@ yeah they had a bunch of picks for a while so if they drafted really really good they could have had a quicker rebuild, though they got drai nuge mcdavid and some others during then so it wasnt that bad

The Stars are absolutely poised to be the best in the league soon. Robo, Hintz, Heiskanen, Oettinger, Harley (I count him too), and Stankoven are all 25 or under, this core is young and still has room to grow as the vets age out. Plus so many of these guys are homegrown talent, so their front office has been doing something right.

This stars team could have had multiple cups right now while still being completely set up for the future. They have to be one of the most interesting and well built teams I’ve ever seen. I mean when one guy goes another can rise to the occasion in a flash. Look at how Johnston has come in for Pavelski and even Stankoven. They have vets that still got it, players entering or playing in their prime in Robo and Hintz and young guys that can be the new face of the team if needed

Duchene has been has great pickup - it helps the Stars to have a nice balance between youth and experience - the team does not crater when 1 of their young guns struggles like Johnston has early in the year and he has a chance to regain the form with the fans not on his back since they are still winning thanks to guys like Duchene

I mean imo the Pens problem should be obvious but a lot of people just throw names around; our defense is terrible LOL. I'll notice when Im watching games announcers will often say smth like "oh the Pens defense has been pretty good since x" (there always has to be some problem that theyve seemingly recovered from this game because the defense hasnt played a full 60 in years) and like 85% of the time its just because after whatever meltdown previously happened, the penguins have been in the other teams zone. Its so funny to me how often that happens. Against detriot today it happened and I remeber against the ducks a couple weeks ago the same thing happened. They only ever say that when we're facing non playoff teams tho cause real offense shreds the current Pens defense. and just to be clear our defense is a liability in both zones. We dont lead the league in odd man rushes against for nothing, the blue line guys make risky passes a lot and it leads to those odd man rushes and breakaways way too often. Youll hear a lot about the "self inflicted wounds" when people talk about the Pens problems, that a major symptom of anemic defense.

The stars haven't been the offensive juggernaught stars fans expect them to be. NHL fans like to think that the stars are some type of defensive structural team, but their real calling is offensive, not defense. My biggest concern about the stars right now are their skating speed, probably one of the slowest teams in the entire league right now.
