RIDGE RYDER AWNING vs ADVENTURE KINGS AWNING - Unbiased comparison review
I put the Ridge Ryder 2.5 x 2.5 mtr premium awning up against my existing 4wdsupacentre Adventure Kings 2x3 mtr awning. We look at what is included, installation options and build quality. I installed both awnings on our Nissan X-trail and took it to a short camping trip to do a comparison video.

Nice review. Thorough, seems unbias but looks like Ridge Ryder is what I am going to get :) You're mention on the Pin not reaching the end, fabric and pole quality, just stood out. Thanks for the deep analysis.

Great review mate. I'm about to get an awning and was tossing up between these two exact products. The detail you showed on the "spike" on the ends of the poles was very useful, never would have thought about that. Definitely will be getting the Rydge Ryder over the Kings.

Nice review I've had king's on my old car but now I have gone through 2 due to tearing the ends like you have and snapping a end off(my own fault on the snapping poor setup) but definitely like the fact the pin goes through 2 holes and the thickness is crazy different can almost see through the king's one...January sales the new cars getting a RR looks like it will accept the king's side walls also which is a bonus.

Yeah great review but they don't sell the ridge Ryder anymore you have the XTM only and the whole overall quality is the same as king's right down to the problem were they rip the whole out of the aluminium on the end awning

This review was a bit of an eye opener. I have to wonder why Kings couldn't get the pole right to fit the second hold for the poles. Surely even the Gwongjo factory could spot the error. I'm one of those consumers that once I know something isn't right and the company doesn't bother to rectify the problem, I walk away because I wonder 'what else isn't right'? I am now ducking over to the Ridge Ryder site to check them out. Thanks again.

Yes you would wonder why they bothered putting the second hole when the tip of the pole doesn't reach it anyway. Glad my video helped you.

Great comparison mate. I notice the knuckles are different. Any issues with the plastic knuckle for the RR than the aloy king's?

@@ruggedlife just realised no one sells them anymore hahhaha. Super cheap and BCF have gone to XTM which seem very similar to the king's. What really sold me on the RR is the poles

Yes they only have XTM now. Not sure if that is different all together or just a rebrand.

@@ruggedlife I had a good look at the images and one thing that stood out was it didn't have the extended prong that you showed. Could be a rebrand but def a cut in quality. I'm pretty sure the legs don't have progs too. I've found the Nomad awning to be similar to the RR but is def more expensive. Trying to think of it's worth to pay double the price?

So for around $20 worth of mods you can improve the kings to the standard of the more expensive awning.

Great review, wish I'd seen this before buying a King, I thought Ridge Ryder and Kings would be a bout the same for entry cost awnings. Such a shame to see they've cut simple corners like that end piece of pole not having a long enough piece of metal.... so dumb.

Pretty much. I have another video comparing the Kings vs the Ridge Ryder air compressor. They are amazingly identical but the results when I tested them are way different.

What's the price of tested Ridge Rider awning? I looked it up and they're 235 -245 dollars. They have what they call Generic awning for around the 100 dollars.

Took me 2 kings awnings before I tried a ridge ryder wasted $125x2 on the kings and only paid $130 for the ridge ryder

while I do concur that that the ridge Ryder is superior it is also more then double the price. There are some tradeoffs with the kings but the price is unbeatable, really comes down to how often you intend to use it.

Correct 👌. As I would say, if your budget only allows for the Kings awning then go for it. If you can afford to spend more then the Ridge Ryder would be a step up.

Kings have some reasonable stuff but awnings aren’t one of them. Ill stick with my 15 year old gunyah which is still going strong, except for zip which failed about 6 months ago. New bag and YKK zips and it’s good to go for another 15 years.

Yes the ridge rider has some better features but when doing a direct comparison, you should really mention the fact that the Kings is half the price. Like comparing A KIA to a Mercedes... I can't see how the two main things that make the ridge ryder better are worth the 100% price difference. I'll buy a KINGS and go to a camping store buy 4x tent poll end and make a KINGS the same for about $20 more. And the KINGS comes with the wire basket brackets JMO!!!
