It's funny how stupid people are, and what I mean is: many look that lighter rotor is better(cuz it cost a lot), but actually brakes work the way that Rotor absorbs energy by heating up and it's mass, yes - mass, directly related to the temperature they get. So if you put a 50gr rotor, it'll get burned twice faster than the 100gr. Here adds up a cooling, but it's a secondary value, not primary

I am so glad they added weight. I'm 90kg, and I destroyed the last generation Ultegra. Ive switched to MTB xtr Rt-900 and it did help a lot. I think the extra 10-20 gram saving isn't worth it with safety systems. Safety systems like disc rotors should compromise a bit to be more reliable. Thanks for the video.

A few days ago I've installed Galfer wave road rotors, replacing my MT800 rotors. They are 10g lighter at each size. After few rides with also new pads, they perform perfectly, maybe even a bit better. One big difference is, after heavy breaking when they become hot, they don't start ticking like with Shimano, when you need to wait for cooling down. For me 👍 Galfer rotors.

You want more weight in your discs, gives thermal buffer, preventing overheating and therefore warping. It's physically impossible to have a disc that's ultra light that won't overheat from braking and deform eventually.

About the lock rings - the external type is more bulky and this can cause issues with some forks that have limited clearance. Usually where the fork bulges to accommodate the mounting hardware for the caliper.

@rasmuswi
@rasmuswi 2 жыл бұрын
They are an absolute pain to set up, though. The pads tend to end up within a hairs width from the rotor, which makes centering a total nightmare. But I agree that they bite like crazy, and once they are properly centered they are of course dead silent.

I am not against disc brakes in fact if I buy a new bike I would prefer one with those however I really can not find any fault with my usual rim brakes either even on long and fast descends. If you are an average rider, know what you are doing and have good pads like a pair of swissstops rim brakes are perfectly okay at least for aluminium wheels.

Looks like from the packaging these new CL 900 rotors don't come in a 180mm size. I use a 180mm up front on my road bike with the Peak Torque Adapter and a 140mm in the back. Perfect balance stopping power. Weight isn't a factor for me, performance is. I also like the MTX Red Label ceramic pads better than the Shimano pads.

(i noticed the screwdriver head on the disc pad retaining bolt) I just recently swapped out my GRX calipers for a new set of Ultegra calipers from the 12 speed groupset. My impressions are pretty useless as I’m not really a power user, definitely check GPlama and The rainmaker for all the details. All I can say is I looooooove the battery life, it’s insane how good it is taking into account all the functionality. The solar charging is a sweet bonus. I always hated the touchscreen garmins in the past but this has not given me any issues this far. I still wish they would put buttons at least for changing screens but, I’m pleasantly surprised with the touch screen. It is humongous though, and if they make a 540/840 with same battery life I would probably sell the 1040 and switch to that.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has ridden both rim and disk extensively if you end up replacing disks, rotors and pads less frequently than rims and pads. I do understand that you will stop in a shorter distance with disks, so it isn't directly comparable.

You need to replace disc parts, particularly brake pads, more often.

@@ridesofjapan heavier, more expensive and require more frequent maintenance. Got it. What a bargain!

@@devdroid9606 Slightly more maintenance maybe, but not more difficult. Hugely better braking. In all conditions. Stop hating something because you don’t own it yet.

@Dave B how long do your rotors and pads last I'm thinking of moving to disc. Also do you ever get rotor rub?
Lightest disc rotors, CarbonTi X-rotor. But watch out for fakes!
