Your horses are well-trained. 👍 You've done very well with them. I loved watching Sally's and Mable's ears when you were riding them. You really covered some ground, on Mable, there at the end!

I've ridden both draft and non draft. I really enjoyed the draft, Judy, because she seemed so safe, but I didn't own her, so I was only able to ride once. My dream is to own a horse and another GSD but money is tight and living on the East Coast is expensive when it comes to horses. I'm happy for you to have this opportunity. 🤗🙋🏼♀️

I have riden both draft once & i have my own Thoroughbred & Quarter horses I do prefer to ride my Thoroughbred much better I feel like draft horses seem to big & much more slower they do maneuver differently a bit but they are very beautiful horses 🐎 you're ride with Sally was a great fun ride enjoyed riding along with ya ! 💪🤍🐎

What an amazing experience it must be to ride a draft horse! It will be difficult to go back to a normal riding horse. Haha What great horsemanship at your age or any age!

@@drafthorseswithalexa you have wonderful horses. But to avoid the horse from running to fast home you must let her do some work from the saddle and the let her "rest" away from home. Now you do teach her that a quick run home will grant her the reward of resting, which can cause dangerous riding for you.

@@drafthorseswithalexa thanks for your response. When I said "work under the saddle" there are good training tips of the princip how to make the riding home more safe, no matter the breed of horse For example Warwick Schiller how to train for trail. Greetings marie

Thank you for sharing. This brought back memories for me. I did ride Quarter and Draft. We had both. I didn't mind either. The draft was my go to ride. But at the end of the day it didnt matter witch. The ride just made it a Amazing day to ride. The snowy days made it all that more special. Please I hope you will show more riding videos. And maybe a tack video you may have? Not trying to get nosy here. Just asking..
@drafthorseswithalexa9 ай бұрын
Will do our best to get some more riding ones out there - and yes we are due to show our tack shed/saddles and driving harnesses etc along with all of the other horse-drawn equipment we have around...likely wait for spring though, some of that equipment is buried right now!

@drafthorseswithalexa9 ай бұрын
No - they all have their unique attributes!
@klauskarbaumer63029 ай бұрын
Just don't let Mable slip and fall during the gallop. Your pigs seem to rather spread out in the forest. Are there any predators to be afraid of?
@drafthorseswithalexa9 ай бұрын
We do have wolves and black bears, but never any issue - our large black breeding boar is 800+ pounds (with some mighty tusks), sows are 600+ and both tend to deter anything that comes within scent range, despite being prey animals themselves (pigs). We also have 2 Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs, and the German Shepherds will be on full duty by this fall.
@klauskarbaumer63029 ай бұрын
Now that sounds reassuring. Unfortunately we do have a problem here with raptors ( hawks and bald eagles) who killed many of our free-ranging hens and our con-hound even though a good watch dog is allowed to spend a lot of time in the house.@@drafthorseswithalexa

That sounds reassuring. Unfortunately we do have problems with raptors ( hawks and bald eagles) which prey on our free-ranging hens and have killed many of them. Our coon hound, though a good watchdog, spends a lot of time with us in the house and therefore can not always prevent the attacks. We had a problem with racoons and coyotes, too, but solved that with playing radio NPR) 24/7 in the coops. It has been a long time that I rode my horses, but now old age (77) and a bad hip and knee keep me from riding my gentle giants. I loved riding, but always felt that communicating with the horses from the end of long lines and/or by voice only demanded more horsemanship and therefore was more satisfying to me. I had warmbloods, too, but was surprised that draft horses had very gentle gaits.@@drafthorseswithalexa

I’ve only ridden non-draft horses, but have always wanted to ride a draft because they’re so big and tall, yet usually well-mannered and easy going. Love the gentle giants! ❤Seems as though your drafts have adapted well to being under saddle. Great job! Thank you for sharing, as always.
