Hey, just what I needed. I"m in NY and will always be traveling with rental cars. One quick important question, I've got a perfectly fitted board bag for my board (also new). I gather from watching the video that it's better to just forget the board bag? Any further advice or guidance would be helpful. Btw, where are you guys located?
@RiderShack2 жыл бұрын
You can totally use a board bag with the soft rack. It might cause additional wind noise but as long as the straps are securely fastened you should be good to go. We are located in Los Angeles in the Venice area.

Without twisting the straps you’re likely have some wicked vibration hum to contend with.

Open car windows while doors are open. When about to close door to secure loose straps ends, you can pass your hand though to pull on strap.

This was such a thorough and helpful video, thank you! Do you think I can get these type of soft racks on my mustang, one window, and no door frame above the window, its just the window to the base of the roof... for a 8ft surfboard. Only driving about 10min to the beach, 45mph max if needed.
@RiderShack2 жыл бұрын
I'd default to what the manufacturer says for their specific rack system. The Block Surf racks that we carry just say to keep the pads at least 2ft apart for example. And I do see people quite often rolling around with soft racks on their two-door coupe.
@drewsacks2 жыл бұрын
Another question..... while out surfing, should the soft racks be put away in the car. Are they the sort of things that people tend to want to rip off basically (I'm in a good portion of NY..... I surf at Long Beach.... pretty nice area)
@RiderShack2 жыл бұрын
Most people leave them on their car while surfing.

I always put them back into my car because if they are damaged or stolen I have no way of transporting my surfboard back home

Super fast and easy. But what if your car has an antenna that sticks out? You can fix that with the double but not with the single Pads I think?
@RiderShack Жыл бұрын
Just shift the pad left or right to dodge that pesky antenna. The single soft rack doesn't have to sit in the middle of the roof.
@WildPinetree2 ай бұрын
how fast can you drive with that thing on the roof ? need to go on a highway (100-120 kmh)
@RiderShack29 күн бұрын
I try not to go over 65mph. I don't like seeing my boards flop around on the roof. I've also seen a lot of people drive well into the 70s with not a care in the world. It's really up to how confident you feel with the racks. Just keep an eye on your board through your windshield and you should figure out how fast is fast enough.

I have little plastic boat (MAC 210), weighs 30kg. Do you think this would work?
@RiderShack Жыл бұрын
I've only used this for surfboards. I think a boat would catch a lot of wind. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Hey, I see most soft roof racks are used for cars without side rails. So, I wander whether this soft roof racks are compatible with flush or raised side rails?
@RiderShack2 жыл бұрын
I have seen people use soft racks on cars with side rails out in the wild. I've never used them that way and my gut tells me that its more likely that your boards will flop around more on your roof. I'd imagine everything would be fine as long as the straps are securely fastened.

You'll want to read the instructions for the specific pads you purchase but generally you can stack up to 3 boards per pad.

If you're going to be on the road for hours I would use a cover just to keep direct sunlight off the board.

The manufacturer built this product specifically for surfboards. Maybe someone in the comments has experience with what you're asking.

will the board flop on highways?
@RiderShack2 жыл бұрын
It has the potential to at highway speeds. That's why we suggest knotting behind the buckle for extra security in the board does start to flop around. With that being said I see people on the highway with them all the time.

I would remove pads when not in use because you are cinching the straps over the rubber seals in the car door which could be damaged after a while.

I imagine you would maybe have to put the pads closer together & strap them thru the only 2 door entries, you have, as far apart as possible! I'm sure it all depends on the type of car you have.
