I was one of the first people to lose power me and about 50 others for the simple fact that our power line has been having issues since before the hurricane so we actually ended up losing power at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday morning we didn't get it back for 9 days. I'm glad u guys ended up being okay! I am in north port and it was none stop for 9 hours.

Yeah Ian especially from like 5pm-1am deff had some strong gusts, similar to how irma was where it would be just windy, rainy and then you get a strong gust coming through about every couple mins or so except some of the gusts later on we’re stronger! I remember sitting outside and looking at a tall pine tree we have and I was just waiting for it to come crashing through the lanai but thank god it didn’t !!

@@alexwhite3158 that river was completely empty. Creepy feeling to see that. He sucked all that up and then dropped it hard into the rivers flooding everything. That storm would have took out everything on the alafia if it had hit on Clearwater beach like it was supposed to :(

I'm down here in NE Cape Coral in a little wooden house! Didn't it seem like it went on forever?! I lost power 8 days. Used acouple of oil lamps, flash light and candles. And also my phone light. Jesse, we live in North Fort Myers. I take care of 3 feral cats, that have adapted to life on my property (fenced and they never leave) I caught one and took with us. Other two stayed -- only because they ran. Ian killed a bunch of trees, but thankfully house OK. Two cats left behind? Just fine. Thankful for that. Hope you are all right too. :) edit: Sorry I called you "Annie." My new glasses are coming in this week, didn't notice I screwed that up until you liked the comment and I had to re-read. lol! ;)

As a southwest floridian myself an a meteorology enthusiast for most of my life I found Ian interesting. What you thought were near cat 5 winds there were really not any more than cat 3. The peak winds were confined to a tiny sliver of the western eyewall. Sanibel got near that, probably cat 4 conditions there and you should've seen what happened. It was crazy, highrises completely gutted with floors ripped off from the winds. Some hurricanes have their peak winds over a good portion of the eyewall (like Hurricane Charley in 2004) while others have it over a tiny part of it (like Ian). I've always found that interesting!

My husband does roofing where we are in MI, and we were discussing whoever put that white tarp on the house across the road is a total bad ass! Lol. Seriously, though, glad you guys made it, and are safe. I am pretty sure I would have had a panic attack leading to stroking out. I get scared with certain storms up here at times still, at 43 yrs old! 🤦 Which are just a mild wind and mist in comparison! Thanks for the video!

Ive been through 7 direct hurricane hits in Florida one of them being a category 5. I always stay because my area doesnt get storm surge flooding from the coast. I have a hobby farm and I wont leave my animals alone and my dogs dont travel well. We hunker down. Sometimes it takes a long time before they let you back into the area if you left. I rather be here to immediately deal with whatever happened during the storm and prevent things like looters.

Building codes serving us well here in SWFL! looks like PC missed the cat 4 sustained winds though, those were quite localized in Ian. Those mostly hit the barrier islands, Sanibel namely, and maybe western portions of the Cape Haze peninsula. Highrise hotels ripped apart from winds, was insane!

@tvold9204
@tvold9204 3 ай бұрын
Rotonda might've had some of the strongest winds on the mainland. Your area had proper strucutral damage didn't it? I know nearby Englewood had many buildings and homes destroyed from the winds alone. But Ian's 150 sustained definitely didn't come ashore to the mainland, video from in eyewall, chaser accounts and especially damage was actually not that impressive for a 150mph 'cane. Charley makes Ian his bitch. Look at Punta Gorda after both, Charley was tiny but made up for it in extreme intensity.
