I hope you enjoyed a look into how I find furniture to flip at thrift stores. There are lots of other ways to acquire furniture. Let me know some of your favorite ways to find furniture. I may include the ideas in a future video!

Estate sales! We have a large senior community nearby and can usually find treasures there, mostly in pristine condition.

Living in Southern California I literally drive around and find a ton of stuff people put out. Trash days seem to bring out old furniture too. Otherwise I use Marketplace and OfferUp to search for FREE or reasonably priced furniture worth working on. Got some good ideas from your video. Thanks! Love your videos and your work.👍

Holy crap 😨 the first one the Thomasville armore was my parent's until I inherited it and the matching dresser. I'm so glad I still have the set!! 😁 The dresser I made into a bathroom vanity. My son is still using the armore. My parents have passed but everytime I look at their furniture I think of them.

That dresser is a steal! Nice find. Id love to see white or blush pink with rose gold guiding/glaze/rose gold hardware! Haha. Blush/dusty pinks are 'trending' and I sell butt loads of rose gold so thats a seller too. I sell so much I had to start making my own rose gold paint.

The Thomasville piece would look good with a yellow base and white glaze or wax over the yellow. The dresser could be a blended hombre finish.

I love to see the armoire with a red hue of polish and some shadows in the creases too emphasize the design work. Then the drawers i think would look pretty cool woth some 70's or art deco flair of the geometric decorative choices

Curb shopping. I never pay for furniture (or lamps, rugs, tables, baskets, etc.) because what people put on the curb keeps me plenty busy. May not see anything for a month, but sometimes I score more than I can fit in the truck. Once I even had to unload and go back for more! Apartment complex dumpster areas are good spots too.

Can you make a video explaining your setup for example how you have your spray paint room setup? I"m interested in getting into restoring furniture and eventually paint spraying, but I don't know the best way to create a room like you have to avoid paint overspray and getting it all over my garage as well as how to handle the fumes. Thank you.

Another alternative/lower cost truck idea, I know here in Cincinnati Lowes and Home Depot rent trucks for 20$ for hour or 2 hrs. I work in delivery center for furniture company and we've seen people pull up in their trucks picking up furniture to save 140$ delivery fee.

Hello from AZ. I have been inspired by your videos. I have a 1927 Wurlitzer Band Organ, in pieces and pretty derelict which I am going to fully restore. I am competent enough to do the carpentry but was wondering where you are based. I am looking for someone to refinish the cabinet. Do you take commissions? Keep up the good work :)

What's up SSG !! Love your stuff . Your an inspiration. I'm so.ewhat of an artist and what u do to this furniture is Picasso . Thanks for all the tips . It's getting me a long way seeing I'm new to this furniture deal . I do have one question, if u have the time to answer would be greatly appreciated. I bought this dresser , I've been stripping all my tops of pieces with the Kwik strip 15 min . It's worked well every time.. not on this dresser top. Did nothing . Not a single thing. I'm not mad just confused on the top piece material used on this dresser. Any idea on what it might be made out of ? No idea what company makes it. Have u ever had this issue? I'm hoping that u have so u can give me the gossip on the steps I need to make. Thanks . That's stain art u did , blew my mind and I'm going to try it out.
@ThatShabbyGuy
@ThatShabbyGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Could be a plastic top or some other composite material. I've only had it happen a few times. You can usually look at the back of the top and get an idea of what it is made out of. Sometimes you need to take a razor blade and remove a veneer backing on the top to see what it is made of. I'm guessing you have some sort of laminate/plastic top though. Hard to know without seeing it.

Can you do a vid on how to make a work space when you don't have a lot of space?
@ThatShabbyGuy
@ThatShabbyGuy 3 жыл бұрын
When it comes to workspace, I've almost always had a large area to work in. I painted a few pieces by hand on a drop cloth in an apartment living room, then in a 10x10 storage unit, a 1200sq ft barn, my largest was a 3600sq ft building with an additional 1000 sq ft location for incoming furniture. Now I'm back to a 1200 sq ft work space. So while I could probably give you advice on how to use a large area if you have a ton of work to do, I really cant help out much by saying "this is what I do". I prefer to make content on things that I have experience in rather than just talk about circumstantial advice about "what I WOULD do" and maybe not give solid advice. Hopefully this is understandable. I do appreciate the suggestion though. Thanks for watching!

I am in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex. 7 million people in my area so lots of opportunities to find inexpensive furniture, free furniture, etc. If you notice I hit up 3 resale/thrift shops and that was just in a 2-3 mile area and there are even more in the area, not including two Goodwills that are within a 10 minute drive from me

Why don't you get a truck so that when you see on the curbside its free
@ThatShabbyGuy
@ThatShabbyGuy 2 жыл бұрын
It isn't free... I'd have a truck payment, fuel costs, maintenance costs, vehicle insurance, etc. I haven't had a truck in three years after my last one bit the dust. I had so many people bringing me stuff and picking it up, I've seen it as an extra expense when I can be putting that money towards other things. For most other people though, it makes sense to have a vehicle. Also, don't assume I do this every time I find furniture. Our SUV can fit most small dressers or I'll give one of my neighbors $20 for their time to help me pick them up. Or... If I have to, I'll rent a uhaul.

You need to find a friend with a pickup truck.
@ThatShabbyGuy
@ThatShabbyGuy 3 жыл бұрын
I have a few neighbors that I pay to help me pick stuff up but none were available and I did all of this kind of last minute. These places were just a few miles from each other and not far from my shop so the Uhaul wasnt much more expensive than the $40 I tend to give to my neighbor for help. $40 might be a bit much but I know how it feels to have a truck and people want your help all the time. I try to sweeten the deal. :)
