[Los Angeles] LAFD Light Force 61, Engine 61 & Rescue 61 With Lights & Siren!

Captured here are various emergency responses from Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Fire Station 61 in the Miracle Mile area. You will see Light Force 61 (made up of Truck 61 and reserve Engine 443), Engine 61, and Rescue 61 all responding to different calls for service in the neighborhood. I was also able to visit Station 61 and got to meet the awesome firefighters (special thanks to them!!).

Great catches. Wonderful production here! Thank you. On the first Rescue 61 rolling code, I am wondering if they still have a wig-wag function in those headlamps, or just did not have them activated. I always thought they are very effective for recognition, especially if the headlamps are the newer LED (white) ones. The KME pumper and truck have awesome forward/front LED code lights and headlamps.

I really don’t get the concept of ladder company bringing a spare Engine with them

@@DomenicRamacciato-uo4dr The concept is not to “bring a spare engine”. Both units are frontline. They just happened to be running a spare engine as part of the Light Force when I was there. The Light Force concept is about getting manpower to incidents (6 firefighters in total) and being able to manage a fire call right away due to the pumping capabilities of the engine (the ladder truck doesn’t have a pump).

@@stevewolf9211 Light Force means a Truck and an Engine that always respond together. There are 5 firefighters on the truck and 1 engineer/ driver on the engine. It’s done for manpower and to have pumping capabilities for the truck in place right away.

I don't get the point of a tiler truck and an Engine with only the driver on board responding as a combo

The ladder doesn’t have a pump, so the engine responds with a driver only so the ladder can function without a full engine crew for smaller fires. (I think)

There’s only one engineer/ driver on the engine for the Light Force, and 5 firefighters in the truck.

Think of it as a two piece quint. LAFD does not use quints, instead they use the light force concept. You can split the crews to do engine or truck work, even both.
