On December 31, 2018, my family and I rode aboard the Chepe Tourist Train to Copper Canyon in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. The sightseeing that it offered was breathtaking!
We took the train to Copper Canyon, which is Mexico's version of the Grand Canyon. Copper Canyon is one of the largest and deepest canyons in the world. Footage also includes spectacular scenes from the canyon's new aerial tramway.
CORRECTION: Around 1 minute and 25 seconds into this video, text scrolls across the screen that states the Chepe Tourist Train travels from Chihuahua to the city of Los Mochis in the state of Sonora. Actually, Los Mochis is in the state of Sinaloa in Mexico.

That was fun, Tom. Beautiful views! Thanks for taking us along on the ride. ...Roy P.S. I could understand your Spanish, but that's because I've been living in Panama almost 29 years.

Hi Michael! Yes, it is a wonderful trip to make. There are many tour packages available with international flights to the city of Chihuahua that pick you up right from the airport and take you to the train. But our vacation trip was more economical, driving from our home in Baja California to Chihuahua and then up the mountains to Creel, where we lodged and caught the train. It was loads of fun! -from Tom Pilling

Hi Tom thanks for sharing your trip , looks like beautiful country to see and even better to see it on a train. Is there another train running in the opposite direction to take you back ?

Great video Tom, I think those where GP38s on point, at one time wasn't the Cepe train steam powered? I thought I watched a video from the early 90s and the train was steam powered, thanks for sharing!

I met Alicia in 2006, who I later married. She comes from the city of Chihuahua and told me about the Chepe train. Before meeting her, I had never heard about the Chepe. I honestly don't know too much about the history of the Chepe before 2006. During my recent ride on it, though, I did observe that the Chepe tracks are undergoing a modification program. Concrete ties are replacing wooden ties. During my trip, I saw piles and piles of discarded wooden ties strewn across the roadbed next to the tracks. -from Tom Pilling
