Ah yes, coastal regions can do that, italys landmass is relatively thin and yet surrounded by water. Hence a lot of the climate is semi arid, warm and coastal. Although fun fact: That didn´t always used to be the case, a long time ago Italy was mostly a region of humid swamps 😯 Nowadays since like a few thousand years it has become semi-arid, the swamps mostly dried up and so did the humidity reside too... Same can be said about North Africa that once was semi-arid and is now dry.... There was some fundamental change in climate in that region the past thousands of years. Possibly also due to human intervention(at least in case of Italy that is). However in case of North Africa... There are some very interesting theories as to why that happened to become the dessert it is today. From tectonic and massive water reserves that are below the surface(and can technicaly, under right tectonic conditions, re-emerge again...) to the fact that actualy, todays North Africa was created by a massive asteroid that burned/exploded before hitting the earths surface.... Thing is: Where did all the sand come from? That asteroid theory sufficiently explains it. Until recently it was mostly dismissed however, as many could not and did not believe that an asteroid or comet can even explode before hitting the surface. However, we recently saw *exactly that happen on Mars!* So we now know, while rare, it *is* possible. Personaly I tend to the asteroid theory for two or three reasons: 1: The sand, like said where did it come from? Burned earth turns into glass like structures... have you looked at what sand is? Yup, basicaly tiny, smooth(not sharp) glass like structures. 2: The tectonic theory does seem, to me, a bit far fetched. Even if the water emerges again.... Ehem, *how* is it gonna be held in place? Water tends to run down sand, down the deepest soils and that´s it... it would *not* be held in place. 3: I am not a religous person, however suddenly those "hellfire events" described by many cultures in that region do make sense. Such an event *would* quite literaly have been a hell on earth for the people living through it, with few survivors(and an permanently altered landscape and climate...) but indeed lots of mystical tales to tell... The explosion and fire would have been *massive* beyond a scale most even modern humans cannot imagine with our nukes.

Glad you stayed overnight in that small Italian hamlet to enjoy the Italian culture and food and Italian beer. The ferry ride seemed like a real European experience. It was huge! Rain must be normal in that Mediterranean climate! Our family is watching this video and enjoying each moment! We hope to tour this year on our recumbent trikes this year! Keep up the great work! Wow perfect clear weather. When it's hot it can be hazy and you hardly see the other side. I think 4:43 is the most epic shot because of the bike path. Wasn't there yet for me. I took the ferry. And I'm always surprised how much nerves you have to fly the drone at places with lots of 'Carolinas' around.

Sad story - my friend died on that lake, he tried to swim to a island and halfway had a heart attack. His sister was behind him and tried to help but he had already gone. RIP Gary Wood.
