One note about the Prestige class: the $10,000 price Vancouver to Toronto is for to people. And the price includes free alcoholic beverages for the entire trip. I am not a drinker but when I traveled Prestige class Toronto to Vancouver, I had a list: Ten cocktails you must try before you die and over the 5 day trip I enjoyed all 10 of them. I think the bar-tending staff had as much fun with the list as I did because on their recommendation we substituted a few of the drinks. Your videos are very enjoyable to watch and I love reading your witty comments. I also love that you say Thank You For the Food after every meal. It is very polite, almost Canadian polite :)

When I rode this train, we had the in-between accomodations: not quite economy, but not really a private room. We were alotted a booth like you might see in a diner, but in the evening the attendants would transform it into a bunk bed. The seats would fold into one bed, and the other came out of the ceiling. I got the top one, it had no window, and a net behind the curtain kept me from falling 2 meters onto the floor. Thankfully I’m not claustrophobic, it was certainly cozy. And even as someone who’s lived on the prairie side of the rockies for most of my life, the Saskatchewan air had me like spongebob in sandy’s tree dome.

Thank you for this video - it brought back many wonderful memories. In 1977 (!) I took this train from Vancouver to Montreal on what was then Canadian National. The train left Monday evening at 8 AM and arrived Montreal on Friday about 11 AM. In Sudbury the train was split into two sections, one for Toronto and the other for Montreal. I had a similar compartment (then called a roomette) and it was a trip of a lifetime. It stopped for 30 minutes in Jasper which was getting the first snowfall of the year (this was in October) and also for 1 hour in Winnipeg. Videos such as this bring back great memories.

SHARON SHNEYER, I'm glad I just discovered your channel. I love all things Canadian (well figure skating, rail passenger trains and wildlife). I'm a former rail and transit activist here in the Southeastern Pennsylvania area in the US. I was grateful several decades ago when I was in my twenties to spend a month in Canada. I took the train from Toronto (my favorite city), to Cochrane, Ontario. It was an overnight trip. I spent a few days in Cochrane where I took the Polar Bear Express from Cochrane to Mossinee, a one day trip which was approximately 2 1/2 hours up each way, and we had 5 hours there. That is where the James Bay starts. There is at least one hotel where you can stay. I am still in awe of Cochrane. I spent a week in Toronto, a few days in Ottawa, and a week in Montreal, where I took a one day bus trip to Quebec where I tried to relive my childhood memories when my parents had taken me there decades early where we spent a couple of days. I don't know if the aforementioned trains still exist, but it was magical!!! I always tell people who are younger than me (I'm 64), that if you're going to do any traveling do it when you are younger, because you never know what will happen once you get older. There are always cheapie ways to do things. ANY SORT of traveling is not possible these days because of both medical and financial situations.

I assure you that it is not just the Japanese who find it awkward having to share a table at meal times!. I think North Americans are better attuned to this but, if you are an uptight Englishman (such as yours truly) it can be a palace of embarrassment, when all I would want is peace and time to watch the world roll by. Incidentally, great that you are showing more of your face these days - it makes your channel more familial and “cosy.” (Dylan, of Dylan’s Travel Reports, took the leap into showing his face a couple of years ago and it makes his content more relatable). Anyway, thanks for a great video!

i’m an american and i was surprised to see they were actually facing each other at a table, i suppose im not very used to trains though! maybe that’s normal here but except a very crowded coffeeshop or something, i’ve never encountered that here 🤔 even when we are forced to do it it is very awkward, at least for me/us in the northeast US, we actually love to keep to ourselves in some areas of the US lol

I’m Canadian, and it is just as awkward for us! Though we try to break that awkwardness with conversation and getting to know people. Never know what interesting people you’ll meet! Though I understand its just nice to have thoughts to yourself and have moments of reflection on trips like these.

Seeing the "Last Spike" photo in the video, capturing the moment the final nail was hammered into the railway, I couldn't help but reflect deeply. The photo, filled with the faces of white men, strikingly lacks the presence of any Chinese individuals. It's a stark reminder of the forgotten sacrifices in our history. Over 600 Chinese laborers are estimated to have lost their lives constructing this railway, yet their contributions seem to be missing from this iconic moment. It's a poignant reminder that history often tells only part of the story, and it's up to us to remember and honor all those who have shaped our past, not just the ones who were captured in the photographs. Canada's railways should consider adding a historical description next to such photos to remind the world to not forget and to be inclusive of all who contributed.

It was quite a fun experience. We got off the train in Rennie, Manitoba close to my grandfather's cottage where we stayed for a week. I can vouch from previous experience with Amtrak Coast Starlight and California Zephyr, the Canadian's rooms are bigger by a fair proportion, they are better designed (and have private toilet in each cabin - VERY useful for 3+ days!) and more well-equipped and the good is better - specially the Dinners.

Only if you like Canadian scenery being a part of the great country. I do not think it is comparable to the same level of experience in Japanese culture when they elevate the whole experience as a national treasure, marketing it to international visitors and providing new trains and luxurious cabins. Same as in the UK where they recreate the whole heritage experience.

Showers are great, but if water is plentiful, a hot tub/Jacuzzi would be fabulous, especially if one could be watching the scenery along with. Being a huge Robeson fan, I'd call it Mount Paul. Magnificent! I wanna ride!!

I have been sold! My next train trip will this one. I live in the USA but this is so very much nicer than my Amtrak transcontinental nightmare. I had to take 2 buses, had to change trains 3 times, and my connection in Chicago was missed by 15 hours so I ended up in a NOT First Class berth as I had paid a large sum of money for, with no refunds made. One train to get to the other side of the continent? With that kind of trip?! Sign me up.

Kuga, This was an enjoyable trip because of your presentation. You did not bore me with insignificant information. Your posting of comments was perfect. I really enjoyed your sense of humor, your thank yous after each meal, and your placing the camera on you which further made me feel that I was actually travelling with you. Many thanks!
