Bought a new one on a 2000 pound discount in India. Absolute riot! Have done 20000 KMs in less than 8 months with just weekend rides. Have taken it everywhere, even mild offroading. Put a pair of metzeler 9rrs on it and see how the ride quality on both highways and twisties improves by 30 percent! Phenomenal! Such an underrated bike! I can live with the 100 mile range because I end up ripping it and it helps to stop to rest and reset. I am on my fifth tyre..Thats how much I have enjoyed it!

Katana and Hayabusa will always have a very special place in my heart - not in my garage, but still. When the first Katana was showing up in the early 1980's it was a bloody serious piece of work and it surprised quite a lot of riders when they turned the throttle just to find themselves at insane speeds a mere second later. Nothing compared to it. All was left in the dust behind it. Today it doesn't have that special look any longer, but they can never remove the name and the feel it gives you. The Hayabusa is all of the above ^2.

I think that 150 mph on any bike is pretty academic nowadays. I am happy best at 110mph or lower, but at higher speeds, the buffeting and noise and wobbling if you're not tucked right in, is just a chore. We all do the top speed run, but once is enough about 150 mph

Nice vid. It's such an underrated bike & the more people hate on it, the more I like it. I also think it looks great. The 12 litre tank is silly but there are plenty of other bikes out there with very similar ranges of about 120 miles despite larger tanks. Nobody really criticises them because the tank capacity is greater but the end result is the same. The MT10 & Ducati V4 Street Fighter to name a couple of examples.
@Villani_AV Жыл бұрын
My current bike has averaged 90 miles per tank, lmfao. It only sucks when you can only have 1 bike and want to travel
@aka_pierre Жыл бұрын
my tuono only goes 110 per tank but it has a 20 liter tank.
@wolfpackpete64089 ай бұрын
If the capacity is more but those bikes aren't delivering more miles from the larger tank... those bikes are robbing you. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised. The long-stroke (relative to category) should mean it's a more efficient engine by default, and that appears to be the case.
@mikebennhausen2153 Жыл бұрын
I have a 2019 katana. Living in germanys south my trips leads me to croatia, Italy and Spain. And yes the tank is a bit too small but the riding and sound are great. Your videos are superb, thank you.

@martyn_g Жыл бұрын
Nah. Tft isn’t essential. I’m looking at the road most of time, not staring at the display. As for range, this would be for me, a second bike. My Vstrom 1050 XT fills the commuting/touring role, so a bigger tank isn’t necessary.
@martyn_g Жыл бұрын
On my shopping list - is the engine good? Are the brakes good? QS? Fuelling? So many other things are important. Not whether it has a TFT.
@kenbowlus2995 Жыл бұрын
3:42 QS / auto-blipper- 7:16 throttle response (that's fueling) / rider modes / traction control - 9:52 more QS review - 10:01 engine - 11:38 fuel tank criticism. Every M/C review touches on the display, so to not mention it would have generated criticism also.... can't please everybody. No comment on the brakes was definitely a reviewer "miss," but I thought it was a decent job for somebody who wasn't alive to experience the original Katana in the early 1980's (I had two of them, one being my first new purchase off the showroom floor) which could have made for a more entertaining review to compare historical analog between then and now. @@martyn_g

The Dash is deliberately designed to be 80s style...as that is where the original Katana bike came from. So Suzuki, even while it may seem imperfect, wanted to link the modern Katana to that 80s retro style.

The small tank was what put me off so when my bike shop said they had the last GSX-S 1000F in Oz I had to go and look and buy that bug eyed machine. Specs are pretty much the same, same engine, similar horsepower, no blipper or quick shifter, but I'm pretty good with a clutch. The only difference is I've fitted a Yoshimura Alpha 1 exhaust which in hindsight was a breeze to fit and has enhanced that sound which would have naughty Kate turning into feral Kate. The frame is a bit different, rear subframe looks a bit stronger on the Katana. Ride wise handling is a bit better on the Katana but it's more of my perception as I only had the Katana for a day. I have no problems with the GSX-S1000F as it does what it says on the tin.

Hi 👋 Kate😢😢😢😭 I ‘m a little bit sad. Listening to your nice words for that angry tomcat makes me miss her even more, damn. I traded it for duke 890 R because I wanted a lighter 2 cylinder so badly, but to be honest the katana was way easier to ride, even though 50 kilograms fatter. The Katana seemed tailored on my sizes and it was very difficult to find some cons, except for the tank. She was so “badassly” hooligan. I think you felt same emotions… what a dream bike. Not mentioning I had it brand new, really for cheap (10200 € on the road, all included with Jindachi pack in 2021), because she had not the success she deserved, here in Italy, and euro 5 hasn’t been even imported. Anyway, what’s done is done; now I have to race with my horses. Thank you for beautiful video.

@petelyden8193 Жыл бұрын
I would have expected a ride review to have the suspension setup (adjustable?) as we are all different and suspension/tyres are the one of the main things in handling. Suzuki are known for putting cheapish shocks and forks on bikes which service the bike well for a couple of years but usually need upgrading. My GSX 1250 FA is shortly getting an adjustable Nitron rear shock as I am a lightweight but it seems setup for a 120+ kg rider. Katana sounds nice tho', but I personally don't like it's style. I'd rather have the 1000GT.

I'm gonna be bold and say that the best modern day bikes come outta the Suzuki factory. You have recently just ridden two of the very best... this Katana and the V-Strom. My daughter rides a '04 Bandit and even that is still a good'n, even without the modern day electro gadgets. Think she's currently flirting with a GSX-8S. That exhaust sound here is pure Ear pornography, love it. Reckon if I rode that bike for long, especially listening to "Highway to Hell" turned up loud, that's where i'd end up... in Hell. Yeah, unfortunately i'm too old now to thrash that machine the way I and it wants to. So guess i'll stick to my Cruiser and let you do the mad stuff, as that's also good for me, to watch you having fun, and entertaining enough to keep me entertained..., go get'em girl, go munch them miles! Good times and happy days are only found in large portions when on a bike, and you sure are confirming that..... and wot's better, you're gettin' paid for it ! See ya.

Whohahaha! 😂 Bad Kate indeed! The original 750 and 1100 Katana’s are true design icons. Suzuki reviving that look is a good thing although this one misses the sleekness of the original. Ever increasing air box volumes however make it difficult to keep such wiry lines and the tank volume also suffers accordingly. My fave bike however only carries 10 l. Irritating but does not keep me from riding it with glee. Such bikes are not made for touring anyway.
