There are similarities between these two.and Megadeth's most celebrated albums (Peace Sells and Rust in Peace). Peace Sells' cover is dominated by orange and red like MOP and Rust in Peace is blue like RTL.

If only Rust in Peace came out in 1988 instead of So Far, So Good…So What. The latter is more akin to AJFA while Rust In Peace is Megadeth’s equivalent of Master Of Puppets. Metallica and Megadeth have a very similar debut and sophomore album trajectory. In fact, the first 4 records from each band have 2 masterpieces as well as 2 maligned but well loved albums.

Call me crazy, but MOP is my 3rd favorite metallica album. RTL comes 2nd, and AJFA is my number 1 :P

Call me crazy but the song MOP kind of wears out its welcome for me. I love the intro and the verses/chorus but the slow break and the ascending/descending riff is a bit too much crammed into one. I’ll still listen to the whole thing but it I think it could have been streamlined a bit more.

RTL is my favourite But RTL and MOP are like The Godfather to Godfather Part II or Goodfellas to Casino.

Very few times in my music loving life do I find myself listening to ANY band's 4th album. The creativity usually dries up, or someone crucial to the band passes. In Metallica's case, I could argue that Cliff Burton's passing made AJfA objectively worse, but the lyrical and musical content (even without much of a bass presence) still makes it one of their best... However, if argue that Metallica built up their musical prowess in Ride and Master, then treated the loss of Burton as a catalyst for Justice. The lack of bass in that album feels symbolic, even though the band admits they just cranked up the guitars because that's what they could hear after their months of touring. In essence, Ride and Master play similar roles, and I'd sit right on the fence to say the albums are EQUAL 😋

I’ll save everyone 13 minutes of their lives and say it’s neither, Kill em All is the ultimate Metallica album and it’s not even close.

master of puppets is a better album. ride the lightining is more influential.

Kill 'em All is the best Metallica album. It's like a sledgehammer to your forehead.
