sure about County. thanks for watching!

After 9-11 the National Incident Management System (NIMS) was enacted and part of it is Called Incident Command System (ICS) Most departments whether fire or police have digital radios that are capable of working nearly anywhere in the country. In a large area like LA it's impractical to monitor so many agencies but you can select the frequency you want and communicate with little trouible. For that matter LA County FD can go to NYC and communicate with those agencies. I have seen a police officer in the Bose, ID area speak to an officer in Florida (On vacation) speak via dept radio like theye were standing next to each other. The technology is pretty awesome. And this was not a large dept, city of 100K or so.

Hell yeah sweet video please be extra careful and safe when u have 2 go against traffic I used 2 be a former firefighter in Williams Oregon and when I used trying 2 c how quickly I could respond in a city of grants pass Oregon I got written up 4 going against traffic even though in grants pass Oregon the main drags north and south bounds lanes r all one way traffic streets except when 6thst ends there's sorta of a small 2way traffic direction and that's where I got written up because that light takes 4ever 2 change green from red my Lt said that I should've killed my sirens and just keep my red lights activated so when the light changes green then I could reactive my sirens please stay safe my brother's

as mentioned in other comments, if they got back on the correct side of the road at the first light (104th St.), they would have been stuck at the second light (Century Bl.). even if they took that chance to get back into the opposing lanes between the two lights, they might as well have just stayed there the entire time. there was no traffic. thanks for watching.

adam dalmation we do it in EMS sometimes. It’s not extremely common but we are legally allowed to do it in emergency mode. As long as we do it safely and not out of control then it’s fine. The only time it’s illegal is if we aren’t in emergency mode
