My uncle got screamed at by Val for putting his hand out the cable car. Val screamed, “What part…of leaning in..do you NOT UNDERSTAND?” That was the funniest moment of my trip to San Francisco, but we never got him on camera. This video shows it all! Thank you for this incredible footage.

I love how all of you "people" seem to think that acting like an idiot, putting your health and safety and others at risk for the sake of some stupid photo is all just a big lark. I have never been to San Francisco, but I would love to ride the cable car. Love to see that crooked street and those hills. The closest was riding trolley cars in Philadelphia.

I love it. Yes!! Val, Mr. Perfect and Willa, and Cassandra. Y’all keep doing what y’all do; you and the entire cable car fleet from the grip, conductor, turn table, tower, to mechanics and cable machinery and anyone else that has a hand in keeping history running daily. I’m intrigued. ❤️

Great video,....Sure they don't go everywhere and aren't super fast. But to keep an antique vehicle running and safe, for the whole world to enjoy, makes it worth it. Like many other's I only knew of the Cable Cars from the Rice-a-Roni commercials. I'm 70 now, but when I was in my 30s, my wife and I visited SF in 1988 and 1989. We made sure we took the Cable Cars, often. Hey, if some city had autos from 1910, still available to rent or lease,...I'd be first in line, to drive them around. If you love old machinery, old cars, antiques, early inventions,...the Cable Cars are perfect.

Hello. Looking for some advice. Never been to San Fran. Mostly there to board the Amtrak California Zephyr to Chicago over by Oakland but spending a half day across the bridge in San Fran. The San Fran plan is short because we dont have a lot of time. Trolley Car, Lombard, Alcatraz. lol The plan is to take Cab to Trolley car, Trolley Car to Lombard. Walk down Lombard. Walk to Pier for Alcatraz tour. Cab back to hotel near Oakland. (Gotta get up early for Amtrak the following morning) I got the walk part down from Lombard, but never done a trolley car. Flying into Oakland, cab to nearby hotel, Cab across the bridge. Would I be correct in that I should have the cab drop us off near Union Square to buy a Hyde line ticket to get to the top end of Lombard?

It seems to me that hanging on to a grip while the car is moving would not be safe for obvious reasons. I'm surprised it is allowed.
