Non plumber here -- but I love these jobs, I learn so much... The grease bergs and grease- icicles along the top of that pipe is mandatory watching for all family members. I can hear my dearly departed Dad saying "don't put that stuff down the drain."

Reading the comments and laughing at all the "I'd use My drum machine" which take up at least 35% of your work vans space not to mention they're heavy. These sectional machine are 100% more modular take up less space and most importantly LIGHTER. The 5208 is light years ahead of the K60 and less cumbersome than the K1500. Nice work Chuck!!!!

Chuck, I am a Self emoloyed plumbing in Buffalo NY. (ALL-, PHASE PLUMBING, HEATING, SEWER and DRAIN CLEANING). To me its better than being a SENATOR 🤔🤔! Anyways I just purchased a Ridgid "K--,1500" the K-7500 is TOO HEAVY for me to go up and down the stairs Alone (just turned 50 in Sept) anyways I think I should have went with the machine you got I like the versatility. For me to go from 1and 1/4, cable to 7/8 cable I have to change the Jaws. I'm hurt with my back the last few weeks and I'm going Crazy staying home. My apprentice is doing the jobs he can do Wich is most of them. Thanks for the videos. I must be Crazy 😜, I have been in the Plumbing profession since I was 17 and 34 years later I watch Plumbing videos in my Free time 🤔🤔🤔

Your drain cleaning videos are getting me closer to buying one. I’ve got the Milwaukee 1/4” drum, an old rental machine with a 50’ x 3/4” cable and that’s it. Now I’m picking up a trailer park for plumbing maintenance and I’m thinking about putting money into my pocket vs the sewer only guy. It’s common for my area for plumbers not to do this. My only limitation is that the machine I have is so heavy. This looks like a solution. Thanks Chuck for another great video! I think I’m sold.

A k60 is more than enough torque! You can run a cheaper 3/8" Steel dragon sectional for 1 1/2" to 2" drains, and a Rigid 7/8" cable for 3" to 4" mains

Try using a Rigid Flex shaft. Have to have a good Cordless Driver with 9am battery. The flex shaft are a bit expensive but like any Ridgid last and works exceptionally. The “chain knockers are unusual at first but easy to work with. Bought a Rridgid Flex 201. Amazon, payed for it in two jochst….

Hey Chuck, nice new and very sturdy looking machine! It looks like a more modern version of your other sewer machine. I know you'll have fun with it and your new camera too. I just found another drain cleaner you tube channel called Drain HQ. He cleans drains in New Zealand using snakes, a flex shaft, and a jetting machine. The plumbing there (especially the gully traps) look similar to but not exactly the same as plumbing in Australia. He explains the function of the plumbing system components in some of his videos. I've always loved looking at plumbing and drains/sewers and it's especially interesting to see the differences of how it's done in other countries. An interesting fact I learned: Melbourne's Western Sewage Treatment Plant is the largest in the world. It's lagoon treatment ponds covers more area than any other treatment plant in the world by far. Melbourne has been treating it's sewage there since 1897. It is not the largest by treatment capacity though. I think the Montreal, Quebec plant has the largest treatment capacity in the world.

hi chuck 38 yrs as a plumber for grease use the spade cutter 1st then the C cutter to clean all round the pipe then i use a bath or tub of water and all the pans to flush the line

Enjoy ur videos Chuck. Couple things that may help in the future. When you put the cables back in the cradle reconnect them, then when you have to pull them out on the next job you won’t have to reach into the cradle to find the next cable. Also I put the ball on my camera head closer to the lens. Maybe 2” back. Not in the middle where you had it, which could cause the lens to dip as you push. Of course experience is the best teacher so snake on.

I'm using the K60SP with a 3/8" and 7/8" cable. It's the only logical option for me when cabling through a roof vent. Try carrying a drum machine up a ladder ( and yes, I've carried a Gorlitz medium machine up a ladder many times) ! One caveat, it's not fun pulling the 7/8" cable out of the vent when running over 75". Right now in Phoenix, the weather is a beautiful sunny 70deg. But doing this in the summer heat on a roof is a nightmare! I've also managed to use a large drum machine (Gorlitz) by laying it on it's back on the ground and running the cable up and through a rung on an extension ladder over the roof.

The company i m working for has jetters, 1 carried in truck, 2 trailers for underground. To be honest, if you don't have enough commercial, industrial, or apartment customers, just hire a company with jetters, and bill ur customers for ×1.5 or ×2. Many plumbing companies doing that. Jetter is cool and much powerful than snake for sure, but, it's not a daily used plumbing machine. It ll cost you more than you know.

I use the flex also have the K60. But the is a flex shaft that Sweden makes that is better and doesn't cost as much same type knocker heads. But has one that looks like/ reminds me of.. the old chain steering wheels that were in cars.. look up plumbing tools/ drill flex shaft.

flex shaft that grease set your chains to the diameter of the pipe. You might not have the right size flex shaft. I have the 3/8 I use for mains but moving up to half-inch this week.

Sometimes when the city sewer is running at half tide it can plug at the connection , depends on the elevation and where it connects to the main. Top part at 45% OK side not so much . I've seen some weard things in my day. No inspectors the wild wild west.

This is my favorite drain snake machine, I also like the Electric ELL, but only draw back to that machine is it is so dam heavy, getting it into place especially basements is like wrestling a grizzly bear, I am too dam old for that stuff anymore to be wrestling these machines up and down the stairs. I do like the ELL the best for long runs over 50 feet because it’s cable has a center cable (2part cable) so its almost impossible to break, as oppose to the rigid which just has the one piece spring cable.

@@r4h_ yup, they are heavy, but when you have to snake a long run like 150ft you want that heavy duty cable, last thing you want to do is break one of them in the main line, then you be out there bustin you but digging it up, and trust me, that sucks.

I have replaced about 20 or so of these lines, but its hard to get the homeowners to spend 4k on a new sewer system, so they pay me every year to come snake the sewers for roots, bit thats ok, I'll go there every year to snake the main line, easy 200 bucks.

Cool video i'M not a plumber but its amazing to me how far the tools of the trade have come. I HAVE A QUESTION: Have a toilet that is loose it is cast iron pipe with the lead thing at the top the last time i had it fixed the plumber said the lead was split broke or something. This is in a basement house built in 1960 open ceiling can see pipes can this be fixed without having to replace the cast iron pipe? If so what is the best way to have it fixed?

Hey chuck Warthog nozzles by stoneage will make any jetter work like a beast. We have owned 3 USjets and they are awsome. They even sale conversion kitsch for other jets like mongoose etc. Check out the WWETT trade show in indianapolis. Its swap meet for all of us terd herders lol. And u get go deals at the show. Everyone who makes any kind of machine/camera/jet etc will be there. It's like disney for us.

Chuck Barron I run a Rooterman company in CT. We have 2 Harben jets . 1 trailer and 1 truck mounted they are older. The new jets are 50k . I’m looking at small van packs in the 8k range now from Mytana . They are small fit in a van and a quarter of the price they don’t pack the same punch but should work . From what I can see, the pipe has a lack of grade or a "belly". When the grease cools down, it solidifies, then when it reaches this belly the solids (grease) slows down and gets stuck in this section which, over time, has caused your friend a grease blockage. The best way to clear the grease is with a hydrojetter. Snake won't help, no matter what cutter you use. You might have some luck with the flexshaft. I would def give that a try, I've never personally used one before. Looks like the city recently installed that clean out by the curb. I know exactly what happened, I see this all the time. When the city installed their clean out, they plumbed it in to high which caused the belly. They (or you) need to replace the clean out but plumb the new one in lower. That will fix the belly.

I had the same problem recently, check if they are going into the stack with a double wye fitting. We had to repipe one of the toilets so that it was going into the stack lower than the other. Hope this helps.

No, Chuck had it in the right position, its called a Lazy Susan & you feed the coils in from the front, but usually only one coil at a time so the coil is not hanging out the rear guide hose wiping about.

@@jstu45 Fair enough, it can be used either end if you want, but Ridgid intended that it would be typically used at the front of the machine just off to the side so that the operator doesn't need to go back & forth to the cable guide several feet back to spool the cables in & out of the lazy susan cable carrier.

You got the skid! Nice. You want to position the skid all the way at the front of the spring, closer to the camera head. That way it thoroughly props the camera head up and out of the gunk. The skid will also help if you ever need to get a different camera angle. For example, if the camera is positioned in a way that is making it hard to see the top of pipe, give an ever so slightly tug backwards, and it will tilt/angle the camera lense upwards so you can see the top of pipe. Vice versa to angle the lense forward to get better visual of the bottom of pipe. Hope that makes sense. Plumb on brotha! PS. If you're going to buy a jetter, DEF buy US Jetter. PSS. I'm currently looking for a new employer. Wish you were in California! Sad face.

What type of drum machine do you use on 2-6 drains? I’m 57 and starting a plumbing company. I’m trying to purchase the lightest, simplest way of dealing with drain cleaning. I have two Ridgid drain guns and a kinetic ram and two drain cameras. (Large and small) but I need a machine for 2-6. I was also going to buy a Ridgid Flex Shaft, but not sure what size to buy. I also have a 4018 USJetter trailer unit. 😁 if you can give any tips on what an older guy could use please share. I have about 8-10 k to spend on drain tools.

I have general 90 and lil drum. ridgid K1500 and 5208 for sectionals, ridgid k-50, ridgid flex 109 and 209. The No jet yet. as far as recommending. man. Im not sure. maybe call rep...I have nothing for 6-8" except what i own now. Can anyone help out John A??

Bro, you should really set up the machine closer to the drain. You have too much shaft out between the drain and the driver. If it gets caught up you would be surprised how fast it can wind up and spring back at you. Its pretty dangerous. Seen some guys get smacked pretty hard doing it similar to how you were doing it. Stay safe.

He knows what he’s doing. He’s using his left hand to secure that cable. When that cable binds you’ll hear that machine struggle. He’ll also feel that tension in the cable while he’s holding it. His face isn’t that close to the cable. He’s aware of the type of sewer he’s snaking and weather or not he’ll hit any areas it could bind.

i hate those heavy drum machines-the very idea of that they are better especially with cable strength and ability to only use the amount of snake you need. if your using a drum machine or 3 they take the whole van up... i'd say your doing it wrong. and yes I am a licensed plumber of 30years. sectional only way to go. Ill tell ya though what we can agree on is the wonderful invention of the "Camera" system. it saves so much of the hard work we use to do when they didnt exist.
