You don't need new pads all you have to do is put a shim behind the metel plate behind the pad and your original pads will last a lifetime if you use this simple method.

There is a mistake in this video when it comes to brake pad pressure tension. The 2 caliber hold down bolts should be tight (not used to adjust tension). The center bolt with the nylon nut is the tension bolt to adjust the return spring. The return spring tension should be adjusted with this bolt only.

Also put anti seize on the shaft and threads of the mounting bolts too. You will thank yourself for using anti seize on all of these parts the next time you take it apart. Just a very thin coat is all that is necessary.

How to make the pads last longer. A hose clamp is the right width. Just needs to be cut to length. You can use them as shims to push the pads closer to the Brake Rotor. Just sand the pads smooth where the rotor cut its grove. Place your shims behind the pads. Lot cheaper than $16+ for 2 new pads

@@VansWorld Your most welcome! Another thing I do is... I was a farmer many moons ago. To keep the plow points, and subsoiler feet/ points from wearing to fast. We welded hard surface to the places that would wear. On the lawn mower blades I put a bead along the upper edge to be sharpened, and the upswing on the blade where it wears thin. I sharpened the blade as normal. They last a hole lot longer. There is a company who sells a blade with hard service on the underside of the blade. Just under where you sharpen the blade. But the top of the blade wears, and the upswing wears. It last longer, than a standard blade. But not as long as the way I did it. I guess. They don't want to sell a blade, that would not have to be replaced for a L- O - N - G Time! If you do not own a welder. Take a worn used blade to a welding shop Along with the new blade He will see exactly where it needs the hard surface.

@@VansWorld Saw on another video. The mechanic put a dab of silicone on the brake pad next to the frame to hold it while he put the rotor back on . Also if you clean up the axel. Put never seize lube on the shaft. Mine had not been taken off in a while. Had to beat it off with a sledge hammer and a 2 by 4! One of the bolts snapped off holding the brake assembly on. Had just enough to put vise grips on it. Put never seize on the replacement bolts.

I've got a Craftsman DYS 4500 that I've had about 25+ years now. First time replacing the brake pads today and ran into 2 things. The outer pad is completely gone and the rotor is rusted/seized to the shaft. It push/pulls the entire shaft assembly. I don't access to a torch, so going to try penetrating fluid and a wire brush. I also don't want to use a puller as the rotor is not that thick and am afraid it will bend if excess pressure is applied.

Don't forget the return spring 142431, if it's gone your brakes will keep your mower from moving in neutral (small spring between bracket and bolt head).

Good video... I do wish you would have taken it a bit further and gave some info how to actually adjust the brake linkage, should it need it (ie what to look for/how to know when to adjust it).
