@@grandmacarol3073 Grandma Carol, our RV had a very comfortable, king sized air bed, it had controls for each side so you could adjust the firmness of your side. OMG, I was just drawing nearly this exact house last week! That is my dream house! They call this a "monitor" barn style house. I was planning on placing a huge wood stove smack dab in the middle of the "aisleway" between the dining and living room with ceiling fans to push the heat downward and around inside the house. I like gas cook stoves, but the drawback is they're a pain to keep clean. I planned a regular sized residential door for the laundry room outside wall so I can let dogs in and out, and during wet seasons, I could shut them in there to dry off and not run thru the house. (Laundry/mud room) If you don't do that, you'll regret it. I don't want to stick my warm stocking feet into cold boots/shoes in the winter living outside on the patio. You need a "mud" room.

Hi Tim, Plans look great, but I think I would reconsider the Laundry room. I think I would put it closer to the bedrooms instead of walking through the kitchen. You could use the space of the washer and dryer for broom closet and store vacuum cleaner, meat grinders, etc. I would definitely want a gas range instead of electric due to storms. I would put the Mircowave on the right hand side of the sink in the corner angled. Remember doorbells and outside outlets.

If you have chargeable vacuums or mops, an extra outlet for where those would be stored to charge. An outlet near the toilet area for a fancy Bidet! I would look into those microwaves that you put in a drawer in the kitchen those are really nice. How about lights under the kitchen cabinets and if the cabinets don’t go to the ceiling then have some illuminating lights above the cabinets too. They have bathroom mirrors with the lights built into the mirror if you get one of those you’ll need to put a receptacle behind the mirror so you don’t see the wires. Check those out they are pretty and it would be easy to clean lights in the bathrooms. Cabin Country Living just put a big lighted mirror in their bathroom. Make sure you get electric receptacle behind your toilets because you can get a remote toilet seat that warms up, toilet seat lifter and a rear end washer. Have you thought about maybe putting the wood stove along the outside wall of the master bedroom bathroom? If you put it along that wall you can have the long windows on each side of the double doors. I love your idea of the barndominium we are thinking of moving to TN my daughter lives in Burns, TN. My daughter moved there about 4 years ago with her VA job as a nurse and she loves it there. Stay safe🥰 God Bless🙏🏻

Gas stoves are the best! Chefs would never use electric. You can control the heat much more accurately with a gas stove. Turn the burner off and it's off. A nice gas stove with a griddle in the middle, and you will never regret it. I would also put a pop filler above it. They are so wonderful to have!

I'd add in the windows. Then place the fireplace not caty corner, but code feet away from the window, door parallel to the master bedroom. I'd move the guest bedroom door next to the guest bath wall and add in a guest toilet, delete the great room door into the guest bath. You'll likely be using the office toilet the most due to so close to the office. A guest (C'mon) would likely appreciate his own toilet while visiting 🤣 In moving guest bedroom door you'd have space to store firewood, and ash bucket under the window.

Suggestion 1. Get remote control blinds for those upper windows you wont need em often but when you do, you do. 2. (more of a question) Why have both bathrooms interior? You have more issues with moisture not having windows in your bathrooms. 3. Make sure you get a dryer with a door swing left to right not right to left (some you can change yourself some you can't) so you don't have to walk or reach across the dryer door to load it (it's a pain in the butt that people never think about). 4. (question) are you going 220 on the dryer? 5. Do a drawer microwave in the cabinet closest to the front door. 6. A coffee station right by the pantry door. 7.Outlets up on the higher section for Christmas lights (just a thought). 8. What about ceiling fans for the bedrooms? ETA. sorry it's so long

Yes 220 for dryer. Great ideas. Yes fans in bedrooms too.

Tim, good video! I really enjoyed your plans! Love the layout of the house. Behind our woodstove, we put a 4ft wide tile wall, all the way to the ceiling. Also where the woodstove sets, we have a tile insert in the floor. We built our house in 2014 in central Texas. When you build rurally in Texas there are no codes or building laws, you can build what you want. Ours is a metal building on the outside on a concrete slab. Our house is small, 24x36 because it is our retirement home. We have 2 bedrooms and 1 bath with a 10x12 added laundry room. My husband is a retired contractor so we built the whole thing inside and out with occasional help from friends. Our microwave is above the stove but I have seen the microwaves that are built into the islands so you may want to try that. Where are you going to build your carport or garage? We have a 2 car carport attached to the side of our covered front porch so we don't have to get out in the rain to get to our vehicles! Oh and we, too lived in our 5th wheel RV 36 footer while we built our house. We had already built the pad and run electricity and water to the rv site before we moved out there, so everything was ready for us.
@RidgeLife2 күн бұрын
Sounds like you have a great setup. I'll have to check out those drawer microwaves. Carport holds 4 cars and is topped with solar. it will be to left of house and shop to right and behind house.

Hi Tim, it all looks so lovely 💕..A few things you may want to consider, is *A wall and door closing off the pantry as you don't want all the laundry dust/ dirt getting on the food and extra kitchen appliances and or speciality dishes. *Next regarding the wood burning stove, smaller square, accents windows about 6 foot high. These are non functioning windows just big enough to let in more light and high enough so the heat from the stove won't bother it. *Also, if I were you, I would do a gas stove on the wall where the sink is with a microwave with built in fan over the stove and on your island, I would do a smaller electric glass top , this would give you and your future wife more counter space as the glass top I have used as another work surface and would give you two options and would help out for entertaining or filming cooking somthing

❤Nice. One question are you going to have a hood above your stove or the kind that sucks the smoke down. Thats what my husband had install in our home in Vt. Next you could put your microwave underneath your cabinets in the center island. They do this in a lot of your modern homes. You dont need a switch for the microwave only a plug in. You could put the microwave in the pantry. You will need a switch for the dishwasher and garbage disposal. I think another door might be a good ideal for escape purposes. Plus you could use that side entrance for hauling in your groceries disposing of garbage etc. I would not want to be hauling out garbage through the front door or all the way to the back. Just a thought. 😎🏝️✌️👍💯

Great room: I was wondering if you had thought about the entry and exit doors in the great room being opposite to each other, so wealth is coming in and straight out the door opposite. I noticed the laundry room is a great size but it doesn’t indicate a large linen cupboard. You do have a fairly large linen cupboard in your master bath and I’m wondering why you’re compromising that space just my thoughts. Two wonderful large his in her closets fabulous! One of the porches with what looks a huge flat roof on top, for a moment I thought it was like an upstairs balcony, I was wondering if you could make it so and have like a spiral staircase going to it as a lookout area, would be beautiful looking above into the trees from there, just a thought. Could that be a pocket door from your office to the master bedroom just to give you more floor space? I’m sure you’ve enquired for the cost difference in having all internal doors as pocket doors and Is there a difference in the cost factor? Anyway these are just my thoughts at the end of the day. It’s a beautiful house which is going to be a beautiful home for you and one day a significant other. With the wood heater would you consider putting it against one of the walls in the middle of the great room so that it can bounce heat of the opposite wall and go into the surrounding rooms rather than have to travel the full length of the great room to the other length to the other side and also into the other rooms with the doors open just my thoughts. Can’t wait to see all this getting started. Cheers Tim, enjoy. 🙏

Where are you putting your water heater and HVAC? Also you'll need exhaust fans in bathrooms.
@RidgeLife2 күн бұрын
All of it outside the house. Yes on the fans for sure.

Only thing i would do is move the door into the master bedroom to the other end.

To me, that would block where the couch can be. But I feel ya.

@RidgeLife I was thinking more along the lines of could switch the placement of the bed if wanted to latter. I like to rearrange the furniture.

@RidgeLife i would ask wherever your getting your counter tops to put your kitchen into a cad program to show your kitchen in 3d you will be so surprised how it looks. Its getting exciting for your build. I'm sure you wished it was done but I want to see every step. I love how followers can come along for the ride. Congrats on retirement too. Your going to he working harder than you did working but so rewarding . Great video

@RidgeLife it will save you alot of time and money in the end. I convinced my sister to do that when she changed her bar height counter. She was shocked but it saved her money. You could do the whole house room by room in 3d and see it before you spend. If you can do on a budget bit still get a beautiful look why not. Even looking for remnants if your using stone for counter tops and showers etc. Be surprised the money you can save. It's just a suggestion. Have a great night .

I think with the French doors I wouldn’t add extra windows on that wall

Tim your ocd, will drive you crazy with the bedroom doors not placed with clean lines. Go propane on your stove and fireplace. Its perfect for cooking, i have propane to both so in times when eletric is not working, i can still cook and heat my home.

Make sure there is electric in your Island. You can buy microwaves that fit into your Island and they open like a drawer.
