The Late Brake Show

4 жыл бұрын

Off the popularity of the Honda e EV review, I decided to make the next CarPervert video about my pair of tiny rare classic Honda vehicles - the CZ100 monkey motor bike and my S600 Coupe car. Both are Japanese (obviously), red (also obviously) and both made in 1965 (less obvious). I have a bizarre fascination for any motorcycle that fits inside a car boot and have owned about 7 such bikes in my life. The CZ100 is regarded as one of the godfathers in the minibike world, and even a small ride out of 10-12 miles feels like a mission when you are 6' 3" tall and your tyre pressure is your only suspension.
I have to confess there are a couple of errors in this video. One is my pronunciation of the fuel pump - it is made by Mitsuba, not Mabuchi. Also, the Honda monkey bike historical timeline moves from Z100 to CZ100, then the Z50M before the long-running Z50A. Apologies for these errors. I'm still finding my feet with the self-employed KZbinr thing.
Rest assured there will be more videos featuring both this bike and the coupe when its restoration is finished. In the meantime please enjoy this CarPervert classic video and subscribe to Carpervert for an eclectic mixed bag of automotive treats from today, yesterday and tomorrow.
Huge thanks to my brother Greg at Greg Smith Vintage Cars and also Pete at Project Heaven (www.project-heaven.com).
Thank you for watching.

Quite possibly the greatest KZbin video ever!!! I want that Honda S600. The engineering! The rear suspension! CarPervet has become my favourite KZbin channel. Jonny I have always loved your TV work but it is this car obsessive stuff that makes you ace. No one else is doing it. Its all knobs with supercars who haven't a clue about the heritage (or how to drive), but this, this is ace. Please do lots of classic stuff and talk about the bizarre engineering like on these two epic Honda products. I loved the Honda E vid but this blows it away.

When I was a young apprentice at a very large Ford main dealers they had one of these taken in px, it was in for months because nobody wanted it. We used to race it against things like Imps and Sprites around the garage compound, and nothing could come near it on power or handling. Until someone ran into the back of it and we had to hide it in a distant corner, and not admit knowing anything about how it got damaged.

with a busy life-style, I normally would just skip this sort of video but so glad I didn't. Such a fun little machine. And I love the engineering detail you give - both for this bike and also the cars. And GOOD GOD! - the shine on that grey Jaguar at Project Heaven!!! It's like glass! Beautiful job :) And what an amazing job you're doing with restoring that S600. Much kudos to you for that. Some people don't get it but I love the sense of nostalgia and respect for preserving historic achievements and masterpieces. Thanks for posting this - it's made my Sunday :)

That rear axle in the S600 is crazy. And that engine! I can't wait to hear it rev to 10,000. I love the way some companies came up with really weird engineering solutions to their problems, before the common solution was figured out. I find this in 60s and 70s watches mostly, but I'd love to get an unusual motor vehicle one day. Great video again Jonny. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Looking forward to see a future video on the Honda s600 coupe. My old dad had one back when he used to live in Luanda, Angola and speaks highly of it. He's was a hard top grey if not mistaken and back then they used to come with a mini Honda motor bike and the sales pitch was for when you run out of fuel. The bike would come free with the car when purchased from the Honda dealer. Dad still brags that he's 600 would beat my granddads Alfa romeo on the take off so as you can imagine I'm over the moon to ear that little 600cc purring in your video. Many thanks for the additional educational facts, very rare nowadays!

Always love seeing content on the S600. My dad has a 1964 S600 convertible. He bought it in 1966 just out of high school in California, got it from a Navy guy who had it brought it over from Japan. It was a daily driver for him back then, and also autocrossed and rallied. Held onto it for all this time, we did a basic restoration and cleanup about 10 years ago. I grew up with it, sometimes running, sometimes not. I know many of the specs and info on the car, and its fun to ramble about it to other car enthusiasts that have never seen such a thing. Now it sees some summer fun in here in Washington state, and a couple local car shows each year.

Johnny its so bloody nice to see a presenter (enthusiast) share time on camera with people in a natural way. Pete seems like such a nice guy. Love the skilled natural vlogging approach, the camera guy is great, again natural but I can see the skill. Whilst I think carfection is great too with Mr Catchpole, more glamour and fast strong editing, I really do like this personal enthusiast format. Excellent with a cup of tea to chill. I don't want to knock the other younger car youtubers and they still have their place... but you can see your innate ability and deep interest come out in this video. If this is the shape of things to come, I am very much looking forward to it. Please can we keep the electric stuff though? I still love seeing that sans FC ranting. New and old engineering.

I remember these cars. Two of my teachers at school had these in 1967. The thing I remember most is them ripping in to the school car park every morning. But the best bit was watching two of our younger female teachers getting out in their Mini skirts, yep both owned by newly qualified sixties dolly birds, still makes my best mate and I smile all these years later. Both cars where that colour as well.
