Excellent, finally someone who can actually “teach” and gives you all the information in a quick synopsis. This was exactly what I needed. Everyone told me to take my Troy-bolt to the dump and buy a new one. You saved me $1,000+. You probably do not realize how many people you help…thank you!

Sure am glad to find this! My manual doesn't show how to adjust the brake but says to have a pro do it. I didn't even know where it was at first. The manual did show that at least. Thank you so much! Great explanation on how to do it, too! The foot brake when locked was not holding the machine at all!

Great information. I changed all the belts on my LT3800 today and noticed the park brake quit working while the tractor was running and in gear. It worked fine before I changed the drive belt. I guess the old belt had enough slippage the current brake adjustment held. I made the adjustment based on information from this video and now it works perfectly. Thanks John

I used a propane torch to unseize the pins. Used a roloc to clean up the pins, kind of hard to get something inside the holes but wasted a couple of polishing tips on my dremel in there, clean enough. The anti seize is a good idea, didn't think of that. Especially since I have lost some of the width on the pins from cleaning/pitting, that'll help make up the difference. My pdf doesn't do a good job showing that the pucks go on both sides of the disc, although it looks obvious, wanted to make sure. You can probably put a little dab of anti seize behind the puck and plate to help hold it in place while putting it back on Thanks for your video.

Ive had my 10 year old cub cadet ltx1040 for 3 years and the brakes have always been sketchy. They catch all the way at the floor, but i offered to mow a fellas yard and he had a steep driveway thats 1/4 mile long. Needless to say,i went for a ride. Never been an issiecin my yard, but its pretty flat. I think im gonna take them apart to see whats up with them. I did try to adjust them but they got all grabby and were holding some even without depressing the pedal. Thanks for the troubleshooting and tutorial

I lucked out recently because of a lack of maintenance/adjustment on the rear brakes.I was given a 17.5hp Troy Bilt mower because of the owner assuming the rear differential was locked up.She went out and bought a Huskqvarna with a hydrostatic setup. Ive begun replacing parts on my 15.5hp Troy Bilt mower with parts from this mower & while searching online for possible causes of locked up rear wheels,I commenced to inspecting the rear brakes and sure enough both caliper pins were seized up.I removed, cleaned, inspected & reinstalled everything and no more locked up wheels. One thing Im curious about is why the rear wheels can be manually rotated between one to two revolutions before they lock up if the brakes are seized up?? You'd think they wouldn't move period with this brake issue, but it was the cause of the problem.
