A good friend just got this bike recently in excellent shape. Definitely a blast to ride and completely different to anything you can buy today new.

Thanks for sharing. Owned an '89 Honda 'CB-1' 400 as my very first brand new bike. It was the 'Naked' early version of the machine shown, and only imported to the states for '89-'90. Blue, with Silver Wheels, etc. Silver Honda Tank Wings. Brilliant little machine, when I was 100 lbs lighter. :( But, that astronomical Red Line and velvety run up through the gears took me right back to the day. Thanks again! / Brakelate /

I'm glad you liked it. You can really feel how fast you're going with these bikes, they're fun at relatively low speeds.

Awesome! This bike and the CB1 are two of my all time favorite motorcycles. I love that they are both premium super sport bikes with all the bells and whistles of larger displacement bikes. 400cc's, 4 cylinders and 50+ HP on a bike that weighs in under 400 pounds with a howling redline!!!!! What else could someone want???? I looked at what was supposed to a CB1 last year, but it was really just a box of parts with a frame and what appeared to be a seized motor. I needed a bike that I could ride everyday for commuting and fun so I got an R3. I like the R3, but it didn't scratch the itch for a 400 super sport. I don't need a "big" bike, but I really want 50+ HP and premium parts. I wish one of the "big 4" would bring something like that to the states... I'm new here BTW, found you from Duke of DC.

Thanks! I agree, this bike was an absolute blast to ride. I have another video that I'm following to owner in some twisty roads and at some point I'm struggling to keep up on the 1000cc. Small and light bikes are the way to go! I love mine for the technology, power, and because it does great with a passenger, but if you don't have to carry a passenger definitely get something like this. One of my favorite riders on KZbin is Schaaf, he's got a 1994 Honda CB500 PC26 and he rides the crap out of it!

Can you think of any "current" bikes, like last 10 years, available in the states that are 500 cc's or less. Have premium parts, fuel injected, make at least 50 HP, weigh under 400 pounds and are super sports or sporty naked's? It's a really short, everyone sold "big" bikes during that period, or almost no bikes during the recession. The problem with the 90's bikes is they are all 20-ish years old now. I've looked at several and they were a total restoration job, full motor rebuild kind of thing. The other thing is I really don't want to go back to a carb, been there done that several times. I ride year round and FI is just so much better during Ohio winters.

Yup. Very same reason I still have my Suzuki DR-Z400SM. You can ride it around WOT and not even get noticed. Tops out right at 100 mph, with LOTS of room and tuck. My damned BMW K1300S is Busa Smooth and speed sneaks up on you. My KTM 1290 Super Duke R almost got me arrested yesterday, for the exact same reason. I was trying 'freeway speed cruising / roll on testing" in 4th & 5th, as I have a new -1T C/S Sprocket I am considering installing. Even just rolling into it in the deep O/D 6th I went from legal to 'double the limit' in the blink of an eye. Small bikes are great. Anyone can pin a throttle. What you get on any 400, you EARN! / Brakelate /

I think the DR-Z400SM will be my next bike man... I want one pretty bad.

Is there a reason you were using the clutch to change up like a faulty gearbox or was it just smoothness?

About to get one in a couple of weeks. do you have any advice or feed back to someone who is 6'3-6'4? i did take one out for a quick spin but didn't really concentrate on the size ect at the time.

I presume the Nastro Azzuro Rossi paint scheme was done as an aftermarket modification, right? Since Rossi didn't even enter the world stage until '96, and he was in those colours in I think 2000 and 2001.

Not sure, I would have to ask the owner. Aftermarket or not, it looks great! :)

On that we agree, it looks magnificent.

How tall are you? I am 6'3-6'4 about to get one in a couple of weeks. I took it out for a quick test drive and at the time didn't really think about the size while riding. do you find yourself uncomfortable or have any feed back for someone my size riding one?
@CubanRider7 жыл бұрын
I'm at 5'10", so much shorter, but the bike felt okay. I could imagine a taller person might feel cramped after a while.

I'm 6foot 2 in cm.. I had my NC29 for 15 years.. did 2000km in 3 days once, it was hard but possible, and fucking fun.. but 2 inches more I'm not sure I would haev enjoyed it as much
