You guys are a class act. I don’t know too many other bluegrass groups that have your level of musicianship. Have you considered submitting an album for Grammy nomination for best bluegrass album?
@noreaction17 жыл бұрын
I strongly believe if you recorded the band in one take similar to how you do on youtube and put that kind of performance on an album you would get that grammy. If you want my honest opinion your current music on spotify doesn't have that magic touch like this youtube recording. It would make all the difference to change the recording setup to be more room mics and less close mics to avoid the hard panning and harsh frequencies and do it all in one take. The close mic and pan left or right technique takes me out of the moment

@noreaction17 жыл бұрын
Ben Tignor you have to be a member of the academy, there are different membership levels with different annual fees, but other than that anyone can submit music for consideration to be a nominee as long as it was commercially released in the United States (put out for sale).
@jeffjones25867 жыл бұрын
noreaction They are good. No, they're GREAT! Extremely talented. That being said call up some Punch Brothers videos. Or Alison Krauss. Or Postmodern Jukebox. There is a world of difference between people who do it for a living and those who do it for fun. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't let your hyperbole run. The people I mentioned are world class recording artists. These guys are amazingly talented amateurs who COULD make it a living should they choose.

Ever since I stumbled upon Josh and Carson's cover of, - " Comeback " ( Light Therapy ) - my first drop jaw intro to your amazing talents about a year or so ago, I don 't think there's been a day since then when I haven't tuned in to Josh Turner Guitar. The depth and scope of the sheer variety of different types of songs and music you excel at is simply astonishing. I can think of no others that come close, really; and at 77 years of age, a very long time music lover/fanatic, that's saying something. Here, Josh's banjo playing is awesome, and the highlight of course, BUT Carson's accompanying guitar work is no less well done. Such a pleasure to see and hear you two together...Always!!

Yep, I've actually never heard the version by The Grateful Dead -- but I've worn out that vinyl, double album of "Live at the Cellar Door," by Seldom Scene. Stumbled across Josh videos with Carson and all the other friends last month. I told my son how blown away I was with the extraordinary talent. He said “Dad, I didn’t think you liked country gospel.” Huh? So, googling Josh Turner, I found what puzzled him. NO, I mean the phenomenal musician who is so joyful and inspiring to watch and listen to. Would love to hear about your recent east coast and euro tours. When I end up in the nursing home just play some of his videos and I should pass with a smile.

Speaking as a Deadhead from the days of antiquity, I believe Jerry would have loved this because bluegrass was part of his dna. After he met Bob Weir, their first collaboration was as a jug band. If you haven't heard of it, check out the 1973 bluegrass album "Old and in the Way", featuring an all-star cast of Jerry on the banjo and vocals, Peter Rowan on guitar and vocals, Vassar Clements (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) on fiddle, and David Grisman on mandolin.

What is off-putting with this video is the realization that Josh only really dabbles in Banjo. That might not be right word, but the man's degree is in classical guitar. He is on video playing about 15 different instruments. Even his fiddle and penny whistle are modestly competent in a musical sense. Everything else is extraordinary.
