@@haslinjas1075 It does look like vandalism. That's what I thought when I saw the thumbnail of this video too. It might actually be a deliberate design though, done by the owners/operators of it. I don't know if it's to discourage vandalism, 'oh, look someone got here first', or if they're advertising encouraging children to make a mess for 'creative unlocking' or whatever the pretentious 'art' folk would call it.

If you ever are at Bush Intercontinental Ariport in Houston, TX, they have an underground tram that goes through all of the terminal sections for the cost of parking. And having worked there for 15 years i can tell you it was down to be integrated across the whole airport in time but like i said the company went bust BAA purchased it to finish off the current system and shut it down. It was never intended to only serve the poor executives, it was intended to serve everyone. I use the term poor cause the real rich have their own private terminal at T5 and can get driven right to the aircraft via limo.

It is a neat solution but the problem is the limited capacity of this system compared with a two track metro that can handle up to 60K passengers an hour this sort of solution will struggle to handle 2000 an hour, less than 5 large wide bodied jets.
@petero6471
@petero6471 28 күн бұрын
This system basically connects a parkinglot for about 5000 cars to terminal 5. So there is no need for 60K/h passengers to and from this parkinglot. Most passengers indeed take the train or underground into London (or somewhere else in the UK) or a connecting flight.
@grahamariss2111
@grahamariss2111 28 күн бұрын
@petero6471 True, but the problem with this system is that it is very expensive when compared with the alternative with similar 2000 passenger per hour capacity like a bus, but most of all the reason these type of high tech solutions to an already solved problem prove so expensive and short lived is that unlike a bus, tram or train you cannot source replacement from alternative suppliers, you are locked into this one manufacturer for everything for ever and a massive infrastructure cost to opt to an alternative.

@grahamariss2111 24 күн бұрын
@petero6471 Yes, but if you check the service they offer the out of hours service is covered by a shuttle bus. The issue I assume is the need to have people on hand to safely get people from the pod and track area in the event of a breakdown.

it would be cool if they had a few stops at the car park like row 1 row 10 row 20 every 10 rows to make sense if the pod system.

I’m so jealous. We have autonomous trains at Toronto’s airport but, the pods are way cooler.

@stashoneill Toronto airport and transit system is very impressive. I did Heathrow, JFK, to Toronto recently. Heathrow and Toronto very futuristic, and JFK like going back to 70’s. The cost of transit in Toronto to city was remarkably cheap compared to uk. The fast transit to London city from Heathrow can cost £70 one way.

Had the "already parked" pod (at the end of the ride) been vandalized?
POV: You're a bag that was just checked at the airport
