Riding 1934 "boat tram" Muni streetcar no. 233 - San Francisco Muni Heritage Weekend 2015 Part 2

A ride on Muni #boattram number 233, built in 1934 for use in Blackpool, England, but now traveling along the Muni tracks in San Francisco on special occasions, such as this Muni Heritage Weekend.
The trip goes from the SF Railway Museum on Steuart Street, along The Embarcadero, up to Pier 39, and then back, passing a few other historic street cars along the way.
Muni has two of the twelve boat trams that were built for the English seaside resort city of Blackpool in 1934, and both of them were out as we passed the other one, number 228 while riding in number 233.

I rode on this a few years ago when it ran at its last home in England: Beamish museum. There were a lot of sour faces when it was announced 233 was going to America, but I am glad to see it is being looked after very well and it seems to be very popular!

I once had the chance to ride this past the Castro and through the Twin Peaks Tunnel out to the avenues. I forget the exact occasion, but it probably was a special run for trolley fans on a Sunday. It was spooky going through the tunnel, without a ceiling. The spark flashes from the trolley pole were worth it alone! I wondered later if there could have been bats or nests in the tunnel, but it didn’t stop anyone from having a good time.

When I was about 10 years old I rode this tram in Beamish museum, and the driver let me have a go driving it!! I’ll never forget.

@@k.h.4698 Fleetwood is in the uk. These two particular trams are from Blackpool , North West England. Very famous trams that would go up and down the promenade. If you look closely it says pleasure beach, sth promenade on one side and Tour of the illuminations on the other name card. The illuminations are on the Golden Mile of blackpool which consists of millions of lights lining the mile. I was there just last night

I wonder how the driver operates this tram. Lots of handle shifting but it doesn't make any sense to me :-)

The controller in their left hand is the power controller made by English Electric Corporation. These run by each click to the left allows more electricity through to the motors which then makes it go faster. The handle in their right hand is the air brakes. If you're American, can I ask how the same but for the American trams.

Wouldn't git under the overhead...the original tower was cut down on the Boats
