The Dreamcast is just a legendary system that was sadly screwed by history and pure chance. It helped to open the way to so much that has become standards in consoles and modern gaming.
@johnny2x484
@johnny2x484 5 жыл бұрын
I think what continues to annoy me most is there's no where to purchase so many of those games to this day. I mean GameCube and Wii got a few, PSP got the Power Stone Collection and I think some other ones and of course various Sega games went to the original Xbox. But so many great games have not been brought into the modern era with an HD remaster or a port of any kind. The switch is absolutely fertile ground for this and yet it lies fallow.
@kellinwinslow1988
@kellinwinslow1988 5 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying but it wasn't really chance that doomed the DC. Sega made too many mistakes with things like the 32x,the Saturn etc. By the time they got it right with the DC they were hemorrhaging money and it was all or nothing for them by that point. Putting a DVD player in it would have helped but it might have been too much for them in 98'. There just weren't enough Sega fans left to make a difference. I played it nonstop till 2002 but the PS2 pretty much crushed everything under it's iron boot and Sega relied too much on its arcade games which weren't selling in the U.S. Pity but much like Nintendo with the N64,they dug their own grave and laid down in it.
@Dash120z
@Dash120z 5 жыл бұрын
@@kellinwinslow1988 at least Nintendo didn't die after the N64, Sega should have never gave up on the Saturn so soon, that pissed a lot of Sega fans that moved over to the PlayStation.
@kellinwinslow1988
@kellinwinslow1988 5 жыл бұрын
@@Dash120z I agree with you since I loved the Saturn. I supported it right up till the bitter end. Enemy zero and Magic Knight Rayearth were my last games. However Sega was in a no win situation. The Saturn was dead in North America but it was still going in Japan. If they kept the Saturn going it would have struggled on in Japan but they would have lost any chance of doing anything over here. It was lose lose. For them it was the last chance but Nintendo could suffer through the failure of the N64 and the GameCube since they had more money than Sega and owed no one anything. Microsoft was the same way with the Xbox. Sega really had no good choices.

@@brondabailey1 Yep I'm old enough to remember the days when that was a legitimate thing before SD cards came in and pretty much completely stole their Thunder. The Dreamcast really does perfectly exemplify 1999 and the early 2000's technologically speaking. Though the fact you could actually get online and browse the internet and such on the Dreamcast was huge. I mean the thing even got a High Speed DSL version of its modem that was only ever released in Japan.

And many with even slight upgrading look way better. So many games on Dreamcast deserve an HD remaster / re-release. A number of games have been dribbled out across multiple portable consoles and mostly Nintendo consoles. the fact in 2019 there is no where to get a Dreamcast collection of any kind at most there's about 40 truly great games on the Dreamcast not including great import games too. Definitely looking forward to the VMU episode. It always looked like the most intriguing aspect of the Dreamcast and I just love your stuff ^^

There should definitely be a side-tournament at EVO for the Soul Cal fishing rod...........maybe call it 'On-Reel Tournament'.

Being able to control Mr. Driller using voice instead of button presses reminds me of the ol' Konami Laser Scope on NES. "FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!"

No love for the dual joystick for Oratio Tangram? That fishing pole and those Sega fishing games were so much fun!

Soul Calibur's fishing rod functionality seems like the type of thing that either one guy or a small group of people worked on in secret just to say "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if...", and then they never bothered to tell their bosses because it's pretty easy to hide (unlike GoldenEye's multiplayer). It would certainly explain why this feature was never advertised.

The best part about the Dreamcast is that it truly never died. The fact Sega didn't put an anti-piracy chip inside it means you can literally burn or bootleg any game you want for it. I remember back in the day an entire community existed for creating beat 'em ups for the Dreamcast using Open Beats of Rage with steps for how to burn the games onto a disc to play on it. I had a really fun fan-made version of Battletoads on there because of it. So many great memories of the console as a whole. We bought one for my dad at first, then my brother got his own, and as time passed and they started becoming more obscure, we bought another one from a yard sale "just in case one of them dies" and the used one we bought didn't run as well as the two we'd already owned. Unfortunately my brother took most of our collection when he moved out, which included a lot of great fighting games (such as the elusive Power Stone 1 and 2) and Mr. Driller, so my available games I can play for it are limited. But I still have my own hooked up ready to use any time.

Remember how huge fishing controller games were back in the late 90s? Ones that didn't even need consoles, they just came with little LCDs on the fishing rod controller itself! lmao you did the exact same thing I did to get a complete copy of Seaman in the late 00s too! And damn, I had no idea how awesome Mr Driller was!

Namco was determined that, no matter what sort of stupid situation you were in, you _WERE_ going to play Mr. Driller. No controller but a keyboard? Mr. Driller. Only have a working fishing rod controller? Mr. Driller. Mr. Driller is inevitable.
