Some stations in LA (county included) have what's called a light force. That means there are 2 engines & 1 ladder at the station. Using this station as an example, engine 26 stands alone & is the newer of the 2 engines. Engine 226 is (of course) the older one & is paired with ladder 26. If an ems call gets dispatched to that station and engine 26 is home, then they will take it. But if they aren't home, then light force 26 will. engine 226 & ladder 26 always respond together.

jazzbutterworth when both Engines go it's called a TaskForce. The truck and pump(E226) only, is called a lightforce. After the Watts riots in 65, the city of LA hired an outside agency to come up with an efficient way, to utilize their apparatus and man power.

the LA area has been using a two-tone style horn system for decades. It is a tradition there and has been abandoned widely by any other areas that once used them.

@Nachtgestalt87 Essentially, a group of fire apparatus run together to incidents, thereby allowing the firefighters to be flexible relative to addressing the emergency they've been called to. When a Truck runs with one engine, it is referred to as a Light Force. A Light Force is used for a wide array of emergencies, ranging from structure fires to traffic accidents, to cardiac arrest. The crews on board rotate from position to position so they are familiar with everything. Hope that helps.

really? a whole station for a medical call?
@ProudVolunteer1914 жыл бұрын
@Wouter112 Honestly, they probably only need to send one engine OR one ladder truck, not both. The reason for more than just an ambulance is because there are two firefighters on the ambulance, 1 which drives it, and the other which is the attendant. If they get a call for a cardiac arrest or something serious, then one of the firefighters (or two) from the responding fire engine or ladder truck will get in the ambulance at the scene, and assist the attendant because one person can't do it all

Those two-tone horns on the ambulance sound sweet!

@SkaMaRtiSt1991 The engine and ladder are one in the same here. They always run together because they are one unit. If something else occurs on the road both units are able to respond at the same time. The crews are considered one crew not two. This is what a light force is and why it is not simply just an engine company and a ladder company responding... it is essentially one company split up on two trucks.
@mso335514 жыл бұрын
@SkaMaRtiSt1991 The reason why T26 and E226 (LF26) responded with RA26 was probably because E26 was busy and couldn't take the call. If E26 was available when this call came in it probably would've responded instead of LF26. LIke Spartan said a LF is considered 1 company. 200 series engines are only staffed by an engineer so alone they're rather useless. This is why they always respond with the truck. E209 is the only exception.

@jazzbutterworth I'm guessing when I said "200 series engines...rather useless" you thought I was saying that the pump responds alone. I didn't mean that. All I was saying was that the pump is only staffed by 1 engineer so it would be pointless to have it respond alone. The only pump in the department that responds alone is E209 because it is fully staffed like a regular engine though that may change due to the city's budget issues.
