Now this is true teamwork, everyone has their different approach to hurricane survival - Kaiser stays at HQ 'minding' the air con for the whole team, Sniper deploys alongside Mover doing outdoor recon to check the storm progress & ensure the perimeter is secure, and Luna's clearing the yard of potential flying debris that could take out a window! Go Team Mover! 🐾 And so happy to hear all four of you are doing well too 😎👍

Pro tip during a hurricane: put your lawn furniture in the pool. Won't have to worry about it blowing around in high winds.
@CWLemoine3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call that a protip. Securing it is much easier on the back side of the storm than having to fish it out the pool (and possibly damaging the gunite)

Dogs and cats have a sixth sense about impending weather events. In 1989 many hours before Hurricane Hugo made landfall near my home, my cat started staring out the glass door overlooking the marsh. He did not budge from that spot until we left to evacuate.

I think if I lived that far South I'd have to have a whole house generator to keep the AC running. I'm in North Carolina and thinking about adding one here.

"Why are you bringing the sticks in?" LBell: "Well, I'm gonna have to do it later. Might as well get a start." :) That was the most amazing storm to watch over the time it was stalled over there. I kept checking in to see when it moved, to see if it was moving west, or north, or what. And I honestly thought the reporting station maybe lost feed, because it was just STAYING on top of NO. But no. It just stayed with you over there. For 12 hours. So unusual, and what a mess. Hurricanes standardly do their thing and move along, not hang out for 12 hours! That was something.

Mover, it's probably too late but purchase a window AC unit. That generator can power a 10-15 btu window unit and your frig etc. I did that several years ago and have been using them since. Keep your bed room cool at night to sleep.
@LunaBelleLemoine3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I actually tried when I got home from Eglin last week but it was too late (Saturday). I ordered a portable AC that I can move from room to room for the next one (which, if you look at the GFS, might be next week )
@mistergunpilot3 жыл бұрын
@@LunaBelleLemoine if it's one of those ones that you put IN the room you have to have the water hose for the drain and an exhaust hose for the hot air.
@CWLemoine3 жыл бұрын
@@mistergunpilot yup, it comes with it. But what's nice is that I can move it from the bedroom to the living room (window in the bedroom and doggy door in the living room).

@@LunaBelleLemoine I know it's probably too late but if possible get one with the intake and outlet air hoses. They are significantly better at cooling, especially when it's humid.
@bobaround53383 жыл бұрын
I'd opt for a window unit as soon as you can. They just work much better. I've tried in the past to use those portable rigs and they are marginal at best.

I’m based in the Philippines and we go through a few of these every year…it’s a humbling experience to see just what Mother Nature can throw at you. We always have a gen set with extra fuel, candles, rechargeable lights and fans, and a portable AC unit. We are getting our fuse box fitted with an adapter so we can flip the switch and control power to separate aircon units in the house now. They are all inverter units so they don’t draw much on start up.

We rode it out in Metarie, La. Me, my wife (both paramedics) and our two Maltise puppies. we lost about 1/3 of our roof. We are still on genny power (I have a commercial 45kv diesel that can run several houses). Helping our neighbors when we can. Fun fun. Maryland got hit with hurricane Ida. Oops for fear of fat checkers, downgraded to a tropical storm, though I have my doubts. Didn't hit me that bad, but did have to negotiate white water during my walk to work and found out my new boots aren't water proof. We did get hit with multiple tornados, but in the direction of one of them, heard what I call aerial trumpets. Even Ida as a downgraded storm was impressive. Glad all is well.

@@CWLemoine My aunt and uncle live on the east coast of Florida. They got tired of losing power after every hurricane so they bought a generator that runs off of natural gas. Hi Mover, how powerful is your generator. After freeze in Texas, I got 9500watt one and hooked it to the main panel via interlock kit, all in all 1500usd, and it will run all lights, 1 ac and even microwave, way cheaper then 10k for whole house generator!
