That transition at 0:44 from a fietsstrook to fiestpad by merging away from the road, then crossing the road at a more acute angle is wonderful. It explains to me how I can make this work here in the US. Thank you!

5:10 for showing infrastructure, hemelrijkstraat maybe was the better option, but you ride along a busy and noisy road (behind trees on the right). Left on kapelbergstraat is a more pleasant ride along the knooppuntenroute to the bosschebroek and join the route back @ 20:00

To be honest after 10:14 I don't understand why there is still a dashed line on both sides. There is no way one can cycle right of the line.
@LeafHuntress8 ай бұрын
Those are suggestion lines, they are there to make the road optically smaller for motorists to lower speed. These aren't bikepaths. Pardon, my comment^ was for the lines BEFORE that point. The lines after that point are there to signal where the side of the road is.
@RolandRides8 ай бұрын
@@LeafHuntress Interesting. In Germany sidelines are continuous. We have dashed "bike protection lanes" (Schutzstreifen) but they are making everything worse and more dangerous as car drivers are allowed to ignore them and also illegally don't keep 1,5m distance when they pass.
@miles56008 ай бұрын
@@LeafHuntress that's not what they're for, they're there to visually narrow the road, it doesn't add anything, just makes sure people don't drive too fast.
@miles56008 ай бұрын
@@RolandRides we have the dashed bike lanes too where people drive 80 and above while overtaking you with barely any space. lots of accidents happen on those roads, I know multiple people who've died or got hit on those types of rural roads, sadly even The Netherlands still has a lot of work to do, not to mention the limited amount of land the municipality is allowed to use for the road.

hmmm interesting route seems you had to share many roads with car traffic. I don't love that but the cars were going slow no? Is there automated speed enforcement in the Netherlands?
@BicycleDutch8 ай бұрын
Did you miss the modal filter at 12:40? This is the old road that can only be used by residents, for all others it is a dead end. The main current road runs parallel, a few hundred metres to the right of this old road.
@EvilTurtle978 ай бұрын
There is no automated speed enforcement on roads like that. Those are typical smaller roads between villages and farms. They aren't ideal and I must say they do feel a bit dangerous especially at night. But the idea on how to slow down cars is basically to 'narrow' the road by having large trees very close to them as well as the two lines on the side also visually narrowing the road, which makes driving fast feel more dangerous. Honestly not a huge fan of those type of roads, I suspect the only reason they are somewhat safe is because they are usually very calm as well as drivers here being used to bikers, I personally do not like them because you completely have to trust a 60km/h (speed of those roads) car to both pay attention as well as respect you and go out of the way for you.

@@BicycleDutch Yes, I must have missed that. Looking back I thought it was a plastic cone. Does it lower if you have a remote or something?
