1:46 good point about the folding bikes lol. I had one as my first ebike. I only folded that thing a handful of times before i gave up on the folding feature, lol 😂 so heavy and awkward to lift, even if it’s only a short distance into a car.

I throttle to get started and sometimes to get across a busy intersection, but mostly pedal.

Besides range anxiety, I'd be anxious crossing those busy intersections

Ordered a double ebike carrier. Installed it on my truck. First night someone stole one of the tire loops. Can’t buy replacement. Got to buy another rack for parts. I then used self tapping screws to make it harder to steal the loops. Some racks have bolts on ends of tubes that loops attach to. Helps prevent loss of the loops. You can put lock on the receiver to make it hard to steal whole rack.

Sad that people have to take things that don’t belong to them!

You can put a pin through the hitch to lock the carrier on the car

Glad you mention the weight of the Ebikes. They are all very heavy. Most are 60 pounds or more. It is not unusual for them to be 80+. I have found a few in the 30-50lb range.

Short of some single speed commuter Ebikes, most are heavy like you mentioned.

@@RussIsRight Many of the lighter Ebikes are made by older bike companies like Trek and Specialized. They do not have fat tires. Often they have batteries integrated into the Dow tube which limits the possibility of a 2nd battery and also limits your range. I prefer to have a 2nd battery, like you in case I go a long distance. The main reason I prefer somewhat lighter Ebikes is for transporting. As I get older I prefer to not lift heavier items. I have also gone to all step thru bikes, because they are easier to get on and off of. I can still swing my leg over a bike with a crossbar, but why? I found out this summer that my wife can not handle a bike with a crossbar. Step thru is the only alternative for her. You tend to cover subject that are important, not just speed. Thanks

Hey Russ, I have a folding bike, but I never folded it up. I think it's awesome that you were a cop, I've always wanted to be a police officer growing up. I have Severe Graves Disease and I smoke weed to help with it and I was allowed to use weed before it was legal, I had special permission. Normally with this disease, if you are born with it, like me, you usually die by the time you are 20. When I was 30, the doctors asked me how I can still be alive and I said when I feel sick, I smoke a joint. In 2017 my doctor was told to tell me that I can die anytime, I said so can you, and she said well yes, but; and didn't say anything else. I have osteoporosis due to the medication from my thyroid problems this is why I broke my back so easily a few yrs ago. I'm on Canada Pension because of my thyroid problems. my nephew was surprised when I told him I thank God everyday for giving me this Blessing of Graves Disease. Speaking of my bad back, I'm ordering a new saddle, a Bike Seat with Back Rest Support Comfortable Wider 11.5"x 9.5", It's a saddle with a backrest. Thanks again for making another fun video to watch 😎

I was never a cop, just a crime lab guy. But yeah, if it helps you, medical marijuana could be useful.

Hey Russ a great ride along video. My first ebike was a foldable Lectric. I always found it awkward to fold it, get it into the tailgate and only did so to get it to a bike shop for service, maybe once to an outer area. Even to get the bike into a 55-gallon tub it's hard work and is preferably a two-person job. I love the MC Jaguarundi, the only foldable bike I'd consider. Ride on Russ!

I’m surprised all folding bikes don’t have folding pedals. I only have the Engwe and it does. I don’t have a rack, I’ve brought it on a few trips. I’ve mostly switched over to EUCs, and I usually bring the small one on trips. It’ll go 22 mph and take me 25-30 miles at that speed, and that’s been fine when I go places. It weighs 30 pounds vs 72 for the big EUC that’ll go 40 mph and 100 miles range. For trips, the smaller one is perfectly adequate, so that’s what I bring. People who want to travel a bunch might want to consider a lighter bike. I do like how the Engwe folds, though. I store it under the stairs in my basement, and it takes way less room that way.

Russ, I suffered a horrible crash- tibial plateau fracture, when the handle bar release latch failed (ebike bought from a local bike shop that did build and set-up.) Suddenly I had no control (like the steering wheel of a car coming off in your hands.) I urge all riders of fold up bikes to make sure that latch is functioning properly (along with the latch locking the frame.) I plan to install a rubber and steel worm gear pipe clamp over the latch as a safety redundancy. I can't wait to get back on my bike with some knee, elbow and hip pads!

I really enjoy these “ride n’ chats”, Russ! By the way, do you pedal often or mostly just throttle? Sometimes I can judge by the movement of the bike that you must be pedaling.😊

Heya Russ! I was riding my bike and got in a verbal confrontation with an irate motorist and I was wondering if you had any advice on a body or helmet cam system, just for my own safety. I'm not looking to do youtube or whatnot, just to have proof of my side of the story for if god forbid I were in an accident or have another altercation. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The only cameras I am familiar with are the GoPro and Insta360 cameras. If it were me, I'd mount a GoPro on my chest mount or put the Insta360 camera on top of my helmet. The 360 records in every direction, so you don't need to point it anywhere. But the processing of that footage takes forever. Easier with a GoPro but it will only face forward. So if you are "talking" to someone and that person is to the side of you, you would never get him on the camera.
