The Late Brake Show

Күн бұрын

Welcome to The Late Brake Show, where in this special episode Jonny drives the world's fastest Aston Martin on the road. With 2800bhp and street legal, this drag car is almost triple the power of an Aston Valkyrie. Mark Todd's monstrous '90s Virage features a 9.3-litre (568 cubic inch) Chevy-based V8 with 118mm single turbocharger, which is enough to clinch 6 second quarter mile passes at over 200mph. He's done this without slick tyres or wheelie bars.
Jonny finds an excuse to borrow Aston Martin's most powerful road car on sale today - the 715bhp twin turbo V12 DBS - and drives it to Cheshire to car swap with Mark. The cars share bonnet badges and a level of construction similarities (MoT'd and taxed for road use, carbonfibre propshaft, carbon bonnet and boot, turbo power, four wheels...) but are completely different weapons.

Not suprisingly seeing as you can put pretty much anything on the road in the UK. This would not be road legal in most countries, including the US :P In e.g. Belgium you aren't even allowed to use non-OEM spec tyres or it will fail the MOT lol
@joescarratt9389
@joescarratt9389 3 жыл бұрын
@@BlatentlyFakeName I don’t know about “anything” as if you change much from “factory replacement or equivalent” (but not wheels or tyres thankfully ) the car then needs an individual vehicle approval test which is very difficult to pass (eg: fail if fog lights lens doesn’t have a tiny “F” on it) but if you’ve got 4 wheels and an engine in the US they’ll let you drive anything lol But banning non OEM tyres is extreme! (What if you want aftermarket wheels that run low profile tyres?)
@BlatentlyFakeName
@BlatentlyFakeName 3 жыл бұрын
@@joescarratt9389 It will fail their annual inspection. In the UK it's much less strict. There is no requirement in the UK to stick within the type approval like there is in much of Europe. It just has to be safe and meet some basic requirements. Which is why this guy can put this monster on the road.

John, please don’t ever change the way you go about cars. The breathe of variety you spoil us with it’s just marvelous. My favorite KZbin content, other than sometimes trying to learn some DIY, is obviously about cars, bikes etc but it needs to tell a story. Either about the car, its owner or both. You do that very very well, on such a relaxed, almost unscripted but deeply immersive way. For last let me just praise the awesome editing and soundtrack choice so in sinc with the events. Thank you Johnny 😎

I am so with Mark on the engineering front, while I used to really enjoy competing in Run What ya Brung, Ten of Best, Scooby Challenge etc with my late, lamented, '98 Impreza Turbo, what I enjoyed, even more, was making it competative and doing all the work myself (over 14 years from brand new stock 208 brake to a lazy 500 of each beast), so much so that I used to spend more time running around the pit areas at events helping out all my mates and other randomers than I did actually competing! Your editing and production values as i said before class leading certainly as far as KZbin goes and beyond. You know little subtleties like speaking about the rain at the drag race and briefly cutting to a car bonnet close up with rain drops on it. It just add something to that piece and other little such subtleties just gives it something. And i love the unhurried way you go about your trade. A masterclass as always. Sorry about the ads, but it is the only way to try and claw back some revenue from the video production.

Genius Jonny, the story of Marks's drag car would have been great on its own, but to bring a DBS and get him to drive it took this video to the next level, plus productions quality (lighting and sound) was top notch. Onwards and upwards buddy!

Thank you Alan. As I might have said on Twitter and Insta I wanted to make this video extra special, hence borrowing the Aston DBS Superleggera.

@@TheLateBrakeShow not special, but differential (not the transmission type) but the separation between you and the YT competition

Another great video Jonny. Have always been a big fan of the Aston Martin. Have loads of books about them. My favourite of Aston of all time is the DBS cos it looks so different to the others. Bu that beast STP 685J is an awesome beast.

Have to admit I laughed when Mark said he rewired the Aston to lower gauge wire to save weight... 👍🏼 What a sight around the drag strip when they race. Seeing lots of these drag cars on the road to prove they are roadworthy...

Credit to you Jonny. The quality of your new stuff is great. As is you and Sniff Petrol sitting in a Land Rover, in the services. Back soon hopefully. Slightly dull question...how much is to insure that beast for road use?

Love the sound of the DBS. I bet that rattles through your body when you put your foot down. That Virage/Vantage racer would be funny to take to the shops to grab milk & bread.

7.8 with treaded tyres??? Ruby from the cleetus mcfarland channel did a 7.8 using slicks with around 1500hp as did leeroy, and they struggle to do that time using slicks. Doing it on street tyres sounds terrifying...
This $400K Aston Martin DBS is outdated yet Incredible!
