Ridge Racer Type 4 - Dig Racing Team playthrough

Played on Dig Your Own Grave... I mean Dig Racing Team (Expert) with Lizard cars.
DIG is easily the hardest team in this game. You can't afford doing too many mistakes. It also doesn't help this team's cars don't handle so well compared to every other team.
Also sorry for skipping Grand Prix intro, but I have been having some issues with Beetle PS1 HW lately with its Vulkan render. Anyway, enjoy.

And canonically, Chrisman went to create a successful junior kart racing school that trains kids of kindergarten to middle school ages how to race so they can become future Ridge Racers, they say so in Ridge Racer 7, which I suppose makes the Dig Racing Team storyline the canon one.

If thats true, then DRT must have picked a manufacturer other than Lizard because according to Ridge Racer lore, Lizard saw little success in RRR and their failed efforts bankrupted the company. Their assets were later split by Danver and Lucky & Wild. I wonder though, if the dominant victory by Lizard in this playthrough were canon, Lizard would still be around by the present day?

@@rodracer4567 If Ridge Racer 64 were canon, It has a age solo car(seemingly Dirigeant) with DRT livery. Thus DRT may picked age solo at RRR 99.

Simplicity is the best, no need tuning and just pick a car and go out there and race. It’s what I love about this game.

Actually, the team managers of each of the teams have quite interesting personalities. Maybe that, along with the great soundtrack, is why I love this game so much, despite the fact that I don't normally play racing games much.

@@drfat Feather the throttle to maintain your RPM at about 2/3 of your total RPM below redline until the "GO!!" goes off, that's how you get a rocket start.

I only knew about a different way using manual transmission, where you mash the gas, and as soon as the cars are set free, put the transmission into 2nd.

At first i took this story deeply because i can relate to his situation when you have a boss who is a brick by caring only for his fundings disregarding the driver's skills to the trash when the driver can destroy the reputation of other drivers by becoming a legendary champion, i mean ... if i were the driver after winning the championship i would go and face that boss face to face and he'll know what's coming when i tolerated his actions far enough, i honestly thought Chrisman to be a wuss, but i was proven wrong when he stood up and retaliated against his boss which immediately sky rocketed my opinion about his personality by putting his livelihood on the line to protect the driver from being sacked ... honestly this character development is lovely to see.

No worries, the PSN release plays perfectly fine on PS3. It is a shame that Namco didn't release rest of the PS1 Ridge Racer games on PSN store, although I think the reason behind that might involve with voice samples, which were used rather liberally in those game's OSTs.

There's something about the way the game plays that feels better than newer RR games. The drifting feels like it's on rails but you don't lose control over what lines you take. It's hard to explain but it feels more dynamic. I don't know if is the physics or the track design.

I played R4 first before playing any of the Ridge Racer games for the PS1. R4 got me interested in the earlier games but I got shocked as to how crude the first 3 entries were compared to R4. They were iconic in bringing the best arcade experience on home console when they came out (Ridge Racer 1 and Reidge Racer Revolution were miles better than Daytona in the Saturn). But their content and just overall polish are extremely lacking when compared to R4. It's like a toddler in pre-school moving on to taking a PHD in 2 years time or something.

@@aguniatsumori740 Nah I've had the same problem, coming 1st every race is supposed to get you the reckless. For some reason at stage 3 I get the comrade instead of he car seen in this video despite me coming 1st every race (though some of them are close, the end screen after every race confirms I'm 1st place). Its almost like he game checks to see if you're in first BEFORE you cross he finish line.

You must finish first perfectly without fail in Heat 1 and 2 and mastered drift and grip more

Why don't you try using that team with Assoluto cars? I thought the cars were fast as ever.

I wanted to do each team's story with their own "respective" car manufacture, based on their location (I.E, Mappy team and Age cars because both are from France, R.T.S and Assoluto because both are from Italy, and so on) and given DRT is American team and Lizard comes from USA, I thought it was fitting. (Although I admit Assoluto cars are absolute beasts)

@@Raivop Just try it. In my opinion, RTS using Japanese brand for me it's good enough. Because what did I found something surprise is the car has a great acceleration and top speed when you got the Starlight and Destroyer on final GP. Also on DRT with Italian brand it's more great. Instead when you got the best car when you finished first in heat 1 and 2 perfectly, and the last race car is can hold top speed until 212 mph/340 km/h

@@StarsExcella Interesting. To be frank, and it might be me, but I never really noticed much difference between cars manufactures. (aside the grip/drift style) Seems like I was wrong though. Anyway, guess I should give DRT/Assoluto a try next time. Also as a side-note, I'm pretty happy I managed to record this playthrough in first attempt; DRT overall gave me lot of trouble back then, especially the first and last heat.

which version of the game you have? I played the European (PAL) and USA (NTSC-U) and in the european version i have the same cars , but in the USA version i think it depends not only in your positions but your race quality. I got first but received different cars too. If you struck much in the wall, and have bad control of the car the manager talks is different and you gain a different car (a less speed car model). And this happens on all teams, even if you manage to got first place. The japanese version(NTSC-J) i think is the same as the USA version. Need more tests to confirm it for certain.

Car's charactertics seems bad. The drift stop no where in the middle of the corner from Over steer to understeer in a split second... All reminds me the old times. PS 49:30 . You always use the wrong line to drift in.

Terrazi and Kamata are too separate car brands? What are you talking about? The only manufacturer here that didn't survive the transition to the PS2 era and beyond was Lizard. Terrazi and Kamata are still active manufacturers by RR7. With a bunch of Lizard's vehicles/assets being moved or now owned by manufacturers Danver and Lucky & Wild.
