I've owned 2 scooters a Honda pcx 150 and now a Suzuki Burgman 400. The Suzuki Burgman is by far the best & most Comfortable Bike I've ever been on

Gotta say that this Burgman is so underrated... Just bought it and I'm loving it despite its lack in all the hype of TFT displays and Bluetooth connections...it's just a simple, conventional scooter for simple riders who want an affordable vehicle without all the hype...
@peter76243 жыл бұрын
Scooters are generally derided by most motorbike riders but they are really good. Try doing a journey on a normal bike and then on a maxi scooter, the scooter wins hands down. Comfort, storage, wind and rain protection are all far better than the majority of bikes. Of course they won't impress your fellow bikers, but then who cares? If you can live with the lack of "street cred" (what's that worth?) then they're a great 2 wheel solution to your transport needs. They also don't get as dirty as a normal motorbike because of all the plastic. Great practical 2 wheeled transport.

The Suzuki Bergman 400 is far smoother and has a better seating position than the j300 I owned a burgman 400 and wish I had never sold it far superior than the j300 ,bought my Kawasaki j300 in 2018 brand new on line without testing it after watching reviews on line when the bike was delivered first impression beautiful then went for a ride and found the the seat ,seating position to be very wide comfortable but not enough room for legs very cramped driving position and I am only 5,7 ruined the experience to date I have only put 1700 miles on mine

I just rode one 70 miles from the dealer to my home. I bought the missus one for her birthday and I think she will love it. I too after riding larger touring bikes was taken back with the ride and handling and wind 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 it affords. This is not your fathers scooter!!! Hehehehe it’s was a matte blue 2019 with 2500 miles on it. Picked it up for $6,199.00 dollars vs $8,400.00 for a fresh 2020. Save some bucks and used the money for riding gear and gas for trips this year. Scooter is in like new condition and received three year extension on the warranty for very little. They must know these scooters are very reliable. I think great value.

Always road Gold wings. Took a five year break went back to motorcycling. Just couldn’t justify the money for new Goldwing. So I turned two Honda 2012 silver wing I would match do any bike. Oh my Riding was long distance, had it for 23 months someone broadsided me. But 40,000 miles on it, only cost fuel / tires/ oils / Air filter. Also made one wheel trailer that I pull a lot. Now I’m looking at Bergman 400 like to go Sturgis this year again. But may save money For another boat definitely right after hurricane season

I have been riding motorscooters since 2013 as well as "real" motorbikes. I am amazed that this man rides for the first time on a scooter. They are just fantastic! I am not going back to the "real" motorbikes. I now have also a Burgman 400 and it is just great. Much lighter than his big brother 650 and easier to handle. The only thing is that you have less legroom on the 400 but the suspension is much better. Good review. And you should also try the T Max...

One can buy taller windscreens, rear luggage carrier, ABS, put cruise control on, heated hand grips etc etc. Love the Bergman 400 Alot of people young and old now love these for a good reason and wont necessarily go back to motorcycles. Some enjoy the best of both worlds. Alot of motorcyclists are pleasantly surprised when the actually ride one and let go of their prejudice.

Ice review sir. I’ve just gone from a Harley to a new one of these. All round more comfortable and effortless to ride. So funny turn up at bike meets and everyone ignores you , it doesn’t matter though as the ride is just as enjoyable. I haven’t driven a manual car for twenty years , it’s the same thing , all your attention is on the ride not concentrating on gear changes. Living in London it’s a 20mph city these are perfect and have ridden twisty 2 hours from London , it’s great on the motorway , a little bumpy on country lanes but glad a made the change. Also after the money pit of the Harley 3 years warranty is a nice relief . Great review 2 wheels are 2 wheels , mainland Europeans love them .

Did you ever get a Suzuki Burgman 400 ? I Love 💘 mine
@charlieindigo6 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed this review from a "normal" biker. I've been riding Burgman's for about 15 years and had two 650's that were a dream for cruising/touring - France Belgium, Ireland, Scotland and Wales with never a problem. Actually, I tell a lie. The worst problem I faced was on the P&O Ferry to and from Dieppe. To park your bike you have to drop the front wheel into what looks like an upturned bicycle mudguard fixed to the ferry wall. to get to it, you have to ride (or get off and push) the bike up a little ramp where it drops into this mudguard. As with most modern bikes, you can't see the front wheel, so it's guesswork to get the wheel centred. If you miss, you're off, because your feet can't reach the ground. I had to enlist the help of some fellow bikers who also had the same problem. Beyond that, the Burgman has led the way in step-through bikes, and my feeling is that not BMW or Honda really compare for value. Illness last year forced me to get rid of my last 650 - they are a very heavy bike, and I'm only a slight little fella! In its place I bought the bike you've just reviewed - well, not "that" bike, but a brand new 400. At first it was like jumping onto a moped after being spoilt by the 650, but now that I'm used to it, it is a crackin' little bike, and next week I'll be off touring the North of Ireland. Pack my usual gear under the seat, and a backpack on the pillion seat, and I'll have all I need for a week. My bike is currently giving me (on a straight run) 94mpg - a full tank (13lts) giving 140 miles on average. Following its first service (600 mls) I've had it up to 95mph with room for more! I didn't like it initially, but now I find it's absolutely great - not up to the 650 standard, but still a great little bike. My picture in the corner is me on my first 400 Burger - a very different style and weight from the new one. Now that I'm 75, I don't to a ton, although I do enjoy the occasional need for speed - very carefully though!

Cheers RidercamTV. Yes, the "step-through's" are sadly berated, but they have so much to offer that the standard motorcycle doesn't!As you say, they don't suite everyone, but they are indeed a real comfort and joy to ride, and perform well in all weathers. I'm chuffed with your review, and now I've just completed my NI trip on the Burg 400: review and clips coming up soon on my channel.

Hey RiderCTV, Thank you for the heart! Now then, I've just taken my new 400 from Carmarthen to Belfast and back, and made my very first cam video, uploaded today. No narrative as I'm not yet familiar with the techy stuff, but everything else is there - vid clips, stills, texts, map locations and music (my own). I'd be awfully chuffed if you had a look (only 15 minutes) and made any comment you like. The little bike performed well, and much to my annoyance (!!) I got to like it! It's not a 650, but held to 55-60 with no thought at all, and in the process gave me 99.9mpg! Whahey. I'm beginning to enjoy my 70's. The URL is /-5_M2vtvL0c or "New Burgman 400, Carmarthen - Belfast - return."

Passed my test on a lambretta in '68. My favourite bike was a '64 Matchless G80 that was noisy and dirty but handled like a dream. My last 'bike' was a Honda CB400T that a growing family and not enough money persuaded me to get rid of. Now I'm retired and hadn't realised how much I missed riding, so after research decided to buy a Kawasaki j300. My wife, if she ever agrees to ride pillion, would never get her leg over a "real" bike and I got a good deal from 'm&p' here in Swansea. Good article, backing up some of the things I'm finding out for myself. Anxious to get it run in but a 30year gap is making me uncharacteristically nervous when cornering. Regards to any other Cousin Jack's in financial exile.

I'm from Brazil, and I own a SYM Maxsym 400i, is pretty similar to the Burgman, but I bought the Maxsym because of he better stability with the 15 inch wheel on the front, standard abs (the Bergman doesn't have it even as optional around here), more power, with 33 hp, and the best of all, all of this costing around the equivalent a 2 thousand pounds less. I rode about 20.000km in 6 months and is all joy. Cheers.

For a point of reference I own a Burgman 650 AN Executive and I also own a Kawasaki Voyager 1700. Both are great machines and I do not suffer from penis panic as mentioned by another commenter. I have the Burgman because I want to do some long distance riding and touring as well as zip around the city. I have the Kawasaki because it is a great bike of the open road riding at 110km/h (the national limit in Australia where I live) with the 6 speed gear box the last gear being an over drive for the highway. Setting the cruise control and there is nothing better. The Burgman will do all of that but is more at home going down to the shops. Fold in mirrors on the run are great for parking and lane splitting. The 650 has a bit more grunt than I would expect from the 400 which is great for the open road and also for taking off from the lights. There is plenty of room for two both on the seat and on the footboards. The 650 has ABS brakes with two discs on the front and a single on the rear. Using both levers brings the machine to a quick stop - being a CVT there is no clutch. There is also a parking brake for when the bike is on the side stand. I say just ride what you like and go where you like and forget about the naysayers.

Nice Review of the Burgman 400. I had one for a couple months and sold it to a friend and bought a Burgman 650. I Really like the 650 with its extra horsepower. I like scooters because I have had both knees replaced and it is easier to step through vs throwing a leg over. I live in the desert of SW USA and near the mountains so riding is good. Another plus for scooters in hot weather, you don’t get heat from the engine between your legs when stopped at a stoplight on hot days. The only thing Suzuki needs to add is a electronic cruise control. Both the 400 and 650 easily cruises all legal speed limits. Safe riding...

And, yes, you got it right - step thru. I have a gimpy leg, and wear a brace - a regular bike with pegs or even boards doesn't leave much movement ability. These give you extended floorboards that allow for a variety of ways to move your legs. Definitely would recommend. (No, it's not a crotch-rocket, but it zips along just fine, thanks!)

Although I would not bother with a 400cc scooter - if I want a big scooter, I want a 'big' scooter - the styling on the 2018 400cc version is nicer than the 650cc version, which has not has a body update in a while. If only Suzuki had also updated the body on the 650, which is a bike I may buy soon (currently on a 2013 V-Strom 650 ABS, which is a superb bike). ...Edit... I guess I should always wait to the end to comment. You seem to have some sound issues with this. You could easily swap the screen for an aftermarket one; they are only about 50 quid for a fairly good long one. The bit of the bike at about 18:00 is the CVT transmission unit (rather than an automatic gearbox), which uses two pulleys and and one belt. The width of the pulleys change to keep you in optimum RPM range. A lot of bike riders reviewing scooters on KZbin are unaware of the system - naturally - and often comment that it feels as though acceleration feels like a slipping clutch. Anyway, welcome to the realm of those who enjoy both bikes and scooters. By the way - small scooters are better than they were. My 2015 Honda PCX150 is a great tool for getting across town and enough for any road here in Japan. Thanks for the vids.

I agree with the comments below. The UK in particular has a strange and childish attitude problem about decent scooters, indicative of the poor self-image and weak ego of many bikers whose fragile sense of masculinity sees every extra cc and every thrusting, sharp line of their 100 hp steeds as a penis extension. Unlike other Europeans, whose less dim-witted and more mature view sees this kind of transport as not just practical, but fun, satisfying and comfortable. Anti scooter-ism and tribalism is endemic in Britain and is reinforced by the motorcycle press and the ad material of bike manufacturers too. I wish they would grow up. Any transport that gives you pleasure is worthy of respect from others. It's a great scooter.

I came from Asia. In Asia metropolitan, scooters are much practicable than bikes. People just have to compromised to reality. If you have chance check Suzuki Burgman AN 250 (very old model already), you will be surprised by it's comfy seat and large storage capacity. Hope you can follow Burgman AN 650, it's another level than this 400 one.

I recently borrowed one of these when my bike was being serviced. I found it quite good; good acceleration & road holding. I found the suspension a little harsh over rough roads though... Very good for commuting though I would think?
@RiderCamTV6 жыл бұрын
definately a good commuter but also a good allrounder perhaps. Suspension was a little harsh, but a great bike all the same :) Ride Safe

Hello, thanks for the great videos. How would you compare the Honda 300 scooter to the burgman 400? Which one has more power etc? Thanks!

I believe alot of People especially here in th U.S. misunderstand Scooters in general, & its purpose in the MC Market. Id say for Starters a MS i a Very Different beast than your average MC . Just because they both have Two Wheels i believe most of us Subconsciously Compare them to each other . Its like Criticizing a Nissan Maxima for not having the Proformance of a Nissan GTR. They aren't the same, they both have different purposes.

Would love to see you do a review on a Tmax, its been king of the scooters since 2001, in 20 years riding and 20 bikes owned, my old mk3 tmax was my most fun, i currently have a 300 forza which is nice but the tmax actually handles like a supermoto on the twisties, trounced many sportsbikes with 5x more power on the right roads, its no wonder its the scoot of choice for scooter thieves and bank robbers in London its just a fab weapon.

Thinking about buying one of these. Bought myself a new ktm duke 790 last week for summer fun and on the better days but on your average day to get to work and back comfortably I want one of these in my garage too. Have located one and will be test riding it this Wednesday. My only worry is overtaking at motorway speeds so I'll see how she goes.
@RiderCamTV5 жыл бұрын
excellent choice and at motorway speeds, you will have no issues. This bike has got the power and more... incredible machine indeed

hey thanks this was a great review . I've been driving a Silverwing 600 for about 10 years now and i'm looking to get a new ride . i hadn't really thought of getting a smaller one but the light weight factor would be a plus , the SW600 is fine but its got a soggy suspension and is pretty heavy . i use it for committing , in town riding , and the odd weekend trip around Vancouver Island where i live , so this could be a realistic option for me . still try to get some more reviews on the two new BMWs the c400x and c400gt before i bust a move , but finding a review on them in English and one as solid as your review on the Burgman is impossible . i liked that you showed yourself on the scooter and stated how tail you are for perspective on how big the scooter is .

I used to have the Honda silverwing and I used to have the burgman 650 but they were too heavy for me as I got older now I am 69 years old now so I bought the 400 burgman it's a lighter bike it only weighs 300 in 35 lbs the burgman 400 not only that I get better gas mileage I get about 65 to 75 mph so now my back does not hurt anymore take care and be safe this is scooter Steve from KZbin I show the 400 on my KZbin channel if you like to see it take care and be safe😅😅🎉

I am looking at getting a Burgman 200. Hard to find reviews for these in general especially the 200 which seems to be the ugliest of the ugly ducklings. Everyone that rides them seems to love them though. Would be curious to know if anyone has any experience what the differences between the 200 and 400 is beyond more engine. Is there any beyond very minor things like the 200 having more storage space? If that is the case that makes researching what bike to get a lot easier for me.

Thanks for the intuative video and I liked the humour. I had to sell my classic FZR600R due to back problems. I quite fancy a scooter for my daily 45mile commute (90 miles per day). Mainly on motorways and queing traffic. Im torn between the Honda Forza 300 and the Burgy 400. Im going to look at them both next week. My big worry on the Burgy was people say its a lot more bulky and heavy. Weight wise its 30 kilos (67 pounds) heavier than my old sports bike so it will be harder to push and move into the garage and maybe not as nimble around stationary traffic. Does anyone have any thoughts/comments on this? Safe riding all.
@RiderCamTV5 жыл бұрын
thanks for the kind words buddy.the Forza would be lighter as you mentioned although in riding and maneuvering, the Burgman didnt seem as heavy as it is and was quite easy to move around... Hope this helps . ride safe :)

What's the disadvantages of having small wheels?
@Dwainpipe213 жыл бұрын
Tires wear out faster than on bigger wheels as they travel further for the same distance ! Other than that nothing really you can still hoon them around in the corners and it is easier to change direction quick as less gyroscopic effect but a little less stability although the weight is so low down on a scooter you really don't notice plus they are easy to move about in the garage or drive way
@GlenAdamson1015 жыл бұрын
I would suggest a test ride. Having now ridden one I can say they are not for me. Capable machine but does not suit me

Given the price of these the fact it doesn't have an electric adjustable screen is a bit poor and traction control, bother are available on the honda forza 350

Nice review. I own a one, and agree it is a fantastic scooter. Well balanced, comfortable riding position, great economy = all around pleasant. Suzuki wants break-in of the motor to be for the first 500 miles (804 kilometers) at under 4,000 RPM ... which you obviously didn't follow ... but that is unrealistic. Yes, 2 full-faced helmets will fit under the seat. The windscreen protects your body well, but you'll get wind around your head/helmet ... but I like that you don't look through the windscreen, so I wouldn't update to a taller screen.
